Details Emerge About Brown, MIT Shooting Suspect Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente
The FBI believes Neves-Valente attended the same university in Portugal as MIT professor Nuno Loureiro.
Authorities identified Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente as the suspect in the Brown University and MIT shootings.
They found him dead on Thursday evening in a New Hampshire storage unit. From NBC News:
[Rhode Island Attorney General Peter] Nerhona said a person who saw a photo of the suspect reached out to authorities with information and “blew this case right open.”
That information led police to a rental car, the suspect’s name and photos of him renting the car, he said. The clothing he was seen wearing in those photos matched the clothing worn by the shooter at Brown, Nerhona said.
The shooting at Brown happened on December 14. Two days later, a man murdered MIT professor Nuno Loureiro at his home.
Why Loureiro?
Well, the FBI believes Neves-Valente attended the same Portuguese university as Loureiro.
The authorities identified Neves-Valente, 48, through tactical gear outside of a storage unit in Salem, New Hampshire.
The Portuguese national “studied at Brown from the fall of 2000 to the spring of 2001 to study physics.”
Authorities believe Neves-Valente’s major had him spend a lot of time in the Barus and Holley Building, where the shooting took place.
Neves-Valente took a leave of absence and withdrew from Brown in 2003.
Fox News reported that “[A] man with the same name was also terminated from a monitor position at the Instituto Superior Tecnico in Portugal in 2000.”
Authorities believe that the man is Neves-Valente.

Things that are puzzling:
1. He switched license plates numerous times but used the real license plates in Providence near the scene of the crime.
2. He disguised his financial transactions except for renting the car and the storage facility in which he used his real name and credit card.
3. He did not flee but holed up in the storage facility.
4. He is conveniently dead and can answer no questions
Too many puzzling things and too many people dead. So tragic and very sad.
Valente had three days (from Monday to Thursday) when he could have theoretically left the storage unit, but he liked it some much he did not want to leave.
#2 is easily explained – most car rental agencies REQUIRE a valid credit card to rent, most won’t even take a debit card, let alone cash or a pre-paid CC.
Didn’t use to be that way.
Local car sales and rental place (AmeriCar – i don’t know if any still exist) got dinged twice on that very issue. They had a bunch of rentals by foreign Asian folks who then proceeded to never return the cars. (Supposedly bunch of them got put on boats and resold overseas.) They then instituted the above policy – for all their foreign Asian customers.
Whereupon the got the bejesus sued out of them for discrimination.
You can’t only institute policies that only address the demographic stealing from you –
you have to pretend everyone else you never had a problem with is also a thief.
a. There are platforms like Turo or Getaround which allow you to rent a car directly from the owners, usually unlocking them via a mobile app.
b. Services like Zipcar provide hourly or daily rentals from dedicated lots often located on college campuses.
c. He could have purchased a used vehicle from a private seller or a “Buy Here, Pay Here” dealership and paid cash
d. He could have rented a cargo van from U-Haul. You can rent most box trucks with cash if you visit a location in person. Require a $100 deposit at the time of pickup,
e. He could have stolen a car.
f. He could have used a stolen credit card.
They also require a valid driver’s license. You have to know an illegal alien to get a bogus one of those.
He’s fluent in Portuguese and near New Bedford — I doubt it would be a problem — unless they thought he was a cop.
5. And there just happens to be a very alert homeless guy. who is watching, takes down the license plate # and tells the authorities.
The fact a homeless guy was living in the basement of one of the campus buildings should be raising alarms left, right and centre!!
This is the most normal thing about the case.
This is the script from the Joe Pesci movie, ‘With Honors’,…are we being played?
a Val Kilmer movie called Real Genius as I recall had a homeless super genius living in a college basement too
It was more common 50 years ago, but this sort of thing often is quasi official. He’s there watching the building, which was valuable before you had remote cameras and HVAC monitoring. You know who he is and that he isn’t dangerous, and do you know how much it costs to call someone in to salt a sidewalk? (Usually 3-4 hours at time and a half for 5 minutes work.)
And it’s valuable for exactly this reason — he noticed something suspicious.
My first reaction when I heard that he died was: how convenient. Kind of the same reaction I had when I heard Epstein hanged himself.
No. He only switched the plate once — from FL to ME.
That’s how they caught him going up to Nashua NH — he should have switched plate again after the Brookline murder.
He knew how to disable the car tracking system but didn’t think about more frequent plate switching to avoid automated plate readers? Doesn’t add up.
AND WHO IS THE SECOND PERSON WHOSE DNA IS ON HIS AMMO???
He speaks Portuguese, if he had cash, he could have gotten anything he wanted in New Bedford, including fake drivers license.
And the cops had to “breach” the storage locker he was in? How do you lock yourself into a storage locker?
Why are the Israelis saying that the Iranians assassinated the MIT professor?
Are the Israelis saying that? Which Israelis are saying it? All I know of are unconfirmed rumors that unnamed Israeli officials were wondering about Iran involvement, not that they were positively claiming it. And those reports also incorrectly claimed the professor was an outspoken supporter of Israel, so they have to be regarded skeptically.
Two former Lisboetas dead, stemming from a killing in Maura Healey’s Massachusetts. Everyone involved should have his handwriting compared to the JonBenet ransom note. This wide ranging conspiracy recognizes no gender, sexual or country barriers.
