NY Times: DNC Plagued by Chaos, Infighting, and Quickly Going Broke

Even after the departure of David Hogg as vice chair, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is being plagued by infighting and chaos, according to a new report from the New York Times.
Even worse, the party is allegedly going broke and may have to borrow money just to continue simple day to day operations.

Just months into the tenure of a new party leader, Ken Martin, the Democratic National Committee’s financial situation has grown so bleak that top officials have discussed whether they might need to borrow money this year to keep paying the bills.
Fund-raising from major donors — some of whom Mr. Martin has still not spoken with — has slowed sharply. At the same time, he has expanded the party’s financial commitments to every state, and even to far-flung territories like Guam.
Fellow Democrats are grumbling that Mr. Martin, who quietly accepted a raise after taking the post, has been badly distracted by internal battles. So far, they say, he has been unable to help unite his party against Republicans, who control the federal government.
A protracted and public fight with David Hogg, the 25-year-old activist turned D.N.C. vice chair who blindsided party officials with a plan to challenge incumbent Democrats, made things worse. The clash included the leak of embarrassing audio of Mr. Martin questioning his own role and ended in Mr. Hogg’s unceremonious exit this month…

His commitment to state parties, which amounts to $1 million in monthly spending, has further strained the finances.
It’s very easy to understand why donors are not lining up to hand over their cash to the DNC. The Kamala Harris campaign spent upwards of two billion dollars on the 2024 campaign and still came up short. In the weeks following the election, accusations flew about gross acts of misspending and consultants raking in large amounts of money.

So, not only are they very reliant on big donors, even as they try to paint the Republicans as the party of billionaires, but the DNC also has a bunch of insiders leaking to the Times. Is that an effort to hurt/take down Martin? Any which way you slice it, it doesn’t sound good.
Martin said it wasn’t their plan at this point to borrow and he insisted their grass-roots fundraising was strong.
He also started a new streaming show on YouTube, “The Daily Blueprint,” that the Times described as having “high-end production.” But it’s gotten very little viewership, with some shows getting fewer than 1000 views. Yeesh, that’s awful. You aren’t doing much reaching out if you can’t even draw more people than that.
That last part is important and correct. I went to YouTube and checked out the channel. They have quite a few videos, some of which even feature former President Obama, that have less than a thousand views.
That would have been unthinkable a decade ago.

Dems are still waiting for criminal prosecutions to hit full stride. As I have pointed out before, the party may well not survive. That is something they deserve for their crimes.
Another story about how the DNC is going broke. We’ve seen these stories for years, yet they’re always well-funded come election years (and have more money than the GOP). There are plenty of back channels that will fund the DNC when they get what they want. They wanted Hogg out and a few other adjustments. When they get what they want, the DNC will be aflush with cash in time for the midterms.
Hopefully the changes at USAID will help keep the Dems broke. I have come believe that was were the majority of their funding was actually coming from. Rich Dems don’t donate their own money but they are glad to use yours.
You are correct. It isn’t spending or fundraising that is driving them broke. It’s that Trump shut of the money train from the federal government.
There are plenty of rich progressive billionaires who donate millions if not hundreds of millions to dramacratic candidates. They just don’t do it through the DNC. There are new ones popping out of the woodwork each election along with the old reliable ones.
There are progressive triggers guaranteed to raise money. Trump is one. Abortion is another.
Hopefully investigations into their past diversions of public money will put a bunch of them in jail.
You have the same tired people using the same tired playbook that most have become sick of. And their so called up and comers are a complete disaster of woke politics which has become radioactive. I don’t believe I have seen either party in such disarray in living memory. And they can’t stop beating themselves!

Few have much doubt that USAID cut and the DOGE grim reaper of dark money to NGOs are to credit for this. All of those contracts for 300k to do 10 minutes of work were funneling money to someplace…
DOGE needs to keep going. That is the first step to draining the swamp.
