Germany’s Intel Agency Designates AfD Party as ‘Extremist,’ Paves Way for Possible Ban
AfD officials made “xenophobic, anti-minority, Islamophobic and anti-Muslim statements,” spy agency cites as reason for the ‘extremist’ designation.

Germany has designated the country’s leading opposition party, Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), as ‘extremist,’ paving the way for a possible ban. The decision to classify the party was taken by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency Verfassungschutz, which operates under the country’s Interior Ministry.
“Germany’s domestic intelligence agency has designated the Alternative for Germany, the country’s second-largest political party, as a right-wing extremist group, a controversial step that could lead to the organisation being banned altogether,” the Belgian news website Euroactiv reported.
Banning the centrist AfD, Germany’s, most popular party, would be an extreme attack on democracy https://t.co/667V87lKSX

The decision to place an ‘extremist’ label on the party was based on “xenophobic, anti-minority, Islamophobic and anti-Muslim statements made by leading party officials,” the Verfassungschutz intelligence agency declared.
The measure is announced as the right-wing party leads most opinion polls. The AfD, which won 152 seats in the 630-seat parliament with 21 percent of the total vote in the recent election, is currently leading in nationwide polls with 26 percent — 2 points ahead of the Germany’s soon-to-be-ruling Christian Democratic (CDU) party.
Recent polls show AfD as the single most popular party in Germany. As John Hart Ely used to say, this looks very much like an attempt by AfD’s partisan rivals to close off “the channels of political change.” https://t.co/4NceO6hsFR pic.twitter.com/BPnfEV0nvX

German state TV Deutsche Welle reported:
Germany’s spy agency BfV has labeled the entirety of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party as an extremist entity.
The BfV, which is in charge of safeguarding Germany’s constitutional order, said Friday’s announcement came after an “intense and comprehensive” examination.
The designation gives authorities greater powers to monitor the party, with measures such as intercepting phone calls and using undercover agents.
The BfV said in its decision that the “ethnicity-and ancestry-based conception of the people that predominates within the party is not compatible with the free democratic order.”
It cited the “xenophobic, anti-minority, Islamophobic and anti-Muslim statements made by leading party officials.”
The party “aims to exclude certain population groups from equal participation in society, to subject them to treatment that violates the constitution, and thereby assign them a legally subordinate status,” the agency said.
The BfV has already designated the AfD in the eastern German states Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt as proven extremist groups.
The Verfassungschutz claimed that AfD’s hostility to Muslim migrants was one of the main reasons behind the ‘extremist’ designation, the French TV channel Euronews reported:
The office, also known as BvF, cited the AfD’s xenophobic stances on ethnicity as the reason for the decision, stating the party was being discriminatory towards non-ethnic Germans. (…)
This led the body to determine that the AfD “aims to exclude certain population groups from equal participation in society, to subject them to unconstitutional unequal treatment and thus to assign them a legally devalued status.”
It added that the far-right party does not consider people with “a migration history from Muslim-influenced countries as equivalent members of the ethnically defined German people.”
The AfD slammed the move as ‘politically motivated,’ the German state TV channel ARD reported:
Party chiefs Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla spoke of a “severe blow to German democracy.” (…)
“targeted interference in the democratic decision-making process [as a result of the designation] is clearly politically motivated,” Weidel and Chrupalla declared.
The AfD will continue to defend itself by legal means. Party vice-chairman Stephan Brandner spoke of a purely political “battle of the establishment parties against the AfD.” However, as an “unfair measure against the only opposition force,” it was to be expected.
The news comes amid a wider crackdown on popular right-wing parties by European courts and the ruling establishment. In March, Marine Le Pen, the leading challenger to President Emmanuel Macron, was banned by a French court from participating in the 2027 presidential race.

Our European partners don’t seem to have gotten the message yet. The USA cannot be ‘allies’ with Nations who ban opposition political parties for partisan and ideological advantages. The best thing they can do is pause these sorts of actions then go read the transcript of JD Vance speech that caused them such consternation by calling out their lack of commitment to uphold Western Legal and Cultural traditions necessary for modernity. Sooner or later these Nations will discover that refusing to be friendly towards the USA has resulted in the loss of friendship and the economic/military benefits that came with it.
And here they are, doing exactly what Vance told them would lead to their downfall. Most of Europe is committing suicide and not enough seem to care.

““xenophobic, anti-minority, Islamophobic and anti-Muslim statements made by leading party officials,””
If AFD does not prevail Germans will be in deep crap, becoming Muslim slaves. Islam is so toxic.
“When Muslims are in the minority they are very concerned with minority rights, when they are in the majority there are no minority rights,”
This is often attributed to Churchill. Evidence of that seems nonexistent.
Regardless, the truth of the statement is worth our attention.

