Rep. Elise Stefanik Running for New York Governor

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) has thrown her hat into the 2026 New York governor’s race.

“Kathy Hochul is the Worst Governor in America,” Stefanik wrote on X.

Stefanik highlighted the catastrophes that have occurred not only under Hochul but also over the years under Democrat control.

Stefanik added on X: “Under her failed leadership, New York is the most unaffordable state in the nation with the highest taxes, highest energy, utilities, rent, and grocery bills. When New Yorkers were looking for leadership from our Governor, she bent the knee to the raging Defund the Police, Tax Hiking Communist causing catastrophe for New York families.”

Stefanik jumped into her accomplishments about halfway through the video, reminding viewers that she took on university presidents who brushed aside antisemitism on campuses and battled “woke insanity” in schools.

Stefanik would be the first Republican governor in the Empire State in 20 years.

According to The New York Post, Stefanik’s team includes “New York-native strategists and staff in key regions — as polls have started showing her neck and neck against the Democratic incumbent in a hypothetical showdown.”

Sorry, but the claims raised my eyebrows, so I had to check them out—it’s hard to top Hawaii and California. The latest rankings place New York at #45 in affordability. California is by far the worst.

Hawaii edges out New York in terms of tax rates.

Hawaii and California have the highest rent, with New York coming in fourth.

When it comes to energy rates, Hawaii and California take the cake.

It shouldn’t surprise that Hawaii and Alaska have the highest grocery bills. I’m actually not seeing New York in the top five. According to this map, Oklahoma has higher grocery prices.
