‘Truth to Power’: Democrats Prove the Point in Salty Tribute Tweets to Stephen Colbert

‘Truth to Power’: Democrats Prove the Point in Salty Tribute Tweets to Stephen Colbert

“Thank you Stephen Colbert for your willingness to speak truth to power. Staying far from timid. And never bending the knee to a wannabe king.”

The Democrat/corporate media whineathon and conspiracy-mongering continue in the aftermath of news that longtime late-night TV talk show host Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” program has been canceled by CBS, effective May 2026.

When last we left you, it had been reported that the show was losing around $40 million a year, which, more than anything else, including alleged political considerations, would appear to explain why he, in essence, was handed his walking papers:

Puck News’ Matt Belloni reported the late-night show “has been losing more than $40 million a year” for CBS and that it had a budget of “more than $100 million per season,” contrasting it with network’s daytime and primetime programming, which he noted were “still profitable.”

“‘Late Show,’ with its topical humor and celebrity interviews pegged to specific projects, has struggled on Paramount+. And of the three network late-night shows, ‘Late Show’ has by far the smallest digital footprint on YouTube and other platforms,” Belloni wrote. “So from a business perspective, the cancellation makes sense.”

Belloni said the sources he spoke with at CBS and Skydance Media, the company that is set to buy the network’s parent company Paramount Global as part of an $8 billion merger, insist Colbert’s cancellation was “based on economics, not politics”….

Regardless, fauxfended Democrats are now on the case, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who appears to be conducting her own little investigation:

A bizarrely grizzled Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), who some have speculated is angling to run for president in 2028, is also just one tweet away from needing a wahmbulance:

Other Democrats, like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), failed 2024 Democratic vice presidential nominee and Gov. Tim Walz (MN), and twice-failed Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams, were also busy proving the points Colbert’s critics were making about how wildly partisan the show was being a likely contributor to its decline and staggering yearly financial losses:

Not explained in the “truth to power” messages was why Colbert routinely refused to speak “truth to power” to Democrats:

Then there was this “masterful” gem, from CNN media hall monitor Brian Stelter:

In response, some noted, among other things, how the word “funny” was in short supply among the Colbert tributes:

Further, this may explain the real reason why Liz Warren’s headdress feathers are so ruffled:

And here’s some food for thought:

If that doesn’t put the Democrats’ “priorities” in perspective, I don’t know what does.

let them whine

pam bondi will indict at least some of these pos who colluded ( probably WITH the ussr) against trump and the msm and their gang of savage communist thuggs

On this and the general mind set of the progressive ideologues that believe they are objective and on the right side of humanity, Turley’s last two pieces are on point.

“Politicians and Pundits Call for an Investigation into Colbert’s Cancelation”

“Indeed, the show had long ago traded the comedic stylings of prior guests like George Carlin and Don Rickles for the knee-slapping standups of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) and Sen. Adam Schiff (D., Cal.). As Joe Concha recently noted, Warren, 76, appeared 16 times during the show’s ten-year run.”

This one looks at the Colbert viewer:

“America’s Armchair Revolutionaries: How the Left is Rediscovering Marxism as the Ultimate Virtue Signal”

“We are now seeing the rise of a new generation of armchair revolutionaries who are calling for everything from the overthrow of the U.S. government to the seizure of factories and homes.

Democratic New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani personifies this new movement of young people lacking any memory of the failure of socialist and communist systems in the 20th Century.”

They are on their way to caricature. Now on the Kimmel!

We wish him well in his future endeavors (and he’s never heard from again)

He’s supposed to be a comedian. If he can figure out how to be funny, he might have a future. If not, I hope he banked some of that late night money.

Johnny Carson used to get some good digs on politicians too, but he was funny. Not mean. Big difference.

guyjones in reply to RITaxpayer. | July 20, 2025 at 1:06 pm

Another difference is that Carson dished it out to both sides of the political aisle.

