Sen. John Fetterman Breaks With Party Again, Says Trump Trade Strategy ‘Going Well’

“I’m a huge fan of Bill Maher, and I mean, I think he’s really one of the oracles for my party, and he acknowledged it, it’s like, hey, he thought that the tariffs were going to tank the economy, and then he acknowledged that it didn’t”

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) is once again showing himself to be the most reasonable member of his party. When asked by a reporter from FOX News what he thinks of President Trump’s trade strategy, Fetterman said he believes it is going well, and cited a similar recent statement from Bill Maher.

Fetterman really deserves credit for being his own man, whether it’s on issues related to Israel or President Trump.

FOX News reported:

Dem senator agrees with GOP that Trump’s making progress on trade war

Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman admitted that his party had gotten it wrong about President Donald Trump’s tariffs, saying that, so far, the U.S. trade war is “going well.”

Asked by Fox News Digital whether he thought the Trump administration was winning the trade war, Fetterman responded, “Absolutely.”

“I’m a huge fan of Bill Maher, and I mean, I think he’s really one of the oracles for my party, and he acknowledged it, it’s like, hey, he thought that the tariffs were going to tank the economy, and then he acknowledged that it didn’t,” said Fetterman.

“So, for me,” he went on, “it seems like the E.U. thing has been going well, and I guess we’ll see how it happens with China.”

This comes as Trump is increasing the tariff on Canada from 25% to 35% beginning on Friday, after the U.S. neighbor to the north failed to help curb the imports of fentanyl and other illicit drugs. The White House noted that Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to increase the tariff in an effort to hold Canada accountable for its role in the flow of illicit drugs into the U.S.

Fetterman is right about Bill Maher. He did say that he was wrong about Trump’s tariffs.

From The Hill:

Maher: I was wrong that Trump’s tariffs would ‘sink the economy’

Bill Maher is acknowledging that the doom and gloom predictions he had about the economy being negatively impacted by President Trump’s tariff plan so far haven’t panned out.

“I remember I, along with probably most people, were saying at the beginning, by the Fourth of July … the economy was going to be tanked by then,” Maher said in a recent interview on his “Club Random” podcast with progressive political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen.

“And I was kind of like, well, that seems right to me,” Maher continued.

“But that didn’t happen,” the HBO “Real Time” host said of Trump’s trade strategy.

“Now, it could happen tomorrow. I’m just saying — that’s reality. So let’s work first from the reality of that, not from, ‘I just hate Donald Trump,’ because that’s boring and doesn’t get us anywhere, and leads you to dishonesty” Maher said.

While this guy talks a good talk he continues to vote Democrat at every opportunity in the Senate.

Maher and Fetterman are both odd ducks and entertaining to watch mostly because of the feathers they roughly. Interestingly enough the both seem somewhat honest and willing to acknowledge mistakes which is remarkable for anyone let alone public figures in this day.

However what the hell do they actually know about international trade and economics? When predicting what the tariffs will do anyone can pick a side have a 50% chance of being right.

I suspect the effect of tariffs with the exception of the deals it prompted are probably unknown at this time. Give it 3 to 6 months of application before drawing a conclusion,

The problem with the “give it 3-6 months” mob is that no one knows when the starting period for that time frame is 🤷‍♂️

Fetterman may appear to be a realist from his statements, but he votes in virtual lockstep with the most batshit crazy of his party.

Until his voting mirrors his rhetoric, I see him as merely making a series of election ads that portray him as a not-insane moderate Dem.

Too bad we can’t get the guy to stop voting like a lunatic

I don’t trust my Senator as far as I could throw him, and he is twice my size.
But hope he is a burr under their saddle

Fine, but the intellectual inconsistencies of Maher and Fetterman is idiotic. I don’t understand how you can be lucid with a handful of policies and absolutely off the rails with everything else. Either you apply critical thinking or you don’t.

I think we need to wait until AOC threatens to primary Fetterman to see what he does. That may just push him over to the other side. PA would most likely re-elect him because all Rs would vote for him and many disaffected Dems.

Trump tariffs aren’t causing inflation. Replace powell. Cut rates.
