MSNBC Unveils New Name After Breaking Up With NBC News
MSNBC will be known as MS NOW: My Source for News, Opinion, and the World.
I had no idea MSNBC and NBC News broke up!
In November, Comcast announced it would create a publicly traded company with NBCUniversal networks: USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY, and Golf Channel.
Versant will become the parent stand-alone home of those cable networks.
MSNBC will be known as MS NOW: My Source for News, Opinion, and the World.
When the spinoff was first announced last winter, executives signaled that MSNBC would be keeping its name. But “during this time of transition, NBCUniversal decided that our brand requires a new, separate identity,” Kutler wrote in her memo. “This decision now allows us to set our own course and assert our independence as we continue to build our own modern newsgathering operation.”
“While our name will be changing, who we are and what we do will not,” she added. “Our commitment to our work and our audiences will not waiver from what the brand promise has been for three decades.”
The split also means MS Now won’t rely on any NBC News resources or remain at Rockefeller Center.
That explains why the network has been hiring many people lately.
Versant will not change CNBC’s name because it stands for “Consumer News and Business Channel.”
However, all of the companies will stop using NBC and its peacock.
Variety mentioned “that Wall Street thinks linear cable channels can’t be revived, given that the subscriber base for cable is shrinking every year as more households cut the cord and younger families never sign up.”
I do not know if that is true. I’m getting fed up with having to pay for different subscription services. Granted, many have been merging. It’s harder to flip between sporting events, too.

The only thing I know about msnbc is what I read here. Never watch the channel but I do know the new name would be more appropriate as BSNOW.

I am confused. Their motto: “My Source for News, Opinion, and the World” makes little sense. I get the News and Opinion part however biased, but “My Source for … the World” could mean any number of things such as global real estate, global cruise company, managing the World Economic Forum, managing the Olympics, entry point to the UN, etc. Are we to believe that DJT could work through MS to acquire Greenland?

Spin offs like this are usually an attempt by the parent to keep the loser child from dragging down the whole family.
In other words, MSN Whatever is expected to go bankrupt within the next year or two.
I heard from a couple of The View panelists that it was NBC that was pushing the far left line. I suspect many of the MS shows will openly support Trump.

I have a friend who obsessively watched MSNBC and will probably watch this new mutation just as much. She just quotes whatever they say and gets outraged and angry but their latest drama-thons, whether it’s transgender, illegal immigrants, or palestinians. She hates fox news and believes its the source of all evil on planet earth and generally just seems to react like a frog in a biology class having it’s limbs shocked to test it’s reflexes. I feel bad for her, but she seems to enjoy being perpetually upset, after all it takes away focus from her severe and real health problems, chronic pain and personal life issues. So I just roll with it, but like every 3 weeks she’ll get really drunk and send me insane texts about whatever crazy thing MSNBC is getting all worked up about. I can literally check their website and find whatever nut root thing she was upset about. I’m sure there’s people who react to Fox news like this or CNN or Tic Tic or instagram or facebook etc etc. It’s sad really but kind of makes sense in how that dopamine hit out of outrage and moral righteousness feels good and takes us away from our own possibly sad reality, feelings of shame, loneliness and helplessness.
Compared to this lame move, the new branding at Cracker Barrel was brilliant.