Colbert’s, Jon Stewart’s, Seth Myer’s, Jimmy Kimmel’s and Jimmy Fallon’s consistently obnoxious, smug and rabid leftist partisanship only serve to amplify their arrogance and to alienate potential viewers and sponsors.

MajorWood in reply to RITaxpayer. | July 20, 2025 at 2:38 pm

As I kid I remember Carson doing a West Coast show and as Karmac he held an envelope to his head and said “Yorty,” which got a laugh as Yorty was current LA mayor. He then opened the envelope and said “what you call someone covered with Yorts.” That was classy political humor.

Don’t forget about the “Vac Scene”

He didn’t speak truth to power. He’s the mouthpiece of establishment democrats and their partners in the deep state. Why do you think a program that is a net drain on the network’s finances stuck around so long? Because the government enabled it.

He is a propagandist. A far cry from his stint on Comedy Central where he certainly had fun at the expense of conservatives, but at least it was funny.

He may have a future with SNL because SNL doesn’t do humor anymore either.

CBS spends a $100 million/year to produce a show about a guy sitting behind a desk who talks to people, plus it loses $40 mil/year, so CBS will cancel this loser, but first CBS will let it bleed out another 10 months.

In what universe does this make sense?

    The world of contract law?

DaveGinOly in reply to henrybowman. | July 20, 2025 at 9:09 pm

They’d save money by cancelling the shower and continuing to pay Colbert.
Or they could just reduce the show’s budget. It doesn’t matter that this may have a negative effect on the show’s quality. Nobody’s watching it already.

“Truth to Power,” LOL.

The vile Dhimmi-crat apparatchiks are so shamelessly dishonest.

The smug, insufferable and decidedly unfunny Colbert slavishly and dutifully promoted the Dhimmi-crat Party/Leftist line and Narrative(TM), 24/7.

That’s the opposite of “speaking truth to power;” it’s fecklessly and obsequiously promoting and advancing establishment power, given that Dhimmi-crats control most facets of American society — academia/schools; media platforms; corporate Boardrooms and C-suites; the federal judiciary; and local and state governments.

If Colbert had ever deigned to criticize narcissist-incompetent-dunce, Obama; crone-harlot, Harris; dotard-crime boss, Biden; or, any other prominent Dhimmi-crat standard-bearer or policy, then he might fairly be characterized as having spoken truth to power.

guyjones in reply to guyjones. | July 20, 2025 at 1:10 pm

Also, aren’t the Dhimmi-crats supposed to be anti-millionaire?

Colbert was paid obscenely and handsomely for his ten-year stint. He has amassed a nice net worth.

Why are the Dhimmi-crats suddenly concerned about his well-being? People are fired from their jobs every day of the week.

Some examples of truth to power:

“Elizabeth Warren, you are no Indian!”

“Pow Wow cookbook is a freaking joke!”

“High cheek bones? Ha ha ha.”

E Howard Hunt | July 20, 2025 at 1:22 pm

Nice gig. They paid this guy $20 mill a year to wear a suit and horn rimmed glasses to pretend he was smart and witty. He was the perfect product for ignorant, millennial mid-wits, but the party’s over.

If this can happen to Colbert then it could happen to anyone!!!

Well, yeah if you lose your company $40,000,000 a year

OwenKellogg-Engineer | July 20, 2025 at 1:32 pm

This should be the the retort:
His show was canceled because the liberal/left/progressive/Democrat-party was no longer getting the value that they have been investing into these programs. The ROI is no longer there. They always tout the message is not the problem, just the wrong messenger.

Scott Walker: “Only a socialist would think we need more of something fewer people are watching or paying for.”

Exactly. As Margret Thatcher famously remarked: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” If these crybabies think Colbert deserves and stay on the air because he’s so wonderful and important, then they should offer subsidize Paramount for the shortfall. If Paramount still refuses then they will have proved that the cancellation was political. But no they want to spend other people’s money to satisfy their wants.

