Vijeta Uniyal’s 10th Anniversary at Legal Insurrection

Vijeta Uniyal’s 10th Anniversary at Legal Insurrection

Vijeta is the unsung hero of Legal Insurrection. It’s about time we sing his praises.

On July 16, 2015, Vijeta Uniyal wrote his first post for Legal Insurrection.

His first post was India prepares for fallout from Iran nuclear deal. Ten years later, we’re still grappling with the fallout from that deal.

At the bottom of the post I added this note:

(WAJ note: We are looking forward to more posts about India, the Indian diaspora, and the Israeli-Indian relationship from Vijeta.)

Little did I know that the “more posts” would amount to 2,021 posts in total as of today.

Vijeta graduated from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and worked for more than 10 years in international organizations including the German Foreign Office, Goethe-Institut and Humboldt-Foundation. A well-known expert on Israel-India relations, Vijeta is also the founder of “Indians 4 Israel,” a leading Indian pro-Israel group online on Facebook and X.

I don’t know how I met Vijeta, we must have crossed paths on the pro-Israel internet somehow. He was writing at the time for the Gatestone Institute, but has written in many publications, including the Jerusalem Post, The Times of Israel, The Indian Express, Arutz Sheva/Israel National News, Jihad Watch, Algemeiner Journal, Frontpage Mag, Epoch Times, Israel Hayom, JNS, and elsewhere.

Vijeta is the unsung hero of Legal Insurrection. It’s about time we sing his praises.

Vijeta served for many years as our “foreign” correspondent covering overnight developments from his home in Germany with a stint in South Africa when his wife was stationed there.

Vijeta has been a fearless defender of Israel and fighter against antisemitism.

Vijeta’s work defending Israel has been profiled in many publications, including this Israeli magazine, about which Vijeta comments on Facebook:

As a Hindu and diaspora Indian, there is no honor greater than to be counted among the friends of Israel and the Jewish people.

In 2020, Vijeta was named to JNS’s Top 40 Advocates for Israel Online.

That same year, Vijeta also was Named to Algemeiner’s “Top 100 People Positively Influencing Jewish Life 2020” (an honor I earned in 2019). Here is the entry for Vijeta:

https://www.algemeiner.com/list/the-top-100-people-positively-influencing-jewish-life-2020/vijeta-uniyal/

Vijeta stepped up to the plate on October 7, 2023, and has provided our primary coverage of the October 7 Massacre and resulting wars in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran. From his base in Germany, just one hour behind Israel time, he was able to cover overnight (Eastern) developments.

We could not have provided the coverage we have without Vijeta, and the commitment and sensitivity he has brought to the topic has been deeply appreciated.

But more than anything, Vijeta is just a great guy to work with. I’m hoping someday we can meet in person.

We are fortunate to have had Vijeta for 10 years, welcoming him into a rarified club of survivors at Legal Insurrection.

Bravo! And many thanks!

Thank You Vijeta for all your wonderful reporting. And Thank You Dr. Jacobson for having Vijeta on your team all these years.

Was there a redemption arc like the fictional Vegeta?

Congrats on your career, and thank you for the content I have read over the decade.

You’ve had quite the career. I had no idea. We are lucky to have you. … And you are also the single most pleasant person I’ve ever worked with anywhere! Congratulations Vijeta!

Vijeta’s coverage of world events has been my most trusted source of information and commentary in this area of reporting. I appreciate his extensive knowledge, in-depth information, and insights always presented with clarity and reasonableness. Thank you, Vijeta, and happy anniversary!

1. Vijeta is spectacular.
2. Well, time really does fly.

Thank you It certainly does. I am very grateful for your support and encouragement all these years.

Vijeta’s posts are always excellent and informative. I greatly appreciate his reporting from Europe. You really do need to have “boots on the ground” to fully discern and convey the cultural and political mood and winds, abroad.

I had no idea of his background but it comes through in the quality of his writing. Oh, he is a snappy dresser too.

Great writing and great subject matter. Happy anniversary.

Total thumbs up! Thank you.

have liked reading his content, congrats.
wtf is up with all the downvotes??
p*ssy that won’t speak up.

Vijeta, congrats on 10 years! You do great work for a great organization.

Vijeta your material is always solid and hits subject matter we would not see anywhere else.

Along with Nault and the other crop of newer faces, LI has certainly become one of the defacto sources for political analysis.

Honestly if you could get Andy Ngo on here, LI would surpass all other news outlets combined.

Thanks Vijeta.

Meinen Glückwunsch zum 10-jährigen Jubiläum…

One of your best writers, especially look forward to his take on the Middle East threats, ant to his insight into the Gaza War. Keep up the great work.

Thank you, Vijeta! Congratulations on tour anniversary.

I asked Perplexity how to pronounce your name so that I could pray for you properly. It said “vih-JEH-tah oo-NEE-yal”. Is that correct?

Vijeta Uniyal in reply to gibbie. | July 17, 2025 at 12:31 am

That sounds about right. One Hebrew publication transcribed my name as ‘O’Neill’. So your pronunciation is way better. 😄

Congratulations! As a reader, I especially appreciate your sensitive reporting of Oct 7th. In my mind, this was an assault on civilization … but it was also a collection of heart breaking tragedies for the families of the victims. You do good work, fellow.

October 7 came as a gut punch and changed my approach to the region. It confirmed our worst fears about the enemy we face –not just in Gaza. .

Thanking you for your words of encouragement and support. It will be an honor to keep reporting on the region for you!

Wow, it doesn’t seem like 10 years. Congratulations Vijeta, and thanks for your continued support of Israel.

Congratulations, Vijeta, on your tenth anniversary at Legal Insurrection! I appreciate your yeoman efforts. Here’s to many more years here!

Thank you. Indeed. It will be my pleasure to keep writing for you and our esteemed LI readers!

Thank you Vijeta. When’s the party? Tell Jacobson all 10th anniversaries need to be recognized. Top notch website because of all the talented people!
