Professor Glenn Reynolds: Trump 2.0 is a Wrecking Ball

The Big Beautiful Bill has passed, and the Make America Great Again agenda has essentially been codified.

In his latest article, Professor Glenn Reynolds discusses this legislative achievement and reminds us of his prediction that President Donald Trump would come in like a “wrecking ball.”

And he was right!

…With the passage of the “Big Beautiful Bill,” Trump has crushed a lot of Democratic dreams and plans, and — as I predicted right after the election — he’s also starting to lay an institutional foundation for Republicans.

The Big, Beautiful Bill is more big than it is beautiful, but the only way to get the changes that were needed through without a filibuster was through reconciliation. And the changes got through, and that is beautiful. It’s just the reality of our system that to get things done you have to buy votes.

Elon Musk, Rand Paul, Thomas Massie, et al. don’t like that, and they’re not exactly wrong not to like it, they’re just wrong to think that we could have gotten what was needed any other way.

As always, read the whole thing!!!!

I share their frustration, but passing the BBB was better than letting it fail.

White House charts show the lowest deficit under this new law in any of the next 10 years is $1.7T. That means at least $20T of additional Federal debt over that time period. IMO anyone who thinks this will have One Big Beautiful happy ending is kidding themselves.

Democrats are appalled at the thought that people should be allowed to spend their own money as they see fit. ALL money should be spent by .gov, with a reasonable 10% service charge/gratuity taken at the register.
