So weird that a child’s politics doesn’t mirror his parents!
The left has latched onto the fact that the parents of Tyler Robinson, the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s assassination, are staunch Republicans.

Well, no. The Guardian, which is a lefty outlet and doesn’t ever try to hide it, actually published an interview it had with one of Robinson’s friends.
The interview confirmed what we all safely assumed: Robinson was a lefty unlike his parents.

I was a hardcore socialist until 2008. Now I’m 100% libertarian! I also changed on my own. My parents did not influence me at all.

I am reminded of the adage: If you are not a liberal when you are young, you have no heart, and if you are not a conservative when old, you have no brain.
Unfortunately, I have 2 (out of 4) middle-aged children who still have no brains.

It’s not true, though. “Liberals”, at least in the modern USAn sense, have neither hearts nor brains.
The earliest versions of this saying have to do with being a republican (as opposed to a monarchist), or a democrat (as opposed to a Federalist).

My parents are JFK dems, who refuse to believe that the party has veered into socialist/communist territory. My one sister used to be active with Daily Kos, attended their conventions (even as a corporate VP) and still supports the Dems – she can’t understand why I dont love Hillary and Kamala. My other sister was an academic, now works for one of the big international consulting firms, but is still a staunch D voter.
I am the sole black sheep conservative in the family, and have been since sometime in my early 20s when I realized which side would allow for differences of opinion within the ranks, and which side (even in the ’80s) wanted everyone dead who didn’t agree with them 100%.
IDK. My mother, like her mother, was a daily Mass kind of Catholic and active in the pro-life movement since Roe was handed down. My dad was an Eisenhower Republican. I have three kids and they’re all beside themselves with grief about Kirk’s death (their mother and I didn’t even know how much all three liked Kirk). My wife comes from a conservative family as well. But, I have a 1st cousin (who grew up with the same influences I did) who’s a Bernie Bro and worked for the Biden and Harris campaigns. She’s been an idiot all her life. Not sure how to explain it, really.

We have an uberleftist employee at the medical practice who has a social media problem, namely she can’t stop putting her keyboard in her mouth and types stupid and very offensive messages unfiltered out into the world. She quite factually partied over this tragedy, and in turn deeply offended a lot of our patients who knew where she worked. She did this before on other issues. She was promptly canned, and decided to go out swinging, trying to enlist support from anyone, including our “Communist Appointment Chicks” (who are actually quite nice—they are just a bit weird). Nobody would have anything to do with her, and she was whinging about first amendment rights, and the usual. Glad I am not the practice manager or the executive partner to have to deal with that. Honestly, I have never come across anyone as hateful and spiteful as she is, and she once told someone she is much more “mild” than her parents. Ye Gods….

There’s plenty of libertarians. They have full ballot access in your State of Texas. The State and County level parties are less influenced by the faux libertarian weirdos who parachute into the National Party structure or the globalists/corporatist types who pretend to be ‘libertarian’ when the discussion is about corporate taxation or regulations but disappear on 2A, eminent domain/civil asset forfeiture abuse. Even the ‘legalize all drugs’ types are mostly in favor of personal responsibility and consequences so that if Joe wants to do heroin then fine but no taxpayer help when he becomes an addict ….other than a cold turkey detox in jail when he gets arrested for theft to support his habit.

I would be curious to know how the editor defines this, “they could not accurately remember details of their relationship.” I have a feeling it was along the lines of him not being able to answer questions such, “What was served for lunch that day in the cafeteria and were you sitting with others and what were they having and what was the weather like and did you own a blue plaid shirt?”

Slightly off topic, but I don’t understand how the Governor of Utah (on Thursday) can give details at a press conference about how the shooter discussed the crime on Discord and potentially secured the rifle from someone on discord and yet, that same Governor can give an interview with Brett Baier yesterday evening and say that ‘no one else was involved.’ Wut?
Where did he get the gun? Without whom was he discussing the upcoming crime on Discord and why is that not definitionally a CONSPIRACY to commit a crime?
Developing news will always have seeming inconsistencies. Give them time to gather all the information and get it into a comprehensible package.
I get that. But, when asked about where the gun came from, they answered quite confidently and said the weapon was ‘illegally obtained,’ and then talked about the Discord server where messages were uncovered between the suspect and an unknown person that discussed a ‘drop point’ for the firearm. These seem like straightforward facts that are tough to get wrong. Either the weapon was illegally obtained or it wasn’t and the Discord server archived these messages, or it didn’t.
I think it was that there was no one else in on the assassination before the fact, just that the killer tried to recruit others after the fact. I’ll await furth further developments as to whether the murderer had success in that endeavor.
