Schumer Facing More Defections During His Shutdown
Can Schumer keep his mates in line?
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has been the consistent Democrat to vote yes on bills to open the government or at least fund parts of it. He refuses to put party over his constituents.
We’ve seen Democrats vote for the CR, including Fetterman.
But yesterday we saw two other Democrats, with Fetterman, vote to pay essential workers during the shutdown: Georgia Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.
Why it matters: Their dissents introduce a new challenge for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). He’s keeping his total number of defections low, but the universe of Democrats willing to defy him is expanding.
- Ossoff and Warnock, both Georgia Democrats, voted — along with Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) — for a GOP-led bill to pay the military and some other federal workers.
- GOP leaders plan to put similar bills on the floor next week, possibly including a measure to pay air traffic controllers through the shutdown.
- Affordable Care Act open enrollment — and the possibility of widespread stoppages to food assistance programs at the beginning of November —could also add pressure on Democrats.
This is a Democrat shutdown. A continuing resolution needs 60 votes.
Therefore, Democrats need to cross the aisle.
By the way, this is exactly how our Founders wanted the government to work. They didn’t want the federal government to work! They made rules to force deadlocks.
It’ll be interesting to see how the days progress.
President Donald Trump has already said he’s prepared to use tariffs to fund areas of the government that need funding. That could be a tricky situation, but if they find a way, it could be another dagger in the Democrats’ plans.

Schumer will be so relieved to see the government opening without his vote.
I am really hoping that AOC primaries him,,all these theatrics for naught!
I’m not.
If Schumer is on the ballot the next time his Senate seat is up, it will just be the same old same old.
On the other hand, if Ocasio-Cortez is on the ballot, having won in the primary, it will be treated by the Democrats and their news media allies as a sort of Second Coming. We will never hear the end of it, and it will serve as ammunition for the other Marxists.
AOC does Know that if she beats Chucky … she still will not be the minority leader right.
can someone draw her a picture so she understands.
She understands. She needs a Senate seat as a secure position from which to run for President. If Chucko ends up resigning, Hochul appoints AOC or Hillary to the seat.
Ain’t Gonna Happen. No way his fellow Democrats fall on their swords to help out Chucko.
since this article is about lying cheating fkfaces like chucky
the huge story of the cheating scandal involving Chauncey Billups mafia etc LEADS RIGHT to the 2020 elections
the msm has no problem explaining how machines that shuffle the cards READ the cards…but the same msm ( and of course with good reason) deny that any cheating for fjb could even possible occur and the Dominion people saying the machines cant cheat ..
ahahhahahaaha
right ..like AI is also soooo honest but then no one argues …”well it depends who programs it”
he Deckmate 2 is the most commonly used shuffler in casinos and has come under recent scrutiny in the poker world for being exploitable to cheating. The shuffler features card-reading camera technology and a USB port that’s usually exposed underneath a poker table.
In 2023, Wired published a story in which hackers from security firm IOActive demonstrated how the DeckMate 2 could be exploited to communicate the order of cards to cheating players.
“Basically, it allows us to do more or less whatever we want,” said Joseph Tartaro, a researcher and consultant with IOActive … “We can, for example, just read the constant data from the camera so we can know the deck order, and when that deck goes out into play, we know exactly the hand that everyone is going to have.”
Light & Wonder, the company that sells the Deckmate 2, told Wired in an ensuing interview that it had updated the firmware in its shufflers to address the security flaws exposed by IOActive. Those updates would have gone out to shufflers in licensed casinos. But shufflers floating around in underground games potentially could have escaped any such update.

chuck vs the squad vs america
the s is hitting the fan
Not for this party of lock step automaton statists/communists. There is no “defection.” Democrats are playing games. They allow those in vulnerable seats to offer a pretense of being responsible, knowing that their nation damaging filibuster can still go on unhindered.
The idea of a representative body’s “leader” (House or Senate) keeping his party members “in line” flies in the face of a representative republic.
Isn’t the idea that the elected representatives represent the wants and needs of those who elect them, not those of the individual “leader”. And Chuckie’s crowd is claiming to be defending democracy. My, my,
Remember, only Republicans are required, and equally stupid enough, to maintain bipartisanship.
They are ALWAYS EXPECTED TO, and willingly reach across the aisle so they can be invited to the DC parties and events.
Democrats are ALWAYS invited to the parties, regardless of what they do.
Because no Democrats, no nose candy,
I suspect what’s increasingly terrifying Schumer:s pals is the possibility of a major airline disaster resulting from stressed- out and non-paid air traffic controllers. God forbid if that happens, it’d be an extinction-level event for the Donks.
These clowns fly a lot. They could actually participate in an air disaster, like if they are going to Martha’s Vineyard to meet with Soros.
Maybe it’s getting close to time to nuke the filibuster.
I don’t understand why they did away with the requirement to be physically present talking to perform a filibuster.
The phones have been ringing non-stop at Ossoff and Warnock’s offices.
