WH Slams CNN Report as ‘Fake News’ on Iran Briefings

The White House is strongly denying a CNN report that claimed President Trump only briefed Republican leaders ahead of the airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, calling the story “fake news” and demanding a retraction.

“This is Fake News,” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote on X. “The White House made bipartisan courtesy calls to Congressional Leadership and spoke to Sen Schumer before the strike. Rep. Jeffries could not be reached until after, but he was briefed. CNN please retract.”
CNN reported that “top Democrats were not told of his plans until after the bombs had dropped,” citing unnamed sources. According to the outlet, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries were only informed “shortly before the public announcement — and after the attack itself.”
Democrats reacted angrily, according to the now-disputed story. Sen. Mark Warner accused the administration of acting “without consulting Congress, without a clear strategy, without regard to the consistent conclusions of the intelligence community, and without explaining to the American people what’s at stake.” Rep. Sean Casten called the strike an “impeachable offense,” while Sen. Bernie Sanders labeled it “grossly unconstitutional.”

Despite the backlash, the White House maintains that bipartisan outreach was made in advance and continues to blast the report as politically motivated misinformation. As of Sunday evening, CNN had not retracted the story. Stay tuned as this is a developing story.

I suspect CNN is being petty and refusing to retract b/c they want to stick to the.claim that the HoR Minority Leader wasn’t reached and briefed prior…despite the WH attempts to do so. Communication is a two way street and holding a SR leadership position requires being available 24/7/365 to answer the phone for just such an event. If Jeffries can’t handle the responsibilities that come with his position it ain’t on the WH. In the end CNN is gonna and up making Jefferies and themselves look worse.

I’m in London. I’ve been here since Friday. It has been AMAZING (in the worst possible way) to watch recent events unfold on British TV. BBC makes CNN seem balanced, fair…even right-of-center. What is remarkable and quickly identifiable is there is the same deepening chasm between working people and the aristocracy which controls the country that we see in the US. Normal people (native Brits) largely seem to understand the existential threat immigration is to them and have favorable, or at least sympathetic views of Trump. Conversely, the contempt BBC, the ‘Crown’ and the sea of migrants have for Trump’s America is palpable.
Oh, and there’s a protest today of some Palestinian organization. It’s clear (even to this Gentile), if you’re a Jew in this country – particularly in London, but possibly in other areas – it’s simply not safe for you here. The sheer number of Jew-hating Muslims in this city cannot be comprehended by the American mind. It is stunning to watch this event unfold.
