Sports Twitter was on fire last night after Olympic legend Simone Biles went after women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines in a heated exchange over the inclusion of trans athletes in girls’ sports. Gaines and her supporters didn’t hold back.
According to the New York Post, the spat kicked off after Gaines responded to a Minnesota high school softball team’s state championship win. The team included a transgender player, pitcher Marissa Rothenberger, who helped deliver a shutout in the title game.
Biles blasted Gaines on X for criticizing a Minnesota softball team that included transgender player Marissa Rothenberger.
The pitcher threw a shutout and helped bring a state championship home to Champlin Park High School.
“To be expected when your star player is a boy,” Gaines wrote in response to a photo of the team celebrating the winning season.
Simone Biles quickly jumped in with this post:

Simone Byles is entitled to her opinion, but she never had to compete against a trans woman, so her opinion is highly limited unlike Riley Gaines. Quite likely Byles would have lost and been known as silver medalist while the transwoman was celebrated as the GOAT. Byles is lucky to have competed in a time before the flood gates of trans athletes opened. What she is advocating for is the end of women’s sports and fair competition. If that’s what she wants then she is certainly not a role model to little girls.

The irony is Biles competes in (arguably) the only sport where men are at a physical disadvantage in most of the female gymnastic disciplines, with the floor exercise perhaps being the lone exception. IOW, female gymnasts are probably the last group of female athletes who have to be worried about being displaced by psychotic men pretending to be girls.
Vault is the one event women would probably lose to men.
As for floor exercise it would depend upon whether men’s or women’s rules were used. Women exercise is definitely more artistic. Men’s is more power based.

All of the judging in gymnastics has switched over to including degree of difficulty for tricks and routines, so the women would have start scores much, much, much lower than the men and they wouldn’t be able to make up the difference without the audience losing all interest in the whole thing (as was happening with ice skating when the cheating judges came to light).

So they took some professional gymnasts, male and female and had them do each others exercises.
The men did the women’s exercises handily. Even sometimes better having greater strength to propel them higher and faster.
The women could do the men’s routines, but not with the dexterity of the men.

There’s a pretty wide gulf between men’s and women’s gymnastics, with the exception of Vault. You’re not going to see Biles on the rings any time soon and most male gymnasts don’t train for the type of flexibility you need in women’s gymnastics so there’s no “threat” in women’s gymnastics of a male who has gone through puberty competing against her. In other words, it’s safe for her to make these asinine comments because there’s about zero chance she’d ever have to compete against a man.
As a gymnast, Biles’s events are judged, not measured. If she ever competes against a male gold medalist, the judges would favor her.
