Two major cities have Democratic Socialists for mayor. Lovely.
Katie Wilson will be the next mayor of Seattle after incumbent Bruce Harrell conceded on Thursday.
Wilson is not a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, but wanted their endorsement. She told them there’s a “‘significant overlap’ between her views and DSA.”
Wilson also once said she’s “fine with being called a socialist.”
In fact, Seattle ousted all the incumbents in favor of far-leftists: the mayor, the city council president, and the city attorney.
Well, Wilson wants everything to be free! How will she pay for it? A progressive tax, of course.

These progressive taxes are insane. Careful, Seattle. Wilson might tax your breathing soon:
A vacancy tax will incentivize property owners to rent their property for residential or commercial use, instead of holding it empty as a speculative investment — and it can raise funds to support small businesses and affordable homeownership.
An excise tax on professional services can generate significant revenue while correcting for a loophole in our sales tax, which exempts many of these services. Currently, if you hire a plumber you pay sales tax, but if you hire a lawyer you don’t.
A local estate tax can layer on top of our progressive state estate tax to generate local revenue.
A digital advertising tax can generate funds from the social media companies that monetize our attention all day, every day, with detrimental effects on mental health. There are a number of ways to design such a tax, and we can look at existing models to craft something that works for Seattle.
Wilson runs the nonprofit Transit Riders Union. Before that, she worked “as a barista, boatyard worker, apartment manager, lab technician, baker, construction worker and legal assistant.”
Also, Wilson’s a nepo baby whose parents are professors in New York, even though she’s 43. They send her regular checks.

I took the boat over from Sequim yesterday for a pre-op appt. Lots of folks look like that over there. I swear sometimes liberalism could be cured with endocrine/hormonal therapy. That hollow-eyed Lurch-look is telling.
Everyone we talked to at the drs office commutes from the ‘burbs – most from the east side of Lk Washington. Several expressed fear of living downtown and using public transportation. It’s unrecognizable from when I was a kid – so many signs, strange lane markings, jay-walking weirdos. Always glad to board the boat for home.

Whenever we get all incredulous that there are people so stupid that they would actually seek to buy fentanyl and take it for kicks, we should take care never to forget what absolute dumpster fires get elected by these people, and what that means about how many of them there actually are.
