Metropolitan State U. of Denver Rejects Standard American English in the Name of ‘Anti-Racism’
“a social construct that privileges white communities and maintains social and racial hierarchies”
It’s amazing that this is still happening in some places.
National Review reports:
University Writing Center Rejects Standard American English in the Name of ‘Anti-Racism’
Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Writing Center urged educators to abandon Standard American English (SAE), labeling it a form of “Linguistic White Supremacy” in since-deleted materials published under its “Anti-Racist Practices for Your Classroom” guidance on the university’s website.
The writing center even rejected that SAE exists at all, and “fully support[s] students in using their English (whatever that may be) in communicating their thoughts and ideas,” according to a page that has since been removed from its website.
The center’s reasons for rejecting SAE include the assumption that there is a “correct” way to write, the implication that there is a “standard” when the United States does not have a regulating body, that SAE “is a social construct that privileges white communities and maintains social and racial hierarchies,” and that SAE privileges white society over other ethnicities.
MSU Denver told National Review it is aware of the content and that it does not reflect the official policy of the university.
“The University has removed that content and is working with the Writing Center to review it to ensure alignment with the institution’s mission, values and academic best practices,” an MSU Denver spokesperson told NR. “MSU Denver remains committed to rigorous academic standards and preparing all students for success in life and careers.”
The writing center cited compliance with the Conference on College Composition and Communication, which in June 2020 released a statement “DEMAND[ing] Black Linguistic Justice.”
“We demand teachers stop using academic language and standard English as the accepted communicative norm, which reflects White Mainstream English,” the statement reads. “We demand teachers develop and teach Black Linguistic Consciousness that works to decolonize the mind (and/or) language, unlearn white supremacy, and unravel anti-Black linguistic racism!”

And the rejection of SAE was, of course, written in SAE! The stupidity is endless!
Hunh. Only whites use SAE in writing? Sorry all you other skin tones who have been using SAE in your writing; apparently it only for white use.
. “MSU Denver remains committed to rigorous academic standards and preparing all students for success in life and careers.”
If this is the case, why all the emphasis on other “linguistics”? Honestly, if so,done wrote a business letter to me in Ebonics, I would not offer by business services to them. If it’s more important to use your “Black Linguistic Consciousness that works to decolonize the mind (and/or) language, unlearn white supremacy, and unravel anti-Black linguistic racism!”, than to present yourself as most of America does on a daily basis, you are not the client I want. In addition, why are not yellow, red, or brown included in the linguistic curriculum? How racist is that?
The Real Victims
The students. Always the students.
When universities play ideological games, administrators keep their jobs. Professors keep tenure. The institution survives.

But students? They graduate underprepared. They get rejected from grad schools. They struggle in job interviews. They hit professional glass ceilings.
And nobody from MSU Denver’s Writing Center will be there to explain to the employer why their resume has grammatical errors.
Nobody will be there to tell the med school admissions committee that requiring SAE is “white supremacy.”
Students pay the price for administrative virtue signaling. And that’s unconscionable.
Our students deserve better. They deserve education, not indoctrination. Skills, not slogans. Truth, not trendy ideology.

“Like, yeah! I be turned down and (stuff). I was, like, whatta (sex act)?”
And that was a white kid!
This kind of course might be offered at HBCU, but it has no place otherwise. File this away as woke joke with the Babylon Bee, along with AfroChemistry at Rice.
It has no place, period.

How many times does academia have to prove its moral, ethical and intellectual corruption before it is completely shut down?
Close the schools. Fire the staff. Raze the buildings. Plow the land. Plant corn.
“Plant corn.” For ethanol? /ducking
Oh, hell, no 🙂
Corn on the cob. Sweet corn. Corn dogs. Corn flakes. Corn whiskey. Cornbread.

Cornbread be round if it be cooked in the skillet, bro’.