We know that the quote in another form appears in Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune, a roman a clef about Muslims.
Through the ages [Maldoror] had believed that he was compounded only of good and a minimal amount of evil. Sharply I showed him, by laying bare in broad daylight his heart and life’s weave, that on the contrary, he is compounded mostly of evil and a minimal amount of good, which the legislators have difficulty managing to preserve. – Lautreamont
It’s the legislators trying to preserve good that you see.
By seeking to effectively ban a rival political party which just happened to have polled this week as the most popular political party?
Seems an odd way to preserve good by engaging in the totalitarian tactics they project onto their rivals.
Maybe you meant something else and could communicate more effectively if you presented your argument plainly and more straightforwardly without relying upon context clues and inferences of your chosen quotation?
The silver lining is that if Germany does ban AfD, it may result in our withdrawal from NATO.
TBH I think that the dissolution of NATO is a foregone conclusion. I suspect we will enter into either bilateral treaties or perhaps a new much narrower and more effective org of Nations. Probably centered on Poland, include the Baltic States, Hungary basically the remaining Nations in Europe who see the importance of maintaining their Western Traditions and culture to include free.speech, not banning populist political parties/movements and who want rock.solid relationships with the USA economically, militarily and diplomatically without significant protectionist trade barriers. We can’t continue to subsidize the defense of Nations who despise us, seek to harm our workers with high trade barriers, target our companies with extraterritorial regulations and then want us to secure the shipping lanes for them. We’ve nearly bankrupted ourselves doing it since WWII and last 30 + years post Cold War in particular. It is unsustainable and will end, one way or another. Hopefully on our terms before we go broke and enter an irreversible decline.
Western Europe is probably too far gone but France still seems willing not to completely roll over for unchecked immigration and the destruction of their culture/society. The British are at a crossroads and their geography as an Island may save them IF they put forth the effort to do so…but I doubt they will.
I hope not. Europe can put on its big boy pants and take care of itself, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Russian border. Our military/defense disengagement from Europe will do wonders to help avoid WW III, as the Europeans will have far less stomach for it without our support. That alone is worth the price of admission, or rather our non-participation in any facet of their defense.
Europe is no longer facing Russia and the Warsaw Pact. Indeed, the Warsaw Pact’s combat power didn’t just evaporate, it is now in the European sphere of military might. There’s no need for our presence there at all. Today, Russia is on the wrong side of the balance of power, or would be if European nations are forced to buck up and pay for the militaries that are necessary for their own protection. They now also control the manufacturing capabilities that once belonged to the Pact. They have no excuses for not taking care of themselves.
I am with you and understand everything up to the third sentence of the second paragraph. I’m not quite certain that Vladimir Vladimirovich is on the wrong side of the balance of power.
All I can see is a highly multi-facetted situation with one central problem: Islam; the rest is just typical European bickering.
FWIW I suspect Russia will end up aligned with the USA as a counter poise to China and and a wokiesta Western Europe slowly being overrun and erased by the unchecked immigration policies of their elites/ruling class. Whatever else Russia might be it ain’t willing to be erased without a fight which is in stark contrast to the actions of the German elites in seeking to silence the populist movement/party, AfD which opposes continuing to roll over and take it.
CC No, Just no. Let Western Europe and Russia destroy themselves or each other, Just don’t them in this country any more,
The US needs to consider the changing nature of our alliances.
Europe as a member of modern Western Civilization is nearly lost…speech, religion and privacy cannot be counted on as freedoms any longer.
Europe as a viable ally is questionable in the near future.
Want proof: Unfettered immigration, insane socialist ideologies and low domestic birth rates are fundamentally changing the nature of European culture. This is not xenophobia, it is a demographic fact. As an example, currently 41% of Vienna’s schoolchildren are Muslim. Austria is being forever transformed into a Muslim state at Austria’s own hand, and without even the need of assistance from Dr. Kevorkian…
Agreed. The remarks delivered by VP Vance and some.subsequent comments across the administration seem to point to restricting the status of ‘ally’ to those Nations who share/respect basic Western culture/legal.framework, compete fairly with us economically without banning/restricting our exports or high trade barriers, don’t seek to impose extraterritorial regulations on our companies (particularly tech) and who are willing to meet their own burden of defense spending. That rules out much of the EU and NATO as they currently exist.
Want proof: Unfettered immigration, insane socialist ideologies and low domestic birth rates are fundamentally changing the nature of European culture.
