Things must be a little tense at Brown right now. Understandably so.

Brown University students return to campus following the tragic shooting

Brown University students are returning to campus following the tragic shooting in December.

A little more than a month after a deadly shooting on campus, the Ivy League school and the surrounding community.

The support for one another was certainly present on Wednesday.

The memorial is still standing outside the building where it happened.

City leaders released an action letter that outlined the next steps for new safety measures.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said the city hired a third party to take a look at the response along with the investigation, so the city could know what was done well and what could be better.

Brown University also highlighted some changes, as the school announced that there will be more cameras around campus, along with new key card restrictions to access buildings, something the president of Brown was questioned and scrutinized about after the shooting.

The city will also open a resiliency center, where students can receive mental health support, something Smiley hopes will make a huge difference moving forward.

The Providence community is showing they are for the students and they’re embracing them in this time of grief.
