D.C. Mayor Bowser Tells Police to Work With Feds Indefinitely
Gee, maybe Illinois Gov. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Johnson should swallow their pride.
Um, what? Am I still sleeping? (It feels like it, so bear with me if I make any mistakes today.)
As Illinois Gov. JP Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson rebuke President Donald Trump’s threats to send in the National Guard, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser took a different route.
Bowser directed D.C. police to coordinate with federal law enforcement indefinitely:
The Mayor issued a Mayor’s Order that continues the work of the Safe and Beautiful Emergency Operations Center (SBEOC) in managing the District’s response to the Safe and Beautiful Task Force, established by the President, as well as the Presidential declaration of emergency. During and after the Presidential emergency, the SBEOC will manage the District’s response, coordinate centralized communications, and ensure coordination with federal law enforcement to the maximum extent allowable by law within the District.
The SBEOC will communicate the District’s requests that federal partners adhere to established policing practices that maintain community confidence in law enforcement officers, such as not wearing masks, clearly identifying their agency, and providing identification during arrests and encounters with the public. Post-emergency planning will include the coordination of continued enhanced federal law enforcement efforts with the following agencies, which the District regularly works with: the United States Marshals Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Park Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the United States Capitol Police, and the United States Secret Service.
Bowser has faced criticism from her progressive allies and the media.
However, Bowser admitted that the federal takeover has led to a significant drop in crime.

“The most significant thing that we are highlighting today is the area of crime that was most troubling for us in 2023,” she said, noting that since the surge of federal officers, carjackings fell by 87% compared to the same period last year. “We know that when carjackings go down, when the use of gun goes down, when homicide or robbery go down, neighborhoods feel safer and are safer. So this surge has been important to us.”
The mayor said she spoke with Trump earlier in the day, recalling their first meeting after his reelection. “I was reminded that the president’s interest in cities predates his time in office, and his knowledge of D.C. had significantly increased,” Bowser said. She described the call as a “courtesy meeting,” emphasizing that more substantive discussions had taken place with Attorney General Pam Bondi and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.
It’s so weird what happens when you actually talk and work together like two mature adults.
On Monday, Trump praised Bowser, too:

The top Law Enforcement Officer in L.A. said, during the riots, and when I sent the troops in early, that they couldn’t have done it without us. They were completely overwhelmed! If we hadn’t gone in early, on top of the Palisades plus fires, L.A. would have lost the Olympics. Congratulations to Mayor Muriel Bowser, but don’t go Woke on us. D.C. is a GIANT VICTORY that never has to end!!!
On Tuesday, Trump boasted about the drop in crime in D.C. and aimed remarks at Pritzker.
Trump encouraged the Illinois governor just to call and talk to him. That alone would earn Pritzker some respect from the president.
“Look, I have an obligation,” Trump told the media. “This isn’t a political thing. I have an obligation when we lose, when 20 people are killed over the last two and a half weeks, and 75 are shot with bullets.”

My guess is Trump gave Muriel (not Sha-Nah-Nah) Bowser the ‘Johnson Treatment’. IE: he strong armed her by reminding madam incompetent mayor about the DC Home Rule Act signed into law by (now owed a HUGE apology from the American people) Pres. Richard Nixon in 1973 which created a local government for Washington, DC. that allowed for an elected mayor & city council with little to no power under congressional oversite.
In other words, madam incompetent mayor, shut your hole and know your role or you’ll really taste some pain.

It is amazing that the left couldn’t forgive Nixon his spy hunting considering all the left side crap he did. Wage and price controls. Opening China. OSHA. EPA. I already knew about now I have to add DC Home rule to the list.
You state why I marvel at the left’s undying hatred for Richard Nixon. He was the most Democrat Republican to ever serve as president.

And that is why I am not a fan, and don’t feel like he’s owed an apology. But the left wouldn’t forgive him because he exposed Alger Hiss.
Will wonders never cease? A big-city Dem mayor at least pretends to have discovered which side of the bread the butter is on.
This intervention in DC is the most dangerous, existential threat to the progressive left in decades. Defund the police, gun control and every other leftist crime prevention policy is being proven wrong. If Trump leaves them with a safe city, and they destroy it by reverting to form, they lose everything. They have no other policy of their own, only the failed one. They have to adopt Trump’s or perish. And every politician who championed the failed agenda and wants to run again has to issue a large mea culpa. Kinda sweet when you think about it.
She is pulling a smidgen of victory from a clear defeat by recognizing that she will get some of the credit for improving people’s lives in the city. Unfortunately, the rest of the idiot democrats who run big cities still believe that the downside of cooperating with Trump is far more destructive to their political lives than actually protecting the people who elected them.
She realized that if and when the fed LEOs end their surge, if the crime rate skyrockets, well she is screwed.
I do have to wonder, does this continued cooperation also include ICE? That is the one enforcement agency she doesn’t mention.

Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg has been allowing a violent serial criminal named Kamieo Caines to punch, hit, and stab as many people as he wants. So far, Caines has been arrested and released 20 times.
Trump has obligation to protect national monuments. While tourism is billion dollar business for DC.