Mmmm. Maybe the United States needs to disengage with itself.
Well that’s one way to deal with political opposition. When the wrong people are right this is the way forward I guess. France beat them to it. When those in charge leave large numbers of citizens no other opposition, don’t be surprised when they take it.
Most of the major powers in Europe are now dictatorships, the end result of “pure” democracy.
The Nazis banned all other political parties while they were in power.
More relevantly, I think they claim to power by proscribing the communists using similar excuses.
The left has a history of embracing totalitarian rule to save the people from themselves.
“We must destroy democracy in order to save democracy”
– The left
Democrats are kicking themselves now that they didn’t think of banning the republicans when they were in power.
I kept wondering during Barkey’s reign or Obidens reign whether the Democrats would try to outlaw the Republican Party or any Conservative party that might pop-up. I think the only thing between them doing that or not is the 2nd Amendment.
Nah, the only thing stopping that is that getting a 3d party going is nigh unto impossible nowadays, and the 2d party (Republicans) wants to hang on.
Ross Perot really “fouled” the bed. He represented a good opportunity to found a significant third party but his ego destroyed it.
Left wing, right wing, it’s the same bird. They argue with each other in Congress and then go out together for drinks.
Or funerals, where the phoniness is more publicly apparent.
Not quite.
The RINO’s might be quite similar, but conservatives are not.
The universe is extremist. Principle of least action.
Hey, Germany, what are you afraid of?
.
FREEDOM!
The globalist elites are, as always, fearful that their utter contempt for the populists who.still believe in a Nation State, the importance of culture, social traditions and basics like secure borders and putting the needs of Citizens above everyone else, will lead to a massive change in power, throwing the grifting globalist out office like yesterday’s trash.
So they change the rules, incorporate new definitions, make new laws….any and everything to avoid a loss of power.
germany insuring that an uprising will occur so that they can then
get those immigrants to fight for them against the fuhrerland
how ironic
Banning political parties. Hmm….
Isn’t that something a notorious Austrian politician once did in Germany?
I have argued that if Trump is “dangerous” that would be no cause to not allow his candidacy for POTUS, as the American people have a right to elect a “dangerous” person if they choose to do so.
A similar argument supports the existence of the AfD. The German people have a right to elect “extremist” candidates (if that’s what AdD candidate are). To not allow them to do so is an insult to the concept of democracy.
However, that is also why we have structural impediments to the power of an “extremist” – the Constitution and separation of powers (among others). But both sides have to abide by it for that to work long term.
I’m still waiting for Bio Of A Space Tyrant to start taking shape (the final books about stripping away a pretend democracy and then letting the people get it back after you’ve demolished all of the corrupt institutions).
I had to look up this reference to see if it was real.
One has to question his faith in the entire concept of “good” representative government when it’s shamefully clear that it takes deux ex machina in the guide of “strongmen” (i.e., dictators) to periodically reset them.
As I posted elsewhere when a commenter asked why the Germans don’t “fight back” like the Americans have:
“In the USA, we are blessed in having on our side The Man Who Cannot Be Stopped, backed by The Man Who Cannot Be Bought. Without this fortunate, formidable combination, we would be as far into the s**ter as Germany by now, if not further.”
I had to laugh at all the people calling Trump dangerous and then calling his cabinet picks dangerous. That’s why I voted for the guy. I want a President who’s dangerous to our enemies. A President that’s not dangerous will get walked over like Biden was.
As I commented elsewhere earlier, “Trump is dangerous? I certainly hope so! That’s why I voted for him!”
I have this distant memory of this guy with a silly moustache, Adolf something or other, deciding that Communists were extremists and couldn’t take up positions they had won in elections.
However, for the life of me I can’t remember how that turned out.
These EU pukes have the temerity to lecture us about “democracy”.
Enjoy your caliphate, you sniveling freaks.
I think that we’ve seen this movie before. They tried to do it to trump. They tried to put him in jail, then they tried to take him off the ballot then they tried to kill him. In romania, they throw out elections because they don’t like the result. In France they do the whole disqualing qualifying the person who is leading in the polls at the time off of the ability to run for an extended period of time, way longer than necessary to throw the next election. Now this. All the same, just the execution is a little different. I wonder who’s really behind this?
WEF?
WEF is throwing out Schwab and having him and his family investigated for corruption.
What, did AfD burn the Reichstag?
Memo for German elites: In case you’ve forgotten your own history, when electorates are denied reasonable political alternatives, they eventually turn to unreasonable political alternatives.
