Network Coverage of Defense Sec. Pete Hegseth Was 100% Negative in Trump’s First 100 Days

From the moment Pete Hegseth was nominated for Secretary of Defense by Donald Trump, you could tell that Democrats and their media allies wanted to take him down. During his confirmation hearings, he faced ridiculous questions from people like Senator Elizabeth Warren and even Hillary Clinton tried to smear him.
New analysis from the Media Research Center shows that during Trump’s first 100 days in office, the major news networks have given Hegseth 100% negative coverage. Every single report they have done on him has been an attack of some kind. That’s not media bias, it’s media weaponization.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth laid into legacy media outlets after data compiled by The Media Research Center (MRC) revealed that he had received 100% negative coverage from the three major networks: ABC News, CBS News, and NBC News.
Hegseth responded to the report with a post on X showing the tone of his coverage compared to that of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) adviser Elon Musk — who received 89% negative coverage and 96% negative coverage, respectively.
“In case you wonder what we — and President Trump — are up against. 100% NEGATIVE coverage from so-call[ed] ‘mainstream’ press in the first 100 days. PERFECT SCORE,” Hegseth quipped. “(Come on @RobertKennedyJr & @elonmusk, you guys can do better!)”
Hegseth offered a guess as to why the coverage was so overwhelmingly negative when he spoke at Wednesday’s cabinet meeting, where he told the president and other members of the administration, “We’re controversial because we’re OVER the target!”
It’s good that Hegseth can have a sense of humor about this.

There are a few reasons for this. First and foremost, Trump likes Pete Hegseth, so the media people at the cool kids table hate him reflexively. The fact that Hegseth worked for FOX News is another strike against him with these people.
Finally, military recruitment is going up on Hegseth’s watch after years of stagnation. That means that Trump could be right about Hegseth and he might be succesful in this role. Democrats and their media allies simply can’t have that.
Out of Trump’s entire cabinet, Hegseth’s is the scalp the left wants more than any other. The media’s coverage of him simply confirms this.
