After Trump Pulls Secret Service Protection, California Taxpayers Will Cover Harris

While the Associated Press reported the Secret Service found “no red flags or credible evidence of a threat” to Harris, California will now spend taxpayer dollars to fund what Biden had tried to quietly slip through in Washington.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is losing her Secret Service protection after President Trump canceled an unknown Biden order that quietly extended her coverage beyond what the law provides. Now, California taxpayers are stepping in to cover the cost.

By law, former vice presidents receive six months of protection after leaving office. Harris’s expired in July. But before leaving the White House, Joe Biden secretly extended her detail until July 2026. Trump revoked that carve-out, signing a memorandum ending her federally funded protection effective Monday.

Law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times that the California Highway Patrol will now provide Harris with state-funded dignitary protection.

Gov. Gavin Newsom, who would need to sign off on such CHP protection, would not confirm the arrangement. “Our office does not comment on security arrangements,” said Izzy Gordon, a spokesperson for Newsom. “The safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses.”

Democrats are portraying the decision as retaliation. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared:

Bass in a statement, said “This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation in the form of firings, the revoking of security clearances and more. This puts the former Vice President in danger and I look forward to working with the governor to make sure Vice President Harris is safe in Los Angeles.”

The move comes just weeks before Harris embarks on a 15-stop international book tour for her memoir 107 Days, with events in Los Angeles, New York, and London.

California taxpayers will cover Harris? Let me guess. Lifetime protection!!

Is that all? How about travel, food and lodging?

But why stop there? How about a clothing allowance?

I would say, “Don’t give Sacramento any ideas for God’s sake!” but they will find more ways to waste public funds.

A point I found out after he passed. After Richard Nixon left the presidency, he paid for his own security instead of using the Secret Service. I wonder how many other rich politicians can say the same.

California’s fund for protecting dignitaries is intended for current state office holders and visiting foreign officials. Harris is neither.

No problem. Just don’t ask for a per diem to cover her booze. That way lies bankruptcy.

Gooder and harder, California.

Is there anything Gavin Newsom can’t do (with your money)?

“Bass in a statement, said “This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation”

Yup. It’s revenge and retaliation when a DEI hire is held to exactly the same standard as every one of her predecessors.
And definitely according to another DEI hire.

“an unknown Biden order that quietly extended her coverage beyond what the law provides.”

Wouldn’t it be a hoot is this order were the one that cracks open the whole autopen scandal?

Because the phrase “For Joe so loved his Vice President” appears in absolutely no bible anywhere.

So glad I don’t live in CA. MA is bad enough.

There is no one that want to harm a hair on the very empty head of this woman.

People on the left want her to run again against the evil white patriarchy (J.D. Vance).

People on the right want her to run so she gets to fill the room with her wisdom and knowledge.

What will happen to California when their money eventually runs out?

They count on OPM … Other People’s Money. Too bad for them Other People have no intention of sharing.

It may already have. The budget deficit for Fiscal 2024-2025 was $12B, projected to grow to $20B for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. With people fleeing the sinking ship, it is hard to see the situation getting any better.

It depends on timing. If a Dem is POTUS, it will be bailed out. If there’s a MAGA POTUS, they will be allowed to sink (I hope). The country needs an example of the calamity that can happen due to unrestrained taxing and spending. Not having seen that happen, they believe it’s all OK – someone will bail them out. They need to see an actual collapse as an object lesson in the dangers of profligate spending.

I’m glad they have money for this and not stupid things like clearing underbrush to prevent wildfires.

No doubt CHP will put the best and brightest on the protection detail.

Me not understand why the left’s headlines get repeated on the right so much. This issue is a great example. “After Trump pulls Secret Service protection…” *should read*: “Upon termination of Biden’s unusual extension of Secret Service protection…” — with a byline of how the seemingly excessive benefit extension appears to have been an attempt to finance on the federal taxpayers’ dime, a private citizen author’s global book launch tour.

Also: “unknown order”? So… not a published Presidential Executive Order? Or… something more nefarious, such as a lapdog media-ignored but publicly available EO that nobody pays attention to or bothers connecting the dots on because, well… grift / narrative / so much the same ol same ol that we’re desensitized to it / what have you.

IOW, just tell the truth. Stop it with the mission-stunting repetition of the bullsh*t words and phrases they twist things into. FFS.
