National Guard-Assisted Crime/Illegal Immigration Crackdown to Expand to 19 States

National Guard-Assisted Crime/Illegal Immigration Crackdown to Expand to 19 States

“…missions coordinated under state governors are projected to expand in the coming weeks – including in Virginia, where approximately 60 soldiers and airmen will begin training next week.”

As Legal Insurrection reported, President Donald Trump revealed during an informal Oval Office presser on Friday that he was considering making Chicago and New York City the next stops on his crime/illegal immigration crackdown after Washington, D.C.

“Chicago is a mess. You have an incompetent mayor, grossly incompetent, and we’ll straighten that one out, probably next, that’ll be our next one after this, and it won’t even be tough,” he stated, while later noting that New York City was another on the list of priority cities.

One argument Democrats and the mainstream media have been trying to throw at Trump is that if he was so concerned with crime, then why doesn’t he push for National Guard action in red states that have crime issues?

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), a prospective 2028 presidential hopeful, is among those who have echoed that talking point:

Leaving aside that any red state that allegedly has a “higher per capita murder rate” likely has it due to out-of-control crime in blue cities, the question is an attempted gotcha, with the insinuation that Trump’s NG actions in Washington, D.C., are more about embarrassing D.C. Democrats than fighting crime.

Except on Friday evening, there was fresh reporting that there were plans to expand National Guard assistance to 19 states, with most of them being red ones:

Up to 1,700 National Guardsmen are set to mobilize in 19 states in the coming weeks to assist the Department of Homeland Security with President Trump’s nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration and crime, Pentagon officials confirmed to FOX News.

Documents obtained by FOX News show planning for activations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wyoming – with status effective from August through mid-November. Texas is projected to host the most significant Guard presence.

The National Guard soldiers being mobilized will effectively serve as a support pillar to a sweeping federal interagency effort, while also serving as a visible deterrent force, a U.S. Defense official said. The service members supporting ICE will be performing case management, transportation, logistical support, and clerical functions associated with the processing of illegal migrants at the facilities. “The in-and-out processing may include personal data collection, fingerprinting, DNA swabbing and photographing of personnel in ICE custody,” the official said.

Fox News senior White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich shared more information on her X feed:

– Fewer than 2% of the authorized forces have mobilized so far, but missions coordinated under state governors are projected to expand in the coming weeks – including in Virginia, where approximately 60 soldiers and airmen will begin training next week

– Under the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, use of the federal armed forces for civilian law enforcement is generally prohibited – but the National Guardsmen will be mobilizing under Title 32 Section 502F authority, to which Posse Comitatus does not apply.

– Guardsmen will remain under command and control of their governors, so it’s up to governors when they’ll bring in those forces – timelines will differ by state because of this

In an update, Heinrich reported that White House officials wanted it clarified that these plans were in the works well before Trump decided to federalize law enforcement in D.C.:

The White House is emphasizing that planning for National Guard activations in 19 states for DHS logistical support preceded President Trump’s comments within the last 48 hours about replicating enforcement efforts seen in Washington, DC in other parts of the country. The White House flags this statement by Sean Parnell (which is referenced in detail in our article)

On background from a White House official: “This isn’t new nor is it tied to the President’s efforts to address violent crime in DC. DoD announced last month that National Guard troops would assist DHS with clerical support and other logistical tasks for processing illegal aliens at ICE facilities. It is separate from the federal interagency crime crackdown. Bottom line: The National Guard mobilizing to assist ICE processing with clerical and logistical tasks in several states is not the same as the President’s actions to stop crime in DC.”

It sounds as though the National Guard administrative assistance will be more on the DHS/ICE side of things than the local law enforcement side of things. But either way, rest assured that there will be more wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Usual Suspects if the cities the National Guard ends up assisting in are primarily Democrat-run.

“the insinuation that Trump’s NG actions in Washington, D.C., are more about embarrassing D.C. Democrats than fighting crime”

Both? I think it can be both. Both is good.

Maybe this is 5 deminsional chess from Trump and his good advisors this time around. Target red states so all the criminal flee to blue states and cause their crime rates to skyrocket since they’re sanctuaries for illegals. Then what can Newsom or the others say?

DC is a one-off case – since it’s Congress that has the authority to run it and has only delegated that power to the local mayor and city govt – posting NG there to help those with enforcement authority (ie local LEO) is a no brainer.

