Border Czar Tom Homan has confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security started investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for marrying her alleged brother to get him a visa.
From what I have seen, no one has conducted a DNA test to prove if they’re related.
As Ed Morrissey pointed out, Power Line has been covering whispers about Omar and her supposed brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, for almost a decade.
The statute of limitations has passed, which means no criminal prosecution:
HOMAN: You know, I just got advised by fraud investigator the other day on that. I asked the question, “Who reviewed the file?” Says there was immigration fraud involved. The statute of limitation became an issue in last four years when this was first brought up, who was president, who run DOJ? So pulling the records, now, pulling the files, and we’re looking at.But this fraud investigator, who I know personally, one of the best fraud investigators in HSI, Homeland Security Investigations, said there’s no doubt he reviewed the file. So I’m running that down this week, matter of fact, and we’ll see.
The next part is interesting because Homan addresses the Somali population, which has become big news lately thanks to the alleged fraud in Minnesota:
REPORTER: It’s tremendous, I mean. And according to the secretary, Christine Noah, DHS, you said nearly 50% of the visas are fraudulent in this community. I mean, that would that would mean that half the Somali refugees are here in some way, illegally. What’s going to happen? Is something that actually going to happen? Are there going to be people stripped of their visas, deported?HOMAN: Absolutely. I mean, those days are over. Thank God President Trump’s in the White House. We’re going to look at all of them. I mean, we’re going to look at the, you know, those here illegally.Of course, we’re going to look at those here under a visa or some sort of, you know, immigration process that are criminals. We’re going to look at the national security threats. But those who came through a process that weren’t properly vetted, didn’t provide documentation, who slipped through the Biden’s week to week processes on giving visas and temporary whether student visas or visitors visa, whatever. We’re going for the whole gamut. President Trump has instructed us go down and we’re going to deep dive all of this, and we’ll hold people accountable. Yes, there are going to be multiple deportations coming, absolutely.
So what would happen to Omar?
Well, if fraud happened, then the U.S. could revoke any status giving Ahmed Nur Said Elmi permission to live here and possibly deportation.
However, Omar received asylum as a child. Her being in the U.S. did not depend on this marriage:
If I’m not mistaken – and I could be wrong- the most comprehensive look at this concluded that she married her brother so that HE could seek permanent resident alien status to remain in the US.She was married to her ex-husband but not in a way officially recognized in the US. She married her bother but never stopped living with her husband. After her brother obtained his status they divorced. Then she married her ex-husband legally in the US.Her crime is immigration fraud for her brother’s benefit.
But there’s something else. Matt Tardio wrote on X:
Omar claims she obtained her citizenship when her father was naturalized in 2000, just months before her 18th birthday, but there is a problem. No record has been found of his naturalization paperwork. In response to a FOIA request for her father’s N-400 paperwork filed by AJ Kern in June of 2023, the National Records Center was unable to locate ANY filings under his name. Can she be denaturalized and deported if this is substantiated?Yes. If fraud was involved in her father’s alleged naturalization, then her citizenship can be on the chopping block.
The investigation will open a can of worms, no doubt.
If I were a legal Somali immigrant, I’d be fuming at those who have ruined everything for the population.
