The deal lowers the cost of Wegovy from $1,350 a month to $250 a month. Zepbound will reduce from $1,08 a month to $346.

This is excellent news. Ozempic has helped me go from 220 lbs to 155 lbs. I only have to lose 20 more pounds to hit my healthy goal weight! Stupid perimenopause and old age. For some of us, especially as we get older, diet and exercise are not enough.

GLP-1 oral pills under review for weight loss will start at $149 a month.
It does not apply to Rybelsus, the only pill approved by the FDA.
The injectable drugs like Wegovy and Ozempic will also be lower in price under Medicare Part D, Medicaid, and self-pay channels:
For self-pay patients, Lilly said it will offer Zepbound starting at $299 for the lowest dose and up to $449 for higher doses – roughly $50 below current direct-to-patient prices and comparable to prices in Europe through the company’s digital pharmacy platform, LillyDirect. Orforglipron, Lilly’s once-daily oral obesity pill that is still awaiting federal approval, will also start at $149 for the lowest dose. Medicare beneficiaries will pay no more than $50 per month for Zepbound and Orforglipron.
Additional drugs, including Emgality, Trulicity and Mounjaro, will be added to LillyDirect at 50% to 60% off current list prices.
The Hill reported that Medicare cannot cover obesity medications. It “can cover GLP-1s indicated for heart conditions.”

Do not be ashamed or fearful to speak to your doctor. I was at my wits end after a year of diet and exercise and seeing it not working after it did for so long.
A good doctor will run full blood panels to rule out any underlying issues, encourage questions, and demand you keep them updated on your progress and notify them about any side effects.
A good doctor will determine if any of the drugs are right for you. If so, a good doctor will start you off at the lowest dose and work your way up while reminding you that you need a balanced diet and exercise.
It took me a year and a half to lose 65 lbs (granted 8 months of that was a stoppage of exercise due to shoulder pain and surgery) but still. My doctor made me go slow, which is the right way.

