Report: Chicago’s ‘Peacekeeper’ Program Plagued by Member Arrests for Violent Crimes
“CPD also says he was actually one of the robbers and, in a notably unpeaceful twist, twice used phone calls from the police station to try to arrange for people to intimidate the victim and a witness into staying quiet.”
There has been debate in Chicago over the wisdom and effectiveness (or lack thereof) of the Windy City’s so-called “peacekeeper” program for years. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) touted its supposed effectiveness back in April, while critics have noted that some of the former gang members and ex-convicts who are members of the program have gone on to commit more crimes.
Over the last four or so months alone, it would seem that the critics’ point has been strengthened after multiple arrests among some of the members on allegations that they’ve committed violent crimes.
CWBChicago reported on one of the more recent incidents:
Chicago police say Michael Nash admitted he was at the scene of a violent robbery in Woodlawn a couple of weeks ago, but only, he claimed, in his role as a neighborhood “peacekeeper.”
But CPD also says he was actually one of the robbers and, in a notably unpeaceful twist, twice used phone calls from the police station to try to arrange for people to intimidate the victim and a witness into staying quiet.
[…]
Court records show Nash’s felony history includes two years for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon last year, eight years for being a felon in possession of a firearm in 2019, three years for the same offense in 2014, one year for possession of a controlled substance in 2012, three years for attempted robbery in 2008 and three years for possessing a stolen motor vehicle in 2007.
He says he’s just a neighborhood “peacekeeper.”
But CPD says he took part in a violent robbery, threatened to have officers shot, and then used his 2 phone calls from the police station to arrange to try to have people intimidate the victim into silencehttps://t.co/pfxXtnGs6W

Back in late September, another purported “peacekeeper” was arrested over a confrontation with a police officer that turned violent:
A video circulating online this week showing Chicago police arresting two men, including one who took a swing at a cop on camera, has an interesting and increasingly familiar twist: the guy who took the swing identified himself at the scene as one of the city’s “peacekeepers.”
🚨JUST IN: Another one of @GovPritzker “peacekeepers” (Chester Alexander) was just arrested for assaulting Chicago Police Officers.
The “V” on his shirt can’t be for “victory”.

And in one especially high-profile September case that has proved to be embarrassing for Pritzker, a “peacekeeper” who stood alongside him for a picture allegedly took part in a violent crime a few days later that killed a man:
Six days after a photo was taken of Illinois Governor JB Pritzker posing alongside a Peacekeeper, court records claim the man was part of a violent crash-and-grab burglary on Michigan Avenue and a crash that killed a young father, the ABC7 I-Team has learned.
Chicago police said it was a squad of seven who shattered the Magnificent Mile storefront of Louis Vuitton and sped off with hundreds of thousands worth of designer goods on September 11 before one the alleged getaway cars crashed into Mark Arceta’s vehicle, killing the expectant father whose son was born the next day.
Police say a man listed as both Keller and Kellen McMiller was one of the seven fleeing thieves. Court records show McMiller had outstanding arrest warrants in Cook County, Florida, Wisconsin and Indiana.
“Court records reveal an extensive and violent criminal background,” ABC7 Chicago also noted.

Wild story here.
Pritzker hosted an event with a group of his state funded "peacekeepers" who work as part of the "community violence intervention" program.
It turns out one of them had outstanding warrants in four states and committed a homicide in Chicago six days later.… https://t.co/YJXbAeNKGE

Chicago Contrarian, who has been closely tracking the goings on of the “community violence intervention workers,” perhaps said it best here:
McMiller has been charged in connection with a Mag Mile crash-and-grab burglary which left one man dead and Nash is facing a charge of robbery.
Both men were paid Community Violence Intervention (CVI) workers.
CVIs are gang members who are paid by our tax dollars.
CVI is a scam, yet the mayor is proposing a $21 per-employee “Head Tax” to raise revenue to continue funding CVI groups.
Community safety will never be achieved in Chicago until elected leaders abandon faith in CVIs and return the sole responsibility for public order to Chicago Police.
Remember the names Kellen McMiller and Michael Nash the next time @ChicagosMayor laurels "peacekeepers."

A Newsmax story revealed that over $60,000,000 in taxpayer funding had been poured into this program over the last three years. Has it been worth it? I report, you decide.

Johnson and Pritzker don’t care if you live or die. Show them the same courtesy.
Public whipping is needed to keep them in line. Let a representative from the victim’s family do the lashing.
It may come to that…
Civic order, as well as nature, abhors a vacuum.
Using thugs to maintain control on the streets.
This is what despots do to their minions.
Ahem Rampart Division cough
Four words: Hector “Big Weasel” Marroquin.
You just can’t make this s* up.
To think I was once staggered to see a local violent ganglord installed (by the mayor and the cops!) onto a precinct’s “Community Liaison Committee” on Hill Street Blues 40 years ago.
It’s the Chicago Way.
Domestic thugs and foreign illegals as cops.
You owe the people who hire these people absolutely no allegiance.
Chicago, Illinois pays $20 million per year to its violent criminals to supplement their otherwise inconsistent income.

Just another Social Justice money laundering program. How much of that money actually went to the “program”; likely most was siphoned off up stream.
Pritzkee deputized a gang essentially. This should be nationwide news but the media will keep it in their back pocket unless they need to run him down if he goes at their golden (state) boy Newsom.
He’s not the first. This sort of “violence interruptor” program has run in California, NY, Maryland, and other blue states, and (as far as I know) at most one of them has been cancelled for cause.
Looks like the “Peacekeepers” are far more intelligent than the Chicago leadership. Getting paid to prevent crimes and augment their payment with crimes. Pretty smart, working both ends of the system.
Ok. I’ve cut CT and CA loose from the US. Time to cut Illinois loose and Minnesota while we’re at it.
I would love it if Pritzker’s gang bangers robbed him but he probably has too many assault rifle toting guards around him for that to be possible.
No way. Are y’all trying to tell us that just b/c someone says X is ‘good’ it isn’t necessarily true? Gosh that might also hold in cases where claims are made that X is ‘bad’. Maybe, just maybe, we should begin taking what others with an obvious agenda proclaim with a grain of salt until we examine the evidence and come to our own conclusion. I suspect we’d all be better off than following along as if these folks were the pied piper.
