Trump Tells Pentagon to Prepare For ‘Action’ if Nigeria Fails to End Massacre of Christians

President Donald Trump on Saturday ordered the Department of War to map out a possible military ‘action” against Nigeria if the African nation fails to stop the ongoing massacre of Christians.

President Trump also threatened to end all aid and financial support going to Nigeria, a country heavily dependent on U.S. assistance.

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” President Trump posted on Truth Social. “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians!”

Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, confirmed that his department was “preparing for action.”

“Either the Nigerian Government protects Christians, or we will kill the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Secretary Hegseth said, responding to the White House tweet.

Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa with a population of around 236 million, is nearly 54% Muslim. Christians make up about 47% of the population. In the late 1990s, Nigerian Christians began facing persecution after almost a dozen Muslim majority provinces declared Sharia rule.

The persecution turned into genocide in 2009 when the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram declared jihad and launched a murderous campaign against the Christians in Nigeria. According to the Christian watchdog Open Doors, “More believers are killed for their faith in Nigeria than anywhere else in the world.”

“The attacks are shockingly brutal. Many believers are killed, particularly men, while women are often kidnapped and targeted for sexual violence,” the group says.

Fox News noted the growing persecution of Christians in Nigeria

The situation for Christians in Nigeria has reached an alarming level. Entire villages have been burned to the ground, worshipers killed during Sunday services, and thousands displaced by Islamist groups sweeping through the country’s northern and central regions. In June, militants attacked the village of a bishop, just days after he testified before Congress about Christian persecution, leaving more than twenty people dead. Similar assaults in Plateau and Benue states have killed hundreds this year alone, with survivors describing how gunmen shouted, “Allahu Akbar” as they torched churches and homes.

President Trump’s warning comes as Christians face increased persecution all across Africa. Last week, Arab-Islamist militias stormed a province in southern Sudan, unleashing a massacre of Christians. In one instance, hundreds of women and children were reported killed in cold blood as gunmen attacked a maternity ward.
