Massive Upgrade to DoD: Matthew Lohmeier Confirmed as Under Secretary of the Air Force

Former Air/Space Force Lieutenant Colonel F-15 pilot becomes #2 person in the Air Force, and Legal Insurrection couldn’t be happier

I’m sure you recall Matthew Lohmeier, the former Space Force Lieutenant Colonel squadron commander who was fired, forced to resign without a pension just before his retirement date, and subjected to a Pentagon Inspector General investigation after publishing his bestselling book, Irresistible Revolution: Marxism’s Goal of Conquest & the Unmaking of the American Military, which tore the lid off the military’s obsession with DEI and racist and radical “woke” ideologies.

As I reported here, Matthew Lohmeier – a Tour de Force Supporting our Military Members, Lohmeier spoke at an event I attended in June 2023 in Scottsdale, Arizona, produced jointly by Stand Together Against Racism and Radicalism in the Services (STARRS) and the Arizona Women of Action (AZWOA).

Lohmeier was dynamite and went into the gory details about the brazen DEI indoctrination inflicted on our service members during the Biden Administration years.

Matthew Lohmeier during his presentation:

Prior to that, we here at Legal Insurrection held a webinar in December 2022 about the impact of DEI at the Service Academies, and Matt was our guest speaker. That webinar, definitely worth watching, was entitled Saving the Military Service Academies from Wokeness, and can be viewed here:

Most recently, we noted that Matt Lohmeier met President-elect Trump on the campaign trail, and asked Trump to get rid of DEI policies in the U.S. military. Not only did Trump agree, but he also on the spot promised to appoint Lohmeier to a task force dedicated to doing just that: Trump to Appoint Matthew Lohmeier to Task Force Charged With Dismantling DEI in Military.
And in January of this year, we reported that President Trump went one better than that when he nominated Lohmeier to be the Under Secretary of the Air Force (the #2 guy): Trump Names Matt Lohmeier, Discharged From Space Force Under Biden for Denouncing DEI, as Under Secretary of the Air Force.
And now, Matthew Lohmeier has been confirmed and IS the #2 at USAF.

In a 52-46 vote, the U.S. Senate confirmed former Space Force Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier as the next under secretary of the Air Force. The vote came along partisan lines, with Republicans supporting Lohmeier’s nomination and Democrats opposing.

Sens. Katie Britt, R-Ala., and Andy Kim, D-N.J., did not vote on the nomination.

“Congrats to Hulett, Wyoming’s Matthew Lohmeier and family as he is confirmed by the US Senate to be Under Secretary of the US Air Force!” Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wy., wrote in a congratulatory tweet.

Lohmeier’s nomination was advanced to the full Senate by the Senate Armed Services Committee alongside several other military-related nominees in May. The committee did not release a full vote tally, only saying that Lohmeier’s nomination was reported “favorably” in a roll call vote.

A former fighter pilot for the Air Force and later the Space Force, Lohmeier was removed from service under the Biden administration in May 2021 after espousing concerns about the military’s embrace of Marxist ideology. The lieutenant colonel specifically criticized the force’s obsession with DEI racism and critical race theory.

Meanwhile, Gen. Stephen Whiting — who reportedly played a role in Lohmeier’s dismissal — was promoted to lead U.S. Space Force Command by President Joe Biden. Whiting has a history of using his position to advance DEI throughout the service, as The Federalist previously reported.

During his May 1 confirmation hearing, Lohmeier spoke about the importance of maintaining an “apolitical” military,” a belief he said “was one of the driving, motivating factors” behind his advocacy for such ideals following his separation from the force. Amid aggressive questioning from committee Democrats, he further emphasized that he was “never publicly critical of [his] chain of command [and] was never publicly critical of [his] senior leaders while [he] served in the uniform.”

“If confirmed, [I’m] very committed to making sure that we eliminate political distractions from the military workplace. Our service members and the American people truly deserve the opportunity to serve in a nonpartisan military workplace,” Lohmeier said.

The former lieutenant colonel also pledged to eliminate “all unnecessary distractions and enabl[e] military members to focus on their mission” — echoing sentiments previously expressed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to restore a “warrior ethos” to the Pentagon.

As under secretary of the Air Force, Lohmeier will serve under Air Force Secretary Troy Meink. The latter was confirmed by the Senate (74-25) in May.

Twitter responded appropriately:

Congrats Under Secretary Lohmeier and Godspeed!!

The Senate hasn’t confirmed even half of Trumps nominees yet

And Yrump needs to get moving on district judges. Where is Sen Thune
In all of this?

Correct me if I’m wrong but the problem is not Trump. Blue State Senators can put a hold on anyone nominated either to District Judges or State Attorneys and they have been doing it. It’s a “tradition” with no basis in either law or Constitution and Thine needs to end it.

Good pick. He’s young enough and experienced enough to have the vigor and the knowledge necessary to make a big difference. Wouldn’t mind seeing him move up to a role at DoD focused entirely on restoring core military functions v amorphous touchy feely crap, restoring tough realistic training/height weight PT to a single combat standard v gendered or by MOS and cutting out all DEI/CRT nonsense both official/unofficial, behind the scenes insistence on X # of females or Y # of minorities in any field/promotion/command selection.

When is Whiting going to be sent to the aleutians or aussie outback?

What comes around goes around, when will housecleaning be in full swing?

It’s justice served that he gets to serve his nation helping oversee the same military branch that tossed aside his military service (and pension) just for the sake of conformity to partisan politics.

As a further bit of justice – if delayed – I know some govt pensions are able to factor in military time served (even if your time served don’t qualify for a military pension) when determining a civilian govt pension amount. I suspect being an Undersecretary is one of those.

Failing that, if I were Trump I would – for this individual – or for any others robbed of pension eligibility close to qualifying by Obama / Biden admins because of insufficient conformity to wokeness – review their cases and allow them to join the reserves (and make up the required time in service) if their prior service was otherwise satisfactory.
