Israel Intensifies Strikes on Hezbollah, Hits Underground Terror Sites in Southern Lebanon

The Jerusalem Post: “The IDF has shifted its focus back to southern Lebanon, where it continues to target Hezbollah infrastructure.”

Less than three days after concluding its strikes on Iran’s nuclear weapons program, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is intensifying counterterrorism operations against the Tehran-backed Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

“The IDF has shifted its focus back to southern Lebanon, where it continues to target Hezbollah infrastructure, after the Israel-Iran War concluded last week,” the Jerusalem Post reported Thursday. “These targeted strikes by the Israel Air Force, supported by intelligence units, reflect an escalation in Israel’s efforts to disrupt the operational capabilities of Hezbollah and Iran’s proxy forces,” the newspaper observed.

On Friday, Israeli fighter jets struck at least a dozen Hezbollah sites near the country’s border with Lebanon. “The IDF Air Force on Friday launched strikes on South Lebanon’s Beaufort mountain range targeting an underground Hezbollah command center,” the Israeli news website Ynetnews reported. “According to reports from the area, at least 12 strikes hit the area around the village of Tebnit. Explosions were heard on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon area.”

The strikes were reportedly aimed at Hezbollah’s underground bases and tunnels, which Hezbollah was trying to rebuild and weaponize following Israel’s ground offensive in southern Lebanon in October 2024.

Videos posted on social media show secondary blasts in the area following the Israel strikes, suggesting that Hezbollah’s weapons stockpile was also hit.

“A short while ago, IAF fighter jets struck a site used by the Hezbollah terrorist organization to manage its fire and defense array in the area of the Beaufort Ridge in southern Lebanon,” the IDF announced Friday afternoon.

“This site is part of a significant underground project that was completely taken out of use following IDF strikes. The IDF identified rehabilitation attempts made by Hezbollah beforehand and struck terror infrastructure sites in the area,” the IDF added. “The presence of this site and the attempts to re-establish it constitute a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”

Friday’s strikes came after a covert IDF operation against a Hezbollah terror base being built near the Israeli border.

“Last night …, during a special IDF operation based on prior intelligence, a structure in the area of Houla in southern Lebanon was dismantled,” the IDF disclosed Thursday evening. “The structure was used by the Hezbollah terrorist organization for military activity, including attempts to gather intelligence on IDF troops.”

“The structure was also the residence of Ahmad Ghazi Ali, a Hezbollah terrorist who was eliminated last week in the same area after he was identified attempting to re-establish Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure in the area,” the IDF revealed.

IDF Spox on operation ‘Rising Lion’: We ‘met all its objectives, exceeded them’

The IDF spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin, on Friday, released the details of the damage caused to Iran’s nuclear program and missile production capabilities during the recently concluded Operation ‘Rising Lion.’

Citing the IDF spokesman, The Jerusalem Post reported that Israel had “targeted thousands of centrifuge production sites as well as other facilities used to produce components needed to produce a nuclear bomb.”

“The IDF struck over 30 facilities relating to missile production throughout Iran,” the newspaper added. “The strikes set back missile production, particularly of long-range missiles, through the targeting of navigation systems factories.”

The Israel National News reported IDF spokesman’s assessment:

IDF Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin on Friday presented the official summary of Operation Rising Lion against Iran.

According to Defrin, Israeli intelligence discovered that the Iranian regime had been working to double its missile stockpile within a short timeframe while making dramatic strides in its nuclear program. The IDF assessed that this was not a theoretical concept, but an operational plan—one that included a multi-front assault and even a planned ground invasion into Israel: “a plan written clearly in black and white.”

He stressed that Israel launched the operation with the understanding that there was no other choice. “The strike began with complete surprise — launched from 1,500 kilometers away,” targeting nuclear sites, knowledge centers, senior figures in Iran’s defense establishment, and critical infrastructure in its nuclear project, Defrin explained.

Targets struck included: the underground uranium enrichment facility at Fordow, which was hit by the US; the central enrichment site at Natanz; and the conversion facility in Isfahan.

Additionally, the IDF attacked dozens of research and production facilities, destroyed thousands of centrifuges, and damaged systems supporting nuclear core production.

The operation also included the elimination of senior nuclear experts to prevent further development of the nuclear weapons system. More than 30 missile industry sites were struck, and over 50% of Iran’s launch platforms were destroyed. “Launch capabilities were pushed eastward, and the regime’s potential to produce thousands of missiles was cut off,” Defrin stated.

The Israeli Air Force also struck Iran’s air defense network, reportedly destroying over 80% of the systems in active zones. “The IDF had complete air superiority over Iran—an unprecedented level of operational freedom,” said Defrin.

“The IDF met all its objectives—and even exceeded them,” he concluded, stressing that, “The immediate threat was removed,” and that Israel created strategic space for both itself and the world. “This is a clear message to all our enemies: We will not tolerate threats to our existence.”

put oct 7 on allll the missiles hitting those blmplo sites

Hmmm… Hezbollah has been dependent on Iran for both funds and arms.

I wonder how their supply chain and cash flow are doing now?

Oh, and a side note:

“The IDF identified rehabilitation attempts made by Hezbollah beforehand and struck terror infrastructure sites in the area…”

Perhaps I am overdoing my interpretation of the meaning of this sentence, but it leaves me with the impression that the IDF identified the construction sites and then waited until they were nicely finished and stocked with weapons before destroying them. A nice touch costing Hezbollah even more than if the sites has been struck during construction.