Comments
thanks for the article as I was reading it on another site and getting angry there and commenting there
now I can do it here
no need to force them
just go to a flat tax no write offs no exceptions and the market will then be in charge
Well hang on. If you want a ‘free market’ then we’d also end any restrictions on the reimportation of pharmaceuticals to the USA. So we.could simply avoid the usually far higher US price by making the purchase from another Nation which had a cheaper price. Pretty sure the Pharmaceutical companies would raise hell in opposition to that free market proposal.
of course theyd raise hell and our free market would say
tough pill to swallow
deal with it
Cool with me and even more so for a realistic flat tax. Set it at 18% I would advocate for a single standard exemption = to a full-time job at federal minimum wage. So for last year it would be 2k hours x $7.25= $14,500. Limit that per wage earner up to amount of wages actually earned or the limit whichever is less. No joint filing. No other exemption, no deduction (not even charity) absolutely no refundable tax credits. Elocute Social.security taxes and Medicare taxes. Bring both programs on budget. Same 18% rate for all income; wages or passive. Same 18% for capital gains. Eliminate estate tax and replace with an inheritance exemption of $3 million with amounts above taxed at 18% rate.
Unfortunately there’s gonna be way too much pushback from all sorts of constituencies who benefit from the current Byzantine tax code. End the home mortgage interest deduction the EITC, child care tax credit, dependant deductions…all those things and more have very influential lobbies who will fight tooth and nail to keep ‘their’ favorite tax credit/deduction/exemption.
in how many years and under which admin will these same companies then be sued for all the side affects of the drugs and their “failure to warn” ( pol talk for just gives us the money) the people!!???
its either maga or bust
These *aren’t* new.
Zepbound and Ozempic are the 3rd generation of these types of drugs.
Also, they’re a godsend for diabetics. Obesity is one of the worst things for one’s health, and “diet and excercise”, while always the thing you should try first, DO NOT ALWAYS WORK FOR EVERYONE.
These drugs are also showing a great deal of promise for other conditions, like the cardiovascular issues mentioned above.
But by all means, whine about this.
I am diabetic, type ii. I switched from Ozempic to Mounjaro about 3 months back and the weight is coming off steadily.
Note to Paula: I’m still a bear, but no longer looking so much like I am ready for hibernation season/
They say daylight savings screws up your metabolism.
My not-o-radical idea is move the clocks forward 30 minutes from standard time. Then leave it that way.
This is not as off-kilter as it sounds. Newfoundland is on a 30-minute time zone, and countries in the middle east and some other places are as well.
Not to mention the hibernation.
Why mess with the time at all? Go back to standard time and stay there. The idea that “daylight savings” actually saves anything was never particularly strong, and in the age of A/C it’s just flat out not true. So why not just stick with the natural time of wherever we are?
OK, we can’t literally do that. Railroad time makes sense, for the same reasons it made sense 100 years ago. We have to be able to coordinate with people in other places, so we can’t have every town and village be its own time zone, a few minutes off from its nearest neighbors, as we did before the railroad age. But stick with that, there’s no need for any further changes.
That sounds good to me.
Your proposal for replacement of daylight savings time sounds good.
just b/c they are a godsend doesnt mean enslavement yet to another degree is worthy
of the action
costs riseeee big time with each gov involvement to “help”
it might no seem so to the average minded when at the checkout counter..but it matters
think hillary clinton and the flu meds in the 1990s as one of thousands of examples
There is an odd strain of thought that holds being overweight as a moral failing, and any assistance in correcting it to be tantamount to sin. I don’t get it; we wouldn’t condemn a smoker who chews gum to help him quit.
But a drug that ACTUALLY HELPS PEOPLE LOSE WEIGHT!!! That’s the debbul’s work!
???
its the forcing others to pay for your person needs/issues
you wouldnt pay your neighbor ( hopefully) if they said…hey my daughter is pregnant and you must give me $40 everytime I say so
you wouldnt like if someone yelled at you
heyyyy you cant eat that b/c I have to pay for your healthcare out of my paycheck
Losing weight reduces healthcare costs thereby reducing the burden on taxpayer.
GLPs will save everyone money in the long run.
No these drugs are going to cause many problems for
Many people and must be taken for a lifetime or you put the weight back on
A lifetime of me paying for your drug habit is NOT OK
This drug is dangerous and your weight is NOT my problem
Shut your mouth or drink water
That’s great Mary, so many pounds lost. Slow and steady is the way. Good to hear the cost is coming down. Also they’re good for the diabetics as they are not just for weight loss.
I second that, Congrats Mary,
When CEOs were told they need to lower their prices, one of them passed out.
Low blood sugar probably.
you mean sh ot by lefty thugg
Great, Now do Eliquis, Thank you.
Yes
Let’s do more life saving drugs like cancer treatments and other cardiovascular drugs.
These are dangerous drugs
Very serious side effects, I am overweight, but it can be done effectively with weight watchers
Points.
My sis there lost 55 lbs sticking to the points, it really wasn’t that hard once you put your mind to it
Go to the meetings , weigh in amd get support
The fact that weight watchers secumed to pressure and now has a division with these drugs is terrible
WW points is great. Actually the first key is faithfully recording everything you stuff in your pie hole. You’d be amazed how it adds up quickly.
Yep. Gotta know how many calories you consume to know how many calories you gotta burn off just to stay even, much less enter a caloric deficit necessary to lose weight. For 95% of folks weight gain is a function of bad habits, bad diet and little to no discipline to exercise enough. For the remaining 5% or less with genuine issues/obstacles to weight loss I suspect these meds are a godsend.
Finally!!
Novo Nordisk will provide widely-used insulin products, including NovoLog and Tresiba, at $35 per month of supply.
Cynical hat for a moment. First the Trump WH did a deal to make IVF more affordable now it’s obesity meds. Is this a backdoor to reach the female vote? Particularly the age 33+ college educated female voters who skew way, way left as a demographic cohort?
no cynicism involved
its more politics less maga
Over a lifetime, period products in the U.S. cost a total of around $6,000 per person, according to research published in 2021 — and that’s before tax.
So thats $75/year ( live to be 80 yrs old)
Over the last four decades, states with sales tax have been enacting laws that eliminate such taxes on menstrual products. Minnesota was the first to do so in 1981, and 23 others have followed suit, along with Washington, D.C.
Texas was the most recent: Since September, there has been no state sales tax on period products there. In Kentucky, two bills that would waive its tampon tax — one Republican-sponsored and the other Democrat-sponsored — were introduced last week.

I don’t think there is an obesity drug that is safe and fit for anyone to take.
yes, some work.
What is the price, in health.
There is always a down-side.
Some may not outweigh their usefulness…
But, as far as I can tell, every one of them has problems.
The headline and article claim that a “deal” was struck, but have zero explanation what the give-and-take was. A news article should not require the reader to go hunting for the basic facts. What did I find?
Socialism. There’s no deal. It was just Trump threatening to f!@# over the manufacturers and patent holders unless they submit to him.
