As Ben noted yesterday, authorities released the person of interest in the Brown University shooting that killed two people and injured nine others.
Attorney General Peter Neronha announced “lab tests on evidence linked to the detained man ‘came back negative,’ and that the evidence ‘now points in a different direction.'”
Authorities have asked the public to come forward with any information.
“As Providence police continue to lead this investigation, they have informed Brown that they are continuing their search efforts, which includes ongoing coordination with multiple agencies,” the school said in a statement. “There continues to be a heightened amount of local, state and federal police activity in the area as law enforcement continues to investigate and patrol with increased vigilance.”
Brown urged students and staff to remain vigilant.
“We continue to make every effort to ensure the safety and security of the campus,” said the school in its latest announcement. “We are also advising every member of the Brown community to be vigilant in their own activities on campus.”