It also makes sense that if the DC experiment works he would want to offer help to other cities with bad crime stats. Starting with Blue cities in Red states – since the governors of Blue states are never gonna request such aid – better (to them) that their voters die than Trump be seen as The Good Guy.

Arresting does nothing unless the prosecutors do something.

The blue state hells never prosecute. In Wa, you can get CAUGHT stealing a car 20 times and never see the inside of a jail cell.

The local CNG was called up immediately after the Palisades fire and spent eight weeks working to manage the wildfire fallout – refugee, looting, traffic control etc. They were sent back to LA to tamp down Newsom’s antifa-mercenary No Kings riots. They were deployed until about 4 weeks ago – a pretty long time. I was thinking – why so long?

Because Newsom/Democrats were looking to kick off another summer of rage – and Trump responded by garrisoned troops there until “No Kings” deflated like one of those sad, uninflated, Santa Claus lawn ornaments?

This will be the framework-model for national guard unit deployments when the Dems try to riot/disrupt the mid-term/2028 elections.

The South, most of which is “red” has always had a much higher crime rate than the North. This has nothing to do with government policies; it’s a matter of demographics. No matter how good a “red” state’s policies, and no matter how bad a “blue” state’s, if the former has more criminals than the latter then it’s going to have more crime.

When asked why states that respect the RKBA have a higher crime rate than ones that ignore it, I generally answer that that’s precisely why. In states with more crime, the RKBA is more important to people, so they elect governments that respect it; in states with relatively lower crime rates people don’t feel as much need to protect themselves, so they elect governments that ignore the constitution and don’t allow it.

Milhouse, I was going to just make a joke and ask what the Racine Kenosha Builders Association of Wisconsin has to do with this – but I also think you’re confused on cause and effect a bit.

Every blessed Blue City with higher crime rates than the rest of their state (ie almost all of them) has more stringent firearm restrictions – they knee jerk passing more and more anti-gun laws every time gun crimes make headlines – the laws they pass disarm the law abiding and are ignored by the criminals – leading to more crime and more gun crime headlines – leading to more knee jerk anti-gun laws every – wash, rinse, repeat.

Democrats will go so far as throwing themselves on the street in front of law of law enforcement. They don’t have a single criminal/illegal to spare.

lefty : its racist that trump sends troops to poc run cities

meanwhile which cities get all the money and all the cry of victimhood ??

the poc run cities

A slippery slope. If it’s just ICE and a deeper immigration crackdown, all right then. Going after local teenage criminals, no. I want blue states to marinate in their own stupidity.

    Whitewall in reply to Titan28. | August 23, 2025 at 1:39 pm

“I want blue states to marinate in their own stupidity.” That is the goal of the left, to destroy. With destruction they can take away anything someone owns or has built and it prevents someone from coming along and building something for their own benefit. Meanwhile power and graft are available to those at the top until that too ceases to exist.

    Andy in reply to Titan28. | August 23, 2025 at 9:01 pm

I have the same inclination. I’m also conflicted with it.

I fled a blue state hell hole.

💯 This is too close to federalization of police.

I really don’t get why people are okay with it, especially since they didn’t like it when it was Obama’s idea.

Clearly, we should call a spade a spade and send troops to cities with large Scandinavian populations. I’ve always thought Amish gang violence in urban America should also be addressed. Then we can take on the out of control senior citizen crime gangs of Florida. (s)

Well… Some are. Probably comes from all the sneaking around to do their drinking and dancing on the sly and out view of the Baptist Amen Corner. On the other hand when I was young and single in B’ham and still ‘sowing oats’ the preacher’s daughters at Samford were a target rich environment with no commitment necessary, expected or in most cases desired. Those young women were out to sow oats themselves.

now is the time to allow good americans to KNOW who these under 18 criminals are

it is a lefty controlled narrative that allows them to stay protected…the. rinos love their leftists so they dont even try to help the good citizens

“I think he should start with Shreveport, Louisiana, and Speaker Johnson’s district that has 6x+ the per capita murder rate of Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco. ”

Of all the California cities, why did he choose San Francisco?
Where the people are too stoned to do anything more violent than shoot up and poop on the sidewalk?
I have a way better list of California cities to compare to. Perhaps Gavin isn’t aware he owns any of those.

I wish Trump had just stuck to Washington DC and made it a shining city on top of the mountain.

He does have the legal authority and the left is already unhinged about Trump’s “takeover” of Washington DC.

Let the rest of the Blue Cities wallow in their self made filth and crime.

As the Great Man from Kenya once said, “Elections have consequences.”
