Yale Activists End Anti-Israel Hunger Strike Citing ‘Deteriorating Health Conditions’

Yale activists cease hunger strike citing ‘deteriorating health conditions’
Pro-Palestine Yale University activists have ceased their hunger strike protest efforts after ten days, with some citing physical problems such as weight loss and fatigue.
The Yale Daily News has reported that the protest officially ended on May 19, which initially began with approximately six students who were joined by a “growing” number of participants.
During the hunger strike, the organizer, Yalies4Palestine, demanded a meeting with President Maurie McInnis in hopes that the university would end its ties to Tel Aviv University and divest from Israel.
“With a heavy heart, yet out of precaution and due to deteriorating health conditions, we collectively decided to end the hunger strike,” Yalies4Palestine said in an Instagram post on May 24.
“Yale, we are ashamed that you would ignore the voices of your community to the extent of us needing to pursue an extreme action such as this strike,” the post continued.
On May 28, the group released another post saying that university administrators had been “harrassing” activists during their protest, including taking away chairs and forcing them to leave Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall, where McInnis has her office.
The protesters visited the building each day and held signs like, “I’m hungry for…” “Divestment,” “A Free Palestine” and “A Meeting with McInnis.”
One protester told the Yale Daily News that by the seventh day, she had lost 10 pounds.
Last month, university officials revoked the student group status of Yalies4Palestine over “disturbing” concerns about “antisemitic conduct.”

There is absolutely no second-order thinking among these people. It will all work exactly as they envision it in their heads, until it doesn’t.
Standards at Yale have really fallen. These strikers are too stupid to be there. What did they think happens when you don’t eat.
They thought it was still Peter Salovey’s administration that would have used them as an excuse to do what he wanted to do anyway, further wokification.
But Yale finally got rid of him. McGinnis it seems is much better (at least — it doesn’t take much to be infinitely better than Salovey.)
I’m all for actions like this ; hurt yourself instead of everybody else for once you selfish, attention seeking fools.

Anyone care to speculate that the poor child who threw a tantrum and refused to eat for a week then claimed to have dropped 10lbs could have stood to lose 50?

I have to wonder, what exactly did they think would happen to them if they refused to eat?
And if there were no negative physical consequences for conducting a hunger strike, what’s the threat that they’re trying to use to force action?
“If you don’t do what I want, I’m going to refuse to eat until I get hungry” isn’t much of a threat.
These aren’t brave fighters for a righteous cause, they’re spoiled 4 year old’s throwing a temper tantrum.
When my son was a baby he’d throw temper tantrums by banging his head against our carpeted floor. It never got him anything, but he was pretty persistent about trying it for a while.
Until one day he did it at a friend’s house…who had hard floors. That was the last time his tantrums ever took that particular form.
Eventually he figured out that tantrums weren’t going to get him what he wanted and grew out of them. Apparently these children were never taught that lesson so they still think the method is effective. I wonder if this event will teach them anything?

These are probably the same people who believe that hunting is bad because you kill animals and eat them. That’s cruel. You should buy meat at grocery stores. There are animal rights activists who actually believe that meat is created beyond the does behind butcher shops.
My mom told me long ago that one of my uncles, when he was young, did exactly the same thing until he tried it with a concrete floor. Same result.
When my daughter was ~seven she said she was going to hold her breath to get what she wanted. I calmly told her after she passed out her brain would make her lungs start working again. The point was made.
You don’t want to eat? Go for it, child. Maybe it will do you good if your weight is a few pounds high.

Most hunger strikes last at least 30 days. If this one only lasted 10 days, it shows a lack of commitment. This was just a performative gesture to get publicity.
More performance art and cosplay. The whole point of a hunger strike is that someone might die. They are committed to their cause. The theory is that once someone looks close to death or dies, the target of the protest will capitulate out of guilt. None of these people are committed enough to go that far or even go to Gaza to fight for their cause. It is solely performance art.
Typical self-important, brainless, leftist automatons: they think anyone gives a tinker’s damn about their silly causes. Newsflash: nobody does. All their self-destructive behaviors just prove what morons they are for ideological masters who use them as fodder.
