Dems Plan Luxury Retreat in CA Wine Country While Complaining About Shutdown

While Democrats are scrambling to blame Republicans and the Trump administration for the looming government shutdown, the panic has not stopped them from planning a retreat at a luxury hotel in the wine country of California.
The trip is being spearheaded by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), who heads the DSCC, the campaign arm of the Senate Democrats.

Democrats have come under fire for planning a luxury jaunt to California’s wine country while Washington heads toward a possible government shutdown.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), chaired by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, allegedly invited lawmakers to an expensive two-day Napa Retreat from Oct. 13–14 at Hotel Yountville, a five-star resort with hot tubs and vineyard views, according to an invitation obtained by Politico Playbook.
If Congress fails to pass funding legislation before the end of September, the government may still be shut down when some Democrats gather for wine tours and dinners, the outlet reported Saturday.
The retreat, was also said to include dinner at the expensive Staglin Family Vineyards, an organic estate known to be one of Napa’s premier winemakers.
Attendees will include Gillibrand, Sen. Angela Alsobrooks and other Democrats. Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich, is also expected to attend, a Democrat briefed on the plans told Politico.

The event will potentially coincide with a government shutdown, which multiple Democratic senators in recent months have threatened to back in opposition to President Donald Trump. A shutdown will occur if Congress does not pass an agreement to fund the government by the end of Sept. 30.
The majority of the retreat is slated to take place at the hotel, with the noted exceptions of an Oct. 13 wine tour and dinner at the certified organic Staglin Family Vineyards, according to the circulated invitation.
Hotel Yountville’s website describes the luxury resort and spa as a “vineyard estate-inspired retreat” which “extends a Tuscan-European vibe.”

Are we to believe the people packing their bags for a posh retreat in wine country are really worried about the people who will be affected by a government shutdown? Please.

I agree fully with your sentiment, but I must mention that I have seen Bernie’s Lake Champlain home. While it is nice, its value is primarily in the real estate. Nearby homes are far more opulent.
Bernie only owns two homes, he sold his townhouse in DC. That said, how many Americans own a primary home, a lakefront vacation home and pay DC rent? Bernie’s “public service” sure has made him wealthy.

All of Yountville is within the 100 mile zone of the border of the US. Imagine sending ICE and Border Patrol to check the status of everybody within 10 miles of that vineyard. As is perfectly legal.

The people in Congress who cause all the problems by passing or not passing certain legislation, are never directly affected by their arrogance…you suffer, they go on wine tours and stay at 5 star hotels. They take the chance that they can ‘explain’ their arrogance come reelection time and BS the unwashed masses into voting for them again. Congress and DC as well is long over due for a complete flush.
