Newsom Hated Big Oil, But Now Wants to Boost Oil and Gas Production
Even California and Democrats have started to learn the error of their ways.
The lovely Leslie Eastman has spent years documenting California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s hatred of big oil.

I think I got all of them!
As you can see, California has lost a few oil companies due to California’s and Newsom’s crackdown.
Two weeks ago, Newsom proposed legislation to drill, baby, drill. From Bloomberg:
California Governor Gavin Newsom is proposing a bill to streamline permitting for new oil wells that environmental groups say would wipe out scrutiny of the industry.
The bill would establish “plug-to-drill” permitting until 2036 where two wells would have to be plugged and abandoned before a new one is drilled. In addition, drillers no longer would need well approval from the Geologic Energy Management Division, known as CalGem, so long as certain conditions are met.
Of course, Newsom cast himself as a hero and not the problem.
“Refineries all across the globe are struggling,” said Newsom. “We’ve got some challenges, and so just require some new considerations.”
*massive eye roll*
You know, though, the legislation might not face much resistance from Democrats.
Yes, even Democrats and environmentalists know the war on Big Oil has come dangerously close to the point of no return:
The about-face is emblematic of Democrats’ course correction on cost-of-living issues in the wake of the presidential election — and provides a real-time demonstration of the political risks of pursuing an aggressive transition away from fossil fuels.
“The reality is, if those refineries close and we have increased gas prices, it’s going to be a problem for everybody,” said Andrew Acosta, a veteran California Democratic campaign consultant. “Not just Gavin Newsom, but every Democrat running for office.”

Even some environmentalists are having second thoughts.
“I think Democrats sort of failed to read the room, perhaps in a way that, unfortunately, Trump did,” said Katelyn Roedner Sutter, California director for the Environmental Defense Fund. “If we’re not acknowledging people’s day-to-day reality and the challenges they face, it’s really hard for them to care about the existential threat that is climate change.”
Kern County, which produces 80% of California’s oil, showed enthusiasm for the bill. The Board of Supervisors already voted “to continue oil production in unincorporated areas of Kern County, approving the oil permitting ordinance.”
The move could produce up to 2,000 permits.

Newsom epitomizes the sleazy used car salesman persona. He looks at a beat up old car that he destroyed and tries to spin in how great it is. What he’s done to California should make him toxic for a Presidential run.
Never underestimate the stupidity of the left. It will always do something even dumber to fix the problem it just created.
Newsome definitely has not learned the error of his ways – he’s just dialing down the rhetoric and action against oil companies to reduce electoral backlash – it will go right back after his next electoral attempt.
He does not give one hoot for the taxpayer or the oil companies or the price of gas.
All commies are used car salespeople for whom any moderating promises expire one day after the election results are certified.
All Newsom has learned is that $10 gal gasoline will stand in the way of his Dem nomination
Not $1 from anywhere else, let him reap what he’s sown

even the despots have to admit capitalism is the greatest system for ethical freedom
So much winning, especially on the topics I cover. However, I am still not tired of all the winning. More, please!!!!
The dog chased cars and now he caught one… oops
Where is this oil going to be processed? And how is it going to be transported there? How many petroleum processing plants are closing in Kalifornia? Highest number of millionaire+ people will flee to other states?
BTW: Georgia does not need any more Kali transfer in’s. There are Kali tagged cars that are due taxes in Kali without insurance for multiple years that blow through traffic like it is the speedway.
Looking around the state, is there anything other than expanded oil revenue that can possibly plug the half-trillion dollar hole that CA is in? Not that I can see. 15 years ago the combined CALSTRS, CALPERS and Cal State / U Cal combined debt load was over $100 billion. Composite debt is now much worse. A strong commitment to oil production — especially offshore oil — might fill in that hole some. But it will require a full repudiation of 50+ years of mismanagement.
CA is still pretending that ethanol in gasoline is anything but a huge waste of time and money. Why does the state import trainloads of ethanol under armed guard (BATFE) to mix with gasoline? Oh, to suppress emissions from carbureted cars and trucks. What part of the fleet today is carbureted? Round that down to 0%.
Billions in compliance cost do what? Nothing of value. But ethanol lowers the energy density of gasoline and boosts the price. This results in higher sales tax revenue and increased per-gallon tax revenue. Oh, and perhaps a thousand government jobs to make sure maximum harm is done to the citizens of the state. Like the train to nowhere, but with stronger entrenched interests.
SMH,

TL;DR: Dems Leave Citizens Without Petroleum — Warmists Hardest Hit.
How are they going to refine now that Newsom and the Democrats have forced 2 refineries out of business? Is this the first step towards seizure of them?
Hopefully. They still need people to run them, at both the field and managerial levels. Take a look at how the high-speed train is coming along. Fed support for the deal has been cut since all the money invested in it has disappeared, yet not a foot of track has been laid. It was supposed to be operational by a couple years ago.
That’s a lot lower tech than an oil refinery.
I don’t think any seizure by the state government will work, for the reasons listed by COYOTE below; but I still hope that they will do it. If there is anything that will push the remaining refineries to start to prepare to c;lose down, that will be it. That and the rest of the petrochemical industry in California.
And the push to move out of California will not be limited to the petrochemical industry. If you run any business of any size and you see a serious possibility that it may be seized by the state [and in California, maybe seized for the personal benefit of either politicians or friends of politicians] how eager are you going to be to remain?

“… it’s going to be a problem for everybody … every Democrat running for office.” ~~~~ this part shows that there is NO concern for the public, just for the elite politicians who have to woo public votes to maintain their public hog-trough feedlot.
