Bill Maher Calls NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani a ‘Straight-up Communist’

Bill Maher unloaded on New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani this weekend, calling him a ‘straight-up communist.’ It was nice of Bill to do this now that the election is over. Thanks for the tip, Captain Obvious.
As evidence, Bill pointed to the outrageous comments of Mamdani’s ‘housing czar,’ Cea Weaver, who has called home ownership a form of white supremacy. Of course, in the process, Bill had to take an unfair swipe at Trump and Republicans as well, but at least he got the Mamdani part right.

Late-night host Bill Maher called New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani a “straight up communist” and warned Democrats that they will “lose more elections” if they try to deny it.
On Friday’s episode of “Real Time,” Maher noted that “Democrats seem to be having this debate” over whether Mamdani is a socialist or a democratic socialist, and offered to end the debate for them once and for all.
“Let me settle it: He’s a straight-up communist,” he declared.
According to Maher, he knows this to be true by “reading between the lines” after one of the mayor’s advisors, Cea Weaver, said to “elect more communists.”
“Which is fine. It’s fine. It’s a belief system. He’s allowed to believe it, and people are allowed to vote for it,” Maher continued. “But if liberals deny it, like he’s just going through a goth phase, they’re going to lose more elections. This is not a communist country.”
The “Real Time” host lamented that when it comes to political ideology, “the pendulum never lands in the middle,” and voters are typically left to choose between two extremes.
“Really, the choices we get here are either the worst version of crony capitalism or communism, either a side deal for the Trump family every time he does business overseas, or the lady who says, ‘Impoverish the white middle class,’” he said. “Oh yeah, there’s a great campaign slogan for you.”

Nobody cares what Maher says.
Like always, he criticizes only long after any election where he supported them.
And also like always, his criticism boils down to, ‘stop making it so obvious the left supports this, stop saying it out loud!’
Maher is a committed far leftist and always will be, his ONLY objections are that they make it harder for leftists to win elections when they actually say what they believe.
I will say this about Maher. He has had people like Ted Cruz on his show and had a reasonable debate between adults. No screaming, name calling or shouting down. He also went to the dinner with Trump and said that if Trump acted as polite in public as he did at that dinner more people would like him. So I never expect him to be on my side but at least he is one of the old style liberals that is willing to be friendly to people he disagrees with.
While I do not doubt that Mamdani is a communist, with ISIS overtones; his effect on elections is not going to be based on what he says but rather a) how well he controls the vote counting in NYC, and b) how badly and publicly he screws up NYC between now and the elections.
