Gov. Wes Moore Creates Maryland Redistricting Commission
Moore is going forward despite state Democrats backing away from the idea.
Maryland Democratic Gov. Wes Moore launched the Governor’s Redistricting Advisory Commission even though state Democrats have backed away from the idea.
From Fox Baltimore:
Moore said the new commission will organize public hearings, collect community feedback, and make recommendations to the governor and the Maryland General Assembly aimed at ensuring fair and representative congressional maps.
“My commitment has been clear from day one—we will explore every avenue possible to make sure Maryland has fair and representative maps,” said Gov. Moore. “This commission will ensure the people are heard. I thank those who have raised their hands to lead this process, and I am confident in their ability to gather the views and perspectives of a broad range of voices throughout the state.”
The bipartisan commission, last convened under former Governor Martin O’Malley in 2011, will begin work this month.
Maryland Democratic Sen. Angela Alsobrooks will chair the commission.
Democrats lead Republicans by 7 districts to 1 in Maryland.
Maryland Democratic Senate President Bill Ferguson already announced the General Assembly will not redraw the state’s map before the 2030 census.
“Despite deeply shared frustrations about the state of our country, mid-cycle redistricting for Maryland presents a reality where the legal risks are too high, the timeline for action is dangerous, the downside risk to Democrats is catastrophic, and the certainty of our existing map would be undermined,” Ferguson told the lawmakers.
The redistricting effort in Texas has sent the Democrats off a cliff. California will vote on Prop 50 today to bypass the nonpartisan commission and allow the Democrat-led legislature to redraw the Congressional districts.

Good luck squeezing blood from that stone.
No taxation without representation.
This comment platform is wonky sometimes. I did not mean that as a reply
Wes Moore attempting to get clicks for a VP run?
No taxation without representation..
Typical Democrat performative politics: appoint a commission that will accomplish nothing yet will still provide the illusion of action.
Perhaps it is hoped to move the Maryland Politicians towards the back of the line for the guillotine run by the most rabid leftists in the d/prog mob?
There are currently no Republican congressmen serving in the U.S. House of Representatives from the New England states (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont). There are 9 Republicans representing California in the U.S. House of Representatives, out of the state’s 52 congressional districts.
These democracy hating thugs have already disenfranchised countless voters. There’s no pleasing some communists I guess.
I;m one (ma) and I’ve been pissed about it for decades now, However it’s our system. It’s a shame though when the system is gamed the way it is being gamed by the current redistricting.
These should be the subject of a RNC sponsored lawsuit for disenfranchisement..
Do it, Wes.
Every minute of attention you waste on this initiative is one that can’t be spent dreaming up even more destructive ideas… like “holistically reimagining” prison and criminal justice practices with a focus on social justice and rehabilitation rather than punitive policies.
Not just because it won’t go anywhere due to resistance in their Legislature (even if it did it would weaken existing d/prog CD to absorb the lone GoP CD making them more competitive and particularly susceptible to a wave election) but primary IMO b/c it draws attention to all the gerrymandering shenanigans. Hard to keep effectively lying about ‘lack of representation’ in Red States when Blue States make every CD a d/prog district even when statewide support for GoP is at 30% or 40%. Tough to be convincing as sincerely making good faith arguments about vote dilution and the need to maintain ‘majority minority’ CD when d/prog are fine with vote dilution for US Citizens and for an entire major political party.
MD only has one (1) Republican Representative so I’ll guess the redrawn lines will at least double their representation?
that Republican has promised to take redistricting to court to get a judge to redistrict in a non partisan way
This is a joke in Democrat run states. I was one of the people testifying when Minnesota claimed they were going to have a panel set up congressional districts fairly. You could read what the judges on that panel we’re going to do before you even open your mouth to explain what needed to be done differently. Democrat control is a joke, but until more people wake up the joke keeps getting a bit sicker.
the reason is not about right now as the dems are in solid control
its about assuring future generations that the dems cant be contested …good night ‘merica
Democrats are redistricting.
How?
There is no blue state that has not been gerrymandered into knots to MAKE a blue state
The California plan that might get them 5 more seats does so by putting 12 or so seats in jeopardy.
Maryland is in the same boat.
He is so cute. He doesn’t want to be left behind like the last guy picked on a flag football team so right after the election he jumps in and flails around. Who want’s to run for President?
