Keith Ellison’s Son Wants to Keep Cushy Job in Minneapolis While at Harvard for Fellowship
“Without Council member Ellison sitting on those committees, we have zero North Minneapolis representation on those committees. That’s not acceptable to the only other North side council member up here”
Jeremiah Ellison, the son of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, serves as a city councilor in Minneapolis, a position that carries a six-figure salary.
He has been awarded a fellowship at Harvard, a position that typically comes with a significant stipend; however, he doesn’t want to leave his position in Minneapolis. He claims that he will travel back to Minneapolis for some meetings, but other members of the council are not going for it.
FOX News reports:
Keith Ellison’s son to keep 6-figure Minneapolis councilmember salary during fellowship at Harvard
Minneapolis City Councilman Jeremiah Ellison says he will continue receiving his six-figure salary despite accepting a full-time fellowship at Harvard, he announced Wednesday.
Ellison, the son of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, is now facing criticism from his fellow councilmembers, who note that he will not be able to attend meetings and fully carry out his role. Ellison currently receives a roughly $110,000 salary for his role on the council, and his fellowship at Harvard is a paid position.
“I am extremely disappointed in this, and I hope that my colleagues don’t allow this to happen — something to happen to North Minneapolis that is not good for them just once again,” council member LaTrisha Vetaw said during a press conference last month.
“Without Council member Ellison sitting on those committees, we have zero North Minneapolis representation on those committees. That’s not acceptable to the only other North side council member up here,” she added.
Ellison has said he will return twice a month to attend full city council meetings and will also attend his assigned committee meetings virtually, according to KSTP.
Council rules mandate that members must be physically present both to attend meetings and vote.
“I would like to know if there are other employees who are given that privilege,” councilmember Linea Palmisano told KSTP. “And, maybe, I don’t think they would ever be allowed that kind of a paid leave of absence.”
Here’s a video report:
Jeremiah Ellison’s politics are apparently aligned with his notoriously leftist father. In June of 2020, he was all in for the ‘defund the police’ movement.
KARE News reported at the time:
How would defunding the MPD work? City Council member Jeremiah Ellison explains
Thousands of people gathered at Powderhorn Park Sunday afternoon, where spelled in bold letters across a stage was the message “DEFUND POLICE.”
It was hard to miss, and the message was clear.
Nine of the 13 Minneapolis City Council members agree. At the south Minneapolis park, a veto-proof majority made up by Lisa Bender, Alondra Cano, Phillipe Cunningham, Jeremiah Ellison, Steve Fletcher, Cam Gordon, Andrea Jenkins, and Jeremy Schroeder announced they’re planning to disband the police department. Supporters want the millions of dollars going into the Minneapolis Police Department to go into the community instead.
Later that night Ellison talked to KARE 11’s Chris Hrapsky about how this would work.
“We have to start that discussion somehow,” Ellison said. “Today was the beginning of that discussion. We’re obviously not going to hit the eject button without a plan. But if we had come forward with some plan that we had drafted in the last 10 days, I think that the community would have universally rejected that. And so today was about us letting everyone know this is our intention, these are the reasons why.”

Learned grifting on daddy’s knee.
Considering the Welfare Fraud and Feeding Our Futures debacle his father had no interest in investigating this is very small potatoes.
What a promising, talented young piglet. He can suckle more than one teat at a time
Hubris aside, I don’t understand why in this day and age city council or legislative members aren’t allowed to meet remotely. Even some form of secure remote voting could be devised (if it doesn’t already exist) and employed. (Maybe using a thumbprint scanner.)
Before Covid, there were multiple “reasons” why we couldn’t conduct our business remotely (including signature gathering on documents). But all the objections went out the window with the pandemic and we do everything remotely now. Covid was by far and away the greatest single force that moved us to as paperless an office as technology now allows.
I don’t think it’s necessarily the meeting that’s the issue. The issue is that he’s off in New Jersey, not meeting with his constituents in Minneapolis and seeing things firsthand. A councilman’s job is to listen to his constituents and advocate for his district.
In my local school district, one of the school board members has been living in Pakistan for the last year and refuses to resign. He Zooms in for meetings but is otherwise unreachable. My local school district is one of the worst in the state in a state that’s already ranked near the bottom. There is no way he cares about what’s actually going on here, he’s just doing it for the ego boost.
Do Marxist societies have police departments ? If so, what would happen to those who advocated for defunding them?
Watch britain to see the answer to that.

