Minnesota Catholic School Leaders Warned Walz of Threats Two Years Ago
The leaders sent Walz a letter a few weeks after the Nashville school shooting.
According to The Daily Wire, Minnesota Catholic schools begged Gov. Tim Walz for more security for private schools two years ago after a transgender attacked a Christian school in Nashville.
Walz did nothing.
The Minnesota Catholic Conference (MINNDEPENDENT) President Tim Benz and Executive Director Jason Adkins sent the letter on April 14, 2023, a few weeks after Audrey Hale murdered three adults and three children at The Covenant School.
Benz and Adkins reminded Walz that Minnesota has “72,000 students enrolled in Independent, Catholic, Jewish, Christian and Muslim nonpublic schools.”
“The latest school shooting at a nonpublic Christian school in Tennessee sadly confirms what we already know – our schools are under attack,” added Benz and Adkins. “In Minnesota, nonpublic schools, particularly our Jewish and Muslim schools, have experienced increased levels of threats, all of which we must take very seriously.”
Benz and Adkins requested Walz assisted the state legislature to pass his “budget recommendation of $50 million to establish the Building and Cyber Security Grant Program.”
The men also wanted Walz to push the legislature to add all schools, public and nonpublic, to the program.
The letter shocked me because the Safe Schools Program does not cover nonpublic school:
Since 2020, nonpublic schools have been advocating to be part of the Safe Schools Program that provides funding to school districts for emergency response training, security upgrades, mental health services, and security resources. The legislation supported by our collective organizations provides state aid to school districts, intermediate school districts, charter schools and nonpublic schools for this program. Unfortunately, this program currently does not cover nonpublic schools, charter schools and intermediate school districts and it is a levy-only program for school districts.
An attack on any school, whether it is a public, nonpublic, charter or another school site, cannot be tolerated or allowed to happen in Minnesota. We want to make sure Minnesota is doing everything it can to ensure that all our students are safe and secure. We ask you include $50 million in the final Education Finance bill and allow nonpublic schools to apply for funding.
Granted, I believe the private schools here in Oklahoma City cover their own security measures.
Walz agreed with the bishops “that people should feel safe in their schools and places of worship.”
Adkins told The Daily Wire that Walz also agreed with a program that “would have ‘created a consistent funding stream from the state budget on a per pupil basis for all students, not just those in Catholic/private schools.'”
The state legislature never made the appropriations.
So did Walz ever suggest the ideas to the lawmakers? Did he even fight for the nonpublic schools?
Adkins said “that Minnesota had an $18 billion dollar budget surplus in the 2023-24 session and this was not funded.”
MINNDEPENDENT asked for $50 million but it seems Minnesota had at least some money it could have appropriated for the nonpublic schools.
Grant programs are a way for private schools to receive government money and remain private.

walz said he stopped listening when they wouldnt put tampons in boys bathrooms
Walz, who is more popular than sliced bread, raises his arms to accept the applause of the adoring populace.
to be fair…there are always plenty of threats etc
the difference is that the dems want/need carnage..us civilized people dont want that
Walz needs to place the “gun free zone” signs along the perimeter of the property.
yeah but then his security team might be at a disadvantage
Discuss would let you quote him saying Mi is a safe haven for tranny’s. Just never mention its not safe for kids at church.
So as a parent of a child at a private school I got to pay for the education of that child both through taxes (no benefit) and again through a check to the private school.
until we get the gop to stop THAT nonesense
All abnormal, non-heterosexuals must be rounded up and deported.
And, where would you like to send me, Mr. Hunt?
Please advise. Thank you.

Good grief you’re ugly. So I guess you think a couple of my cousins and a few friends should go there too? No excuse for that hatred.
.
I make no excuses.
Probably the loudest voice in the choir on Sunday mornings.
And somebody is probably the noisiest in the Sunoco men’s room on a Friday night.
“If you don’t vote Democrat, you’re not Catholic” would be Wslz’s FJB reply. Lest we forget, the FJB admin considered conservative Catholics to be dangerous. All the satanic stars align in Minneapolis.
Fair to say, these administrators who were continually and ineffectively imploring their enemy to fund the defense of their lives didn’t recognize him as their enemy because they probably voted for him.
There is little so short-sighted as a conservative group that contents itself in depending upon a gaggle of progressives to continue to supply their critical infrastructure without working towards politically reliable alternatives.
“Walz did nothing.”
Which, ironically, is the best he could do since he is by his own admission good friends with school shooters. Walz is a fool in the most unflattering definition of the word.
🤡 🤡🤡
Teachers need to be armed. That’s not a popular opinion but again and again we learn of teachers shielding kids with their bodies.
Allow them to shoot back.
How in the world is this even a controversial take?
the fewer leftists that are armed the better off we are
the unions are in control of the teachers
they are neither friends of the children or freedoms and have proven to be friends of blmplo
the police should be on campus…but b/c of the above mentioned reasoning
lefty says that the police present the biggest danger to the children
stop funding public schools
pay teachers directly
then the parents and the teacher…not unions etc,, can decide on what the best safety measures should be
The left — in servitude to their principle that “anything not forbidden is mandatory” — will immediately reframe the issue in terms of “forcing all teachers to carry guns.” If the MSM can’t FUD the electorate with that, they will switch to “forcing schools to purchase guns for all their teachers,” which is also not anywhere near the issue. They are incapable of imagining that there exist teachers who already own guns and would be happy to carry them… if the damn school got out of their own way and let them.
Umm. Again, the shooter shot up a Catholic church that had Catholic students in it having mass. This was not a “school shooting.” Walz is a piece of trash but the whole premise of this article is wrong.
agree
Leftists want everyone in public schools controlled by the teachers unions. They’ve always been hostile to the private sector.
Teachers shouldn’t be in a union in the first place, nor should policemen or firemen… public sector unions essentially put the government in the position of bargaining against itself by representing the union members on the one hand and supposedly representing the taxpayers on the other. Guess which side gets its way in a labor dispute? Guess which side puts its finger on the election scale through donations?
Public sector unions are just grift machines to line the pockets of politicians and labor bigwigs. The rank and file union members might get a sop or two thrown to them, but by and large they get shafted. The taxpayer always gets shafted.
One of my early memories growing up in California is my sh*tlib teachers, and everybody else’s, standing right outside the school waving signs and screaming like harpies over money. They couldn’t have looked any sillier.
The classrooms were normally a form of never ending chaos. The substitute teachers that day were a pleasant surprise. Everyone behaved.
I missed out on so many rites of passage.
Nuns and male religious orders simply don’t do that.
