Newark, NJ, Mayor Arrested After Storming ICE Facility

Newark, NJ, Mayor Arrested After Storming ICE Facility

The mayor and three members of Congress invaded the facility without permission.

Authorities arrested Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for allegedly trespassing and ignoring warnings from the feds to leave an ICE facility.

The facility holds alleged violent criminals, such as MS-13 gang members and child rapists.

“Baraka reportedly entered the federal facility without authorization and refused to leave when ordered,” reported Shore News Network. “Homeland Security Investigations issued repeated directives for the mayor to remove himself from the premises, which he allegedly ignored.”

Fox News reported that the City of Newark filed a lawsuit against GEO Group, alleging “it failed to permit entry to safety inspectors and violated city construction code, including by conducting electrical and plumbing renovations without proper oversight.”

Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba wrote on X:

The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon. He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.

Baraka and three New Jersey congresspeople stormed the Delaney Hill ICE detention center on Friday.

Reps. Rob Menendez Jr., Bonnie Watson Coleman, and LaMonica McIver demanded officials allow them “to conduct an ‘oversight visit,'” according to Fox News.

“These members of Congress storming into a detention facility goes beyond bizarre political stunt and puts the safety of our law enforcement agents and the detainees at risk,” DHS told Fox News. “Members of Congress are not above the law and cannot illegally break into detention facilities. Had these members requested a tour, we would have facilitated a tour of the facility. This is an evolving situation.”

It depends on the level of jurisdiction the feds have over the property. Federal jurisdiction over property can range from proprietary interest only (as merely the owner or lessor) to having exclusive jurisdiction over the property, with several grades of of shared jurisdiction between those two levels. Everything past the first grade mentioned above has to be based on an agreement between the feds and the state within with the federal insular possession resides. Which is to day, with the necessary agreement in place, it’s possible the premises is exempt from some or all state laws and regulations.

Huh, pushing past security, ignoring commands to exit and members of the group trespassing in an unauthorized Federal area scuffle with LEO in an attempt to interfere with the operations of a Branch of Federal Gov’t? Seems very much like the J6 ‘insurrection’ if we apply the same criteria so ….no whining when/if these folks get run through the same sort of overreaching law fare gauntlet as the J6 folks.

Is it their turn to sit in jail for 4 years (or more, because I don’t think they will get a POTUS sympathetic enough to pardon for 12-16 years)?

On the note of prosecuting….. Trump should also resume federal charges and prosecution against all those Portland antifa members who sieged the federal building in PDX.

You know those are the same domestic terrorists behind half the stuff going down right now.

The congressmen belong behind bars as well.

I guess someone needs to explain that their “Oversight Authority” typically doesn’t go beyond the committee room door. It certainly doesn’t extend to forcing you way into secure facilities.

My question is why is only the Mayor under arrest? They should have charged the Congress Critters as well.

HSI wanted to send a message to mischief-making sanctuary city mayors.

If the Congresspersons had been arrested, it would have inspired countless congressional copycats who have collective strength as colleagues. Mayors, on the other hand, can be picked off one by one. There’s less collegiality among them so it’s harder for them to present a unified front. They all have skeletons in their closets, of course, and the good guys on the hill can stick it to the mayors without fear of what goes around comes around.

These Congress critters aren’t protected by the “Speech and Debate” clause when they aren’t in the well of the house. I guess at some point it’s FAFO.

The ‘speech and debate clause’ is not an issue here. They pushed into a facility during a prisoner transfer/arrival distracting and causing chaos that interfered with operations. Additional footage is out showing the Female member of Congress in red aggressively/violently pushing/shoving personnel, then body checking (like hockey) two separate ICE officers. More footage allegedly forthcoming which is claimed to show the same member ‘body slam’ a female ICE agent. She at minimum committed multiple felonies of assault on LEO + trespass + obstruction. Arrest and prosecute at minimum.

It’s nice to know that it’s Friday and these Congress critters and the mayor don’t have jobs they have to be at, so they can be playing Che Guevara at the Bastille, looking to release the poor illegal alien rapists, murderers, and gang-bangers.

Rob Menendez is the cherry on top, though. He’s just trying to be a big enough PITA so that someone slips him a gold bar or two to shut up and go away for a while.

setting up maga!!

same way they lied about trumps crimes

while they were in fact/actually committing crimes

now they are getting arrested for once again actually committing crimes

and then they will use that as the pretext to arresting gop pols that they merely disagree with and/or make up charges for while they say ..

welll they arrested our mayors etc first..so we are justified

That sound you hear is the shattering of the social contract where the same law is supposed to apply to everyone.

Baraka’s father, originally named LeRoi Jones, was quite a piece of work. Please see this.

Notice that the continued lawlessness across America is practiced only by demonrats.

Late to comment, but where were these Congress members on January 6? Did any of them ever make an oversight trip to the DC jail and how those people were treated?

How many times were congressional Republicans denied access to ICE facilities on the border?

Too many to count. Ted Cruz was denied multiple times
