Professor Jonathan Turley Throws Cold Water on Dem Plans to Impeach Trump Over Iran

“Obama, in 2016 alone, dropped over 26,000 bombs on countries ranging from Somalia, to Syria, to Afghanistan, to Iraq.”

Professor Jonathan Turley of George Washington University appeared on the Ingraham Angle last night and basically laughed off Democrat threats of impeaching Trump over the actions he has taken in Iran.

AOC and other Democrats are already chomping at the bit to go after Trump on this.

FOX News reported:

AOC, other angry Democrats, call for Trump impeachment over attack on Iran

Progressive champion Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a handful of other Democrats quickly floated the prospect of impeaching President Donald Trump for launching a military strike on Iran without Congressional authorization.

“The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers,” the four-term congresswoman from New York wrote on social media Saturday night, soon after the president announced the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Ocasio-Cortez charged that Trump “has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”

Democrat Rep. Sean Casten of Illinois also argued that the president’s order to bomb Iran’s nuclear sites without seeking Congressional approval could be considered an “unambiguous impeachable offense.”

Turley points out that if Democrats try to impeach Trump over this, they are going to be busy impeaching a lot of other presidents while they’re at it. Watch:

Professor Turley wrote about this at The Hill just two days ago:

If he wages war unilaterally, Trump will only be the latest of many presidents to do so

Fourteen years ago this week, I represented a group of bipartisan members of Congress in challenging the Obama administration’s decision to attack Libya without a declaration of war.

It is a curious anniversary of the litigation, because many of the politicians and pundits who supported (or remained silent on) the action of President Barack Obama are now appalled that President Trump is considering an attack on the Iranian nuclear facility at Fordow, which is buried deep in a mountain.

Later, some Democratic members would move to expand presidential powers to launch attacks without approval. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), the drafter of the current legislation to limit Trump’s authority, drafted legislation in 2018 to put the authorization for use of military force on virtual autopilot. That was during the first Trump administration, and I testified against that legislation as a virtual authorization for “endless war.”

In 2011, Obama approved a massive military campaign that not only attacked Libya’s capital city but also armored columns of the Libyan military. The clear intent was regime change supported by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who also rejected the need to consult with Congress, let alone secure approval before launching a massive attack on another nation.

Even Senator John Fetterman agrees that this impeachment idea is DOA:

Since when do the Dems need a reason to impeach Trump?

Champing at the bit; not chomping at the bit!

Pam Bondi needs to wake up and go after AOC for immigration fraud vis-a-vis her brother.

Turley’s mistake is making a rational argument against the insane clown posse.

Come on…. let’s be indiscriminate! AOC needs some attention….

Such a bunch of f’g morons and don’t get me started on their voters.

The last time congress declared war was WW2. If AOC is arguing any military actions since are illegal… good luck.

Let’s see… the Ds are bitching about something Trump has done and calling for impeachment… must be a day of the week that ends in “y”….

Alan Dershowitz covered a US president’s Article II powers to make war in detail in a podcast yesterday. No a president does not need any kind of “authorization” from Congress to make war. Presidents have made war all the way back to Jefferson and the Barbary Pirates without Congress. Anyone making arguments to the contrary simply reveals his ignore of history and law. Jefferson also understood the menace of Islam, something our modern politicians lack. Dershowitz remarked that Congress will probably never formally declare war again.

How could a president make a surprise attack on an enemy with Congressional authorization, as the plan would almost for sure leak to the enemy? AOC simply reflects her dumb Third World constituents. Her Congressional district is full of foreigners, and welfare recipients. Check out statisticalatlas dot com, which provides copious demographic, income and other data for any Congressional district. Then one can easily understand who votes for her. Someone who lacks even the most basic understanding of law, government. finance and economics.

Wow.
Trump used a mere 75 munitions on Iran.
That rates him as “Mostly Gandhi.”

In an example of stupid Democrat tricks that came back around …

    Ha ha ha!
Biden: “Executive privilege remains with the office, not with the man”
    Trump: “Your terms are acceptable.”

Let’s bring articles of impeachment against Obama for his bombings and see how many democrats vote yes.

Most Congress critters don’t want to impeach any POTUS for attacking foreign countries without a declaration of war. Not having to declare war means you can blame the POTUS when the war goes sideways. Those calling for impeachment over Trump’s Iran attack don’t understand that allowing a POTUS to call the shots is a feature, not a bug.