MoeHowardwasright | July 20, 2025 at 1:44 pm

CBS just settled a lawsuit for manipulating an election by editing the response of Kameltoe. Colbert has been a non-stop “in kind” puff interviews of demonrats. Think maybe the lawyers told the board this might be a problem? Losing 40 mil a year to prop a demonrat operative. Great optics, not. Without all that ngo laundered money and now free campaign Q&A’s disguised as late night interviews, what’s a socialist politician to do?

They’re screaming that it was politics that took him off air, when it’s the exact opposite.

He was only STILL ON AIR because of politics.

No network in the US will put up with a show that loses $40 million a year for any length of time.

Colbert was at best an infomercial for the DNC. Like the others, they get canned when someone figures that they aren’t getting enough return for their investment. Like all whores, he is past his shelf life and will be replaced by someone younger and more convincing.

What I liked was how Stewart several years ago was basically telling Colbert to ditch the WuFlu BS, and Colbert was unable to take the hint. It was like watching one woman tell another “this guy is no good for you” and the second one thinking “but he says that i’m pretty.” As JR Ewing put it, “once you lose your integrity, the rest is simple.”

Some more info coming out now.

Supposedly when Letterman retired they hired Colbert to try and attract younger viewers.

When Letterman retired, in 2015, the average age of his viewers was 60.

10 years later, the AVERAGE AGE of Colbert viewers was apparently 68 years old.

As they die off, the show dies with them. Which is exactly why he started losing so much money.

henrybowman in reply to Olinser. | July 20, 2025 at 6:49 pm

Hey, they gained two years! 🥁
But seriously, I thought people were supposed to get wiser and more conservative with age…?

Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” program has been canceled by CBS, effective May 2026.
So that gives us 10 more months to not watch him.

BigRosieGreenbaum | July 20, 2025 at 4:07 pm

LOL Liz’s reaction. Glad she’s working so hard as a member of Congress; so proud!

Stacey: “ Each time, Stephen asked important questions and made sure to make us laugh.” Yes it is funny to try and get one over on the American people. Have a cookie or 10,000 Stace.

healthguyfsu | July 20, 2025 at 4:38 pm

Lol they are proving that he was a shill and they share a brain.

Colbert comes from a long line of TV hosts. Many lacked any real talent. Anyone remember Arthur Godfrey? He could strum the ukulele, and sell soap.

How about Jack Parr? He had some kind of acting career. Otherwise I don’t see what he could actually do by way of performing.

Steve Allen could compose songs, write books do comedy. His “The Question Man” was great. I used it to explain inverse problem in mathematics.

Examples. Answer: “Rank and file.”

Question: “What does it take to get out of an Army Jail?”

Answer: “Chicken teriyaki.”

Question: “Who was the longest surviving Kamikaze pilot?”

So Steve Allen was a TV host with real talent taking many forms.

I remember Ernie Kovacs who was a fantastic talent taking many forms.

Even among those who lack talent, Colbert stands out as perhaps the most talentless. Why anyone would pay him more than 10 cents escapes me.

Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT)

I want to explain to you what a censorship state looks like – where a corrupt government gives favors to media that suppresses criticism of the regime.

Senator Murphy, what do you have to say about the rodeo clown who got banned for life from the Missouri State Fair for wearing an Obama mask?

Given his hyper-partisan rhetoric, it would be interesting to hear what he had to say about that.

paulscott in reply to PostLiberal. | July 21, 2025 at 4:44 am

One wonders if he speaks “truth to power” if he said anything about Joe Biden’s comically obvious health problems *before* the Presidential debate.

It isn’t funny. It has a name in the UK, “Clapter Comedy”.

So you don’t make jokes. You make political statements that are possibly slightly amusing, but are often just political statements or abuse. The audience, which largely agrees with you, “laughs” at it.

it’s the equivalent of saying “Trump is a c-word”. One of our “comics” actually put this on a sign and held it up at an airport when Trump visited us and was lauded for her wit (seriously).

We have a politician whose name is “Jeremy Hunt” (a conservative). The “comedians” deliberately misspell his surname. This is apparently “funny”.

It’s not that it’s a bad joke ; every comedian gets it wrong. It’s that there’s no joke at all.
