Trump: SNAP Benefits Will Go Out ‘When the Radical Left Democrats Open Up Government’

Trump pointed out the Democrats could “easily” open the government.

The battle over SNAP benefits continues after President Donald Trump said none will be issued until the government reopens.

Trump wrote on Truth Social:

SNAP BENEFITS, which increased by Billions and Billions of Dollars (MANY FOLD!) during Crooked Joe Biden’s disastrous term in office (Due to the fact that they were haphazardly “handed” to anyone for the asking, as opposed to just those in need, which is the purpose of SNAP!), will be given only when the Radical Left Democrats open up government, which they can easily do, and not before! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT

This complicates things a bit.

The announcement comes a day after the Agriculture Department (USDA) told US District Judge John McConnell in Rhode Island that it would partially fund SNAP benefits.

Last week, McConnell and US District Judge Indira Talwani in Boston ordered the Trump administration to use contingency funds to cover SNAP benefits.

Over the weekend, USDA Sec. Brooke Rollins revealed the massive corruption within SNAP:

  • 40% increase under the Biden administration
  • Thousands and thousands of illegal use of SNAP
  • Arrested 118 pople
  • 5000 dead people receiving SNAP
  • Illegal aliens in SNAP

Dunno. This lets Democrats turn the shutdown back on him.
Better alternative would have been to push all the reserve money out the door (covering only about half the upcoming liability), then say, “It’s all gone, Yezonnas, what’cha gonna do now?”

would be a great time to eliminate the fraud as much as possible from this program and have the recipients prove ( with their voter ids no less 🙂 that they are deserving of this program

never let a crisis go to waste

Great Maker, on the one hand the Trump administration told US District Judge John McConnell in Rhode Island they would partially fund the SNAP program from the contingency funds and now apparently has gone back on that and won’t fund SNAP until the government is re-opened. It’s almost as if Trump wants to force the Judge to order him to fund the SNAP program so he won’t have to take the blame for doing so. Just wish Donnie could make a decision and stick with it. Either fund SNAP or don’t fund SNAP. But make a fecking decision about it and then have the balls to stick to that decision.

I’m shocked! Just shocked to find out that there is massive fraud in a government sponsored program,

No, not really. There isn’t a federal government program in existence that isn’t riddled with waste and fraud. It’s just that most of the time the federal government just turns a blind eye to it all as if it doesn’t exist. Until someone points it out. Then the howls of outrage are deafening. But that is all that happens. Howls of outrage. Nothing is ever done to eliminate the fraud and waste in government programs. But there you go and here we are.

The judges’ orders are unconstitutional. So, President Trump is rightfully withholding SNAP money.

So why would PRESIDENT Trump empty the contingency fund on Dem tantrum whims the way the Biden autopen depleted the NPR to artificially hold down fuel prices during the Biden inflation?

How would they replenish the fund?

That was a very stupid statement by Trump. I am not denying the major problem of SNAP benefits being abused (not only re: being given to illegal immigrants) but they are not just haphazardly handed out to anyone who asks for them. Yes it is true that some purchases made with SNAP rightly raise eyebrows and give a good argument for major reforms. That reform is long overdue. But in the meanwhile if certain “foods” are allowed people are free to make the poor choice of selecting them.

SNAP benefits are used by many elderly and the working poor who have families to support and feed. A lot of these people do use SNAP benefits to supplement their food budgets and do make sensible food choices.

BY all means Trump should keep reminding people that the shutdown is dragging on because of Democrats. But he has already lost one battle in the war of public opinion because of tax credits on Obamacare ending. That is unfair and he is really not to blame for that mess. But people being suddenly bitten in the ass by reality need someone to blame and Trump is that man right now.

Refusing to even partially release SNAP funds plays right into the Democrats claim that Trump is only for the rich. I don’t know who advised the president (if anyone) to make this statement but they are no friend of his. I am not sure if Trump can start a selective release of SNAP or if the states would have to do that (for example release a percentage of the usual benefit amount to those over 65 who a currently on them) but that would be a smarter move than what just happened.

PS. Trump does need to make clear just what the contingency fund for SNAP benefits is and what using it means in terms of future real emergencies such as a major natural disaster.

This is a real question, can Congress pass legislation requiring the Department of Agriculture to release the SNAP funds? Or does that release require a court order? Whether that order is legit is another matter.
