Trump Rescues Mamdani When Asked if President is a Fascist: ‘You Can Just Say Yes’

“It’s easier than explaining. I don’t mind.”

President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani held a press conference in the Oval Office after their meeting.

The best part? When a reporter asked Mamdani to clarify his remarks that Trump is a fascist.

Mamdani was about to answer the question when Trump interrupted him.

“That’s okay, you can just say yes,” Trump said. “It’s easier. It’s easier than explaining. I don’t mind.”

Trump said he had a good meeting with the socialist mayor-elect.

Unfortunately, it came across as too buddy buddy for me. Maybe Trump is playing 4D chess or whatever it’s called today….trying to appear weak and caving but deep down is against it all.

Mamdani is not rational. Trump should not be rooting for him.

c+ for trump

b+ for mamdani

A++ for jacqi henrich >>reporter and a few others

I don’t want to live in interesting times. I’m over that.

Favorite academic Marxist praises Mamdani as the new philosophical, pragmatic and rhetorical hero for the left. Worth listening to for a while to get the hang of the other side in a calm presentation.

Trump may see it in somewhat the same way, something to intrude on and use for his own policies. Answering the question what Mamdani’s doing in the White House.

Trump shouldn’t be hoping NYC fails. Nobody should. Who was hoping the US would fail just because Obama had been elected? I should hope nobody here wanted that. We can recognize that someone is likely to fail, or to wreck the joint, without hoping that actually happens.

I don’t know if it’s so much a wanting New York to fail as a deep expectation that there’s no other possible outcome. Socialism always fails, and it fails a lot harder when you don’t have other people’s money to prop you up. Dude is literally driving his tax base out of the city before he even takes office.

When 0bama was elected no one on our side was hoping the US would fail. Along with Rush Limbaugh, we all hoped 0bama would fail.

Trump’s “just say yes” comment showed who is the bigger man. Having received permission to get out of an embarrassing situation made Mamdani look small for needing the assistance.

Trump is just helping Mamdani gain power within the Democrat party, encouraging commies to primary moderates, and knowing that most of the country is opposed to socialism/communism.

Trump may be killing Mamdani with kindness. I’ll bet a lot of DSA types are standing around totally confused and muttering, “WTF just happened?”

Or it could turn out like the 1917 “sealed train” to Russia.

That is an enemy we’re going to have to fight one way or the other. Probably better to do it sooner rather than later. We don’t want to wear ourselves out on the people that might actually be reasonable without the communists pushing them ever more left

I don’t think Mamdani is a Communist or a Jihadist either. He just plays one on TV.

He is a grifter. A scam artist. His goal is to seek higher office, not to be mayor of NY. Gracie Mansion is a stepping stone.

I think Trump played this beautifully.

First of all, CNN, MSNBC and their ilk never report positive news about Trump. However, they have to report this meeting, because Mamdani is their guy. So lots of people will see a different side of Trump for the first time when he told Mamdani to “just say yes.” What fascist would ever say that? Trump’s humor and apparent kindness may completely blow their ‘Trump is worse than Hitler’ messaging out of the water.

Second, Trump talked about working with Mamdani to improve affordability. That speaks volumes to the middle class that Trump really is focusing on improving the economy for Americans.

Finally, this reduces the power of people like AOC and Pelosi who push for total resistance. Mamdani reached out for the meeting, which undercuts their strategy of Trump dehumanization. Are they going to cancel Mamdani? Not likely. So this opens up the potential to create a divide in the resistance movement. AOC did not sound thrilled when asked about the meeting.

We will see what happens over the next few days, but this has the potential to create a strategic shift in the political landscape. It probably depends on how long it takes the Left to force Mamdani to recant.

I strongly agree. Trump controlled the situation, neutralized some components of the left and put the focus on “affordability”, the area the left will try hardest to undercut him. Not sure if Mamdani was was there out of desperation, naivety, or whatever. It so many ways it was a blow to the left.

There’s a good deal of overlap between center/right populists and the center/left populists…at least in the identification of the major issues if not the actual solutions to use to fix them. Both groups are equally reviled by the DC uniparty and the political/financial establishment aka the ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’. Reaching out to Mamdani is smart politics

Trump is extending a hand to the latest ‘darling’ of the left (even if far left not center/left) because he’s the ‘it thing right now on the left. Mamdani comes from outside the mainstream of the d/prog nationally (at least what they admit to in public). He won the Mayoral contest with a majority not a plurality despite his (to us) Cray Cray policies and history. This dude is gonna be sworn in and govern NYC for four years, maybe more. NYC is Trump’s town and I’m sure that plays a role as well. It’s in both their political interests to minimize friction and create a tolerable and pragmatic if not joyous working relationship to find agreement where they can.

DJT showed his incredibly charming side. Clearly DJT 2.0 is much more confident and sure than in his first term. I hope that the orangemanbad crowd saw this and appreciated DJT. Nevertheless, it is hard to not come away with the feeling the Mr. Mamdani left with the measurements of the oval office drapes. Being in the Oval office can only stoke his already high ambitions,

Trump is a pragmatist before all else. That’s why he’s pushing Israel not to return to full blown war against Hamas even after they’ve repeatedly violated the terms of the cease fire.

That’s why he’s pushing Ukraine to accept a peace deal with Russia that gives up territory that Russia doesn’t even occupy.

He believes that absence of fighting = peace and he wants his legacy to be that he ended all these conflicts; so he’s willing to demand Israel compromise its security and Ukraine surrender its land to achieve it.

His meeting with Mamdami is the same thing. He’s being pragmatic. Mamdami was elected and it’s more expedient to deal with him than fight him, so he’s going to deal with him, even if that means he has to pretend they’re friends and ignore the Jihadist elephant in the room.

I’m not anti-Trump, I think he’s done a great job in many ways, but his insistence on capitulating to monsters in the name of pragmatism isn’t one of them.
