President Donald Trump told the media that he might crack down on crime in Chicago and New York City after the success in Washington, DC.
Really, I really am honored that the National Guard has done such an incredible job working with the police, and we haven’t had to bring in the regular military, which we’re willing to do if we have to.
And after we do this, we’ll go to another location, and we’ll make it safe also. We’re going to make our country very safe. We’re going to make our cities very, very safe.
Chicago is a mess. You have an incompetent mayor, grossly incompetent, and we’ll straighten that one out, probably next, that’ll be our next one after this, and it won’t even be tough.
And the people in Chicago, Mr. Vice President, are screaming for us to come. They’re wearing red hats, just like this one, but they’re wearing red hats, African American ladies, beautiful ladies, are saying, “Please, President Trump, come to Chicago. Please.” I did great with the black vote, as you know, and they want something happen.
So I think Chicago will be next and then we’ll help with New York, and we’re going to help with and I think, really, I think a lot of and a lot of these people that are you see on television, they are including the people in this audience. They’ll say bad things about me, and then they’ll say, “Thank God he’s here” because half of them got mugged, and they don’t want to get mugged again.
But they’re, you know, they work for, they work for stupid people that are the radical left, and they’re made to do things and say things that they don’t want to be saying.
But the people right here are all happy because you’re not going to be mugged in Washington DC anymore.

It’s hard to gauge how DC residents feel about Trump’s actions in the city. The mainstream media only interviews people who hate it. The right-wing media only interview people who love it.

Attorney General Pam Bondi recently said that authorities have made 630 arrests since the takeover.
Let’s look at Chicago homicide stats with a grain of salt. We all know that departments fudge these numbers to look good.
Chicago homicides have gone down by 33% through the first half of 2025.
The police department reported 254 homicides as of August 16.
However, the medical examiner’s office said it has “323 death cases from this year that were still ‘pending,’ meaning a manner of death had not been determined.”
So while Mayor Brandon Johnson boasts that the city might see fewer than 500 homicides in 2025…it’s unlikely to happen.
I mean, 2024 was the 13th consecutive year Chicago received the title of the Nation’s Homicide Capital.
I’m trying to find other crime stats. A review of May shows that crime, such as burglary, motor theft, and hijackings, has decreased.
But as Chicago’s numbers show a drop, they’re nothing compared to those around the country.

Yup, my first thought. Unless he’s trolling everyone again, like on Canada, he’s way out over his skis.
He shouldn’t HAVE to do it but as adults are not in charge in Chicago it looks like he’s gonna have to step in to save the city that Democrats refuse to save themselves.

Not sure what you mean ‘ordinary’ law enforcement? If you mean traffic control then yeah. There’s reams of Federal statutes and multiple Federal LE agencies; US Marshals, FBI, DEA, ATF plus DHS which has 80K sworn LE officers by itself. There’s already all sorts of Joint Federal/State Local ‘crime task forces’ nearly everywhere in which Fed/State/Local agencies work together daily.
If you mean how can use NG and Federal LE Agencies that’s easy. He can surge Federal LE Agencies personnel to a particular city to combat say the drug trade/cartels many of which are members or affiliates of groups now designated as ‘terrorist groups’ which makes it a National Security threat (or the patina anyway). He can use NG in those cities under the same authority and in the same way he did in LA, to accompany and ‘protect’ the Federal LE officers as they conduct their LE mission.
But this isn’t an immigration action, it’s a general crime action. Trump can get away with this in DC because DC is a federally controlled enclave. He doesn’t have the authority to do it inside a state.

Not to over simplify but;
1. The Federal Govt isn’t confined to immigration enforcement.
2. The ‘militia’ aka National Guard (organized militia) is not subject to restrictions of posse comitatus that Active Duty Military are, even in a situation such as recently in CA where the Governor not only didn’t invite/ask for assistance but actively opposed it.
In sum he absolutely can get away with using his authority to call the ‘militia’ (NG) into service to support Federal LEO operations. The NG would be at most confined to ‘presence patrol’ and a deterrent and perhaps to beef up numbers and set outer cordon on an HVT and probably limited to protecting both Federal property and Federal personnel including LEO in performance of their enforcement missions. I suspect they will be more like eye candy and serve in a support role.
Right… BUT the only federal LEO ops they could support would be protection of federal property, assistance of immigration officers, and similar federal concerns. Trump is talking about horning in on a city’s murder and violent crime problem, which isn’t a federal authority. It’s a police powers issue.

The Feds can go after ‘murder/violent crime’ reduction indirectly by targeting ‘gun crimes’. Plenty of Federal statutes to choose from (too many IMO). Same for drugs. Especially when we consider the designation of ‘terrorist org’ for some the gangs/cartels. They gather Intel that IDs Joe Blow as a member of X org. Get a warrant and raid his property. Scoop up everyone there as collateral arrests. Rinse and repeat. Same for human trafficking and other Federal crimes. NG can serve as a force protection element on those, secure and transport prisoners, all sorts of things.
My opinion is the NG is not gonna be used to conduct kinetic ops. They’re gonna be a force multiplier, mostly support functions and serve as eye candy/photos with military vehicles/uniforms in the news reels to generate an image of ‘see how tough the Trump WH is, he sent in the NG’.
Technically, any gun crime can be a federal crime, since some court decided that the parts of all guns somehow at some time moved through interstate commerce. Should give him a foothold.
The crime stats are, of course, a big mud puddle where you can’t see anything.
323 pending…is that normal? abnormal? how many are more than 2 weeks old? How much harder does a homicide/murder report become the longer you wait to analyze? If the police are choosing not to investigate until a coroner’s report is final, then other forms of evidence that can corroborate criminal malfeasance become very difficult to obtain.
I’m not saying I hope more people were murdered, but these data could be completely meaningless depending on the logistics.

Agree. Chicago is probably the toughest nut to crack. Get that place under control and other Blue cities will start toppling like dominos.
The problem with all three cities is the states are vile too. Have to pick the degenerate city with a viable state, Maybe Portland, Seattle, St Louis, Detroit, So many to choose from.