yeah
brownshirts>>>bobbies>>>boobies
Yes, and they are really mad at DJT for eliminating USAID.
According to Glassdoor website the average Missouri State Representative base salary is $57K per year, but this city councilman in Minneapolis is paid nearly twice that much??
Nice grift, if you can get it. Good grief.
Minneapolis is not in Missouri 🙂
However the Minnesota legislature’s salary is not significantly different.
The key point, however, is that state legislator is a part-time position, and legislators are expected to have a day job. Also, they get a generous per diem when the legislature is in session.
Minneapolis city council is a full-time position.
ohhh no!!!! the n word
NEPOBABY
My, oh my. He’s following in daddy’s footsteps to become another political grifter.
Jeremiah Ellison is the son of a Leftist official holding office. I would assume that in Minneapolis he shares the Leftist family exemption on legal restrictions. He will get both.

I’m trying to figure out what sort of fellowship he’s doing at Hah-vahd and how he was selected for that. I went to the LOEB fellowship page on the Ellison spawn and this is all they had for him:
LOL. Alleged policies as a reason to give him a design fellowship. Almost funny, but what is to be expected from Hah-vahd.
I guess the Kennedy School for Failed Leftists was chock full so he got farmed out to the minor leagues.
BTW, the LOEB Fellowship also says this (my emboldening):
Yes, the fellowship, itself says: “In the middle of promising careers they step away from their hectic professional lives for one academic year“.
I think “step away” means not collecting checks …
The Dhimmi-crat hustler rotten apple doesn’t fall far from the hustler rotten tree.
You noted in the post:
“Jeremiah Ellison’s politics are apparently aligned with his notoriously leftist father.”
This is not completely correct, leaving out only the single most important part. Keith Muhammed X. Ellison is not just a “leftist”, he is an Islamic/Marxist.
As a former inhabitant of thee Heart of the Hive™ (SW Minneapolis) I watched as Ellison morphed from a Nation of Islam-type whack-job into a slightly more acceptable-appearing left-wing lunatic. His current denial of his previous name (he actually called himself “Muhammed X. Ellison” for several years) is an attempt to bury his openly radical belief in the application of Islamic law to every person and thing in the US.
When he ran for the position of Attorney General for the State of MN he basically handed over his US House seat to the most radical Islamo-whacko he could find, Ilhan Elmi (now Ilhan Omar). The policies he has implemented as the state’s AG and now uniformly coherent with Sharia, which has been his consistent goal. His role in railroading Chauvin in the St. George Floyd of Fentanyl trial should have led directly to his removal and prosecution, but only garnered him praise from the idiot left-wing populace of the Cities, cementing his position and policies in place.
Minneapolis, once the gem of the Midwest, is now a rotting corpse waiting only for the final collapse. As is goes down, it will economically drag the rest of the state with it. And NOTHING should be done about it with federal taxpayer dollars, since this is what the “citizens” of those metropolitan areas have been voting for since the 1950’s. There was a one-day (literally ONE DAY) mayor (Erdall) who was a Rep-winger back in 1973, but the city council and mayoral office have been held by hard-core Dem-wingers (called “DFL”, or “difflers” in MN) since 1957.
The inhabitants that are left (ten inpunded) are either part of the problem, or too stupid to worry about.
So 3M now stands for Minneapolis Marxists and Malcontents?
