The Senate Democrats, except three, voted down a bill that would fund the Pentagon, which included payment for the troops.
It needed 60 votes to advance to the next round.
The Democrats did this despite the bill leaving committee with a vote of 26-3.
But that also means Democrats who voted for it in the committee did not vote for it today.
Democratic Sens. John Fetterman (PA), Jeanne Shaheen (NH), and Catherine Cortez Masto (NV) voted yes.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer argued against even considering the bill without the annual Labor, Health, and Human Services appropriations bill.
“It’s always been unacceptable to Democrats to do the Defense bill without other bills that have so many things that are important to the American people in terms of health care, in terms of housing, in terms of safety,” Schumer said, as reported by The Hill.
Well, Senate Majority Leader John Thune made it known that if it passed this vote, “lawmakers could have modified it to include other funding bills.”
How about we just keep everything as separate?! Why is that so hard!?
The Senate will adjourn today and not return until Monday.
By the way, this is why our founders set up the government the way that they did. It’s working the way it’s supposed to.