OK here’s my theory. The perp was jealous of Loureiro. He was a major success while he was likely a failure, While at Brown he knew the teacher of the class. Maybe he had a crush on her.
Fast forward to 2025 and his life sucked so he acted out, He killed the professor, He went to kill the teacher but she was absent so he unloaded his handgun out of rage (I could have the order wrong). Those students shot were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The key question I have is what is the relationship between the class and the killed.
That’s what it looks like to me as well. Revenge was the motivation. These executions were well planned – the shooter didn’t suddenly snap and go berserk.
I largely agree. I think he was familiar with the building at Brown, and that class of kids was a case of wrong place wrong time as you note.
I’ve mentioned a couple of places I’m starting to think the Brown University administration/cops dithering over the investigation was because they started crapping stones when they realized the young woman killed was the VP of the Campus Republicans, and their emails and Slack channels are full of threats against her. Had to get all that scrubbed before they started looking for suspects.
Intellectual theft is commonplace in science and it’s even worse outside of the US where we tend to criticize it heavily. It’s possible…but I have no evidence. Considering both attended the same university in Portugal, it makes me wonder.
It’s also quite possible he was delusional and lived in a self-created fantasy that his work was stolen by the victim in Mass.
20 years is a long time to hold a grudge to the point of murder.
Love triangle for $1000, Alex.
twenty plus years is a long time to wait–most of the people present in the study group classroom were not even alive when he left brown
why them?–why now?–the professor murdered in his home was (purportedly) a fellow classmate in portugal with a known relationship to the shooter but the others? and, most confounding, the near total absence of eye witness accounts from those present in the brown classroom–deliberately suppressed?
That’s a long time for hatred to fester if that’s the case.
Evidently they didn’t take witness statements form the students.
wouldnt be surprised if the pd puts the bullet in him and says its suicide
these woke fks dont want the trials especially if theres even a chance the shooters ( likely) agenda was his left wingism
they have called homicides suicides as we have seen and nothing is beyond possibility when a left is in charge as we see them censor differing opinions
He studied at Brown 25 years ago which is why he shot a student who was a fetus when he was enrolled seven times in the face before leaving to go after his real target? On a Saturday afternoon?
Pardon my skepticism.
It would be more appropriate to wonder why people are not more skeptical. They are the ones who need to be pardoned
I saw one person suggest the videos of him walking around look like somebody searching for a person. He may have had a target in mind but couldn’t find them, and then just looked for a target of opportunity in a building he was familiar with.
I guess it is possible that he knew he wanted to shoot the young lady (just spitballing, I read he was here on some sort of green card and might have overstayed his visa so maybe he was mad Trump’s policies might get him deported) and was just trying to figure out where she was. That seems to indicate he had a lot of information about her class schedule as well as meeting times for class sessions (remember that this was a review session, not a regular class session) but if he knew that why didn’t he just go directly to the room and start blasting?
WAS she shot seven times in the face? I haven’t heard that and it changes things.
credit the murder for one thing:
he proved there is no housing shortage>>affordability issues
correction:
murderer
Here we go again. Everyone trying to assign meaning to a nutcase whom a sane society would have institutionalized years ago.
agree
and thats why
b/c the left wont allow proper handling of criminals/mental cases so it actually allows for more speculation
In Portugal.
reporter asked / stated
you ( the police etc) are applauding the help from the citizens but at the same time you were telling social media to be quiet ( my words) about opinions etc….what about that?
they appeared to blow that off which is scary b/c we already have witnessed what the msm here ( uk etc) are doing to other pov/opinions that dont jibe with the lefts narratives
Like Watergate when that happened, I don’t understand why any of this is in the news, beyond the school shooting template,
I wonder if the cameras were actually on and Brown University is embarrassed by the cowardly acts of their police?
Christina Paxson Brown U Pres $3,177,590
Brett Smiley Providence Mayor ~$157,206
Oscar Perez Police Chief ~$137,896
Peter Neronh RI Attorney General ~$146,107
Dan McKee RI Governor ~$163,295

Conclusion: The person who knows the least gets paid the most.
regarding the cameras or lack of them…cough cough
Noel and Thomas were accused of falling asleep and surfing the internet that night rather than checking on Epstein every 30 minutes.
Both admitted to having “willfully and knowingly” falsified records to make it seem they were monitoring Epstein properly.
admitted to having “willfully and knowingly” falsified records to make it seem they were monitoring Epstein properly.
admitted to having “willfully and knowingly” falsified records to make it seem they were monitoring Epstein properly.
and as we know:
U.S. prosecutors decided to end their criminal case against two Manhattan jail guards who admitted to falsifying records on the night Jeffrey Epstein killed himself on their watch.
This was well thought out and planned so I don’t believe the classroom was a target of opportunity because the teacher wasn’t there. If he had waited 20 plus years to do this then he would have waited to make sure his target was in there and not just spray and pray the class.
Some people who fail at a major let it knock them off their rocker. When I was in college, the head of the physics department had failed at electrical engineering — and had a chip on his shoulder against electrical engineering students. He told one of my classmates the classmate had NO chance of graduating, and threatened to fail us if we used some of the quicker techniques we’d learned.
Maybe this guy just let his failure seethe until he broke, deciding to kill at the place of his failure AND to kill a former classmate who succeeded where he failed.
OK — WHO IS THE SECOND PERSON WHOSE DNA IS ON HIS AMMO???
