This is why no one takes the left seriously when they claim to support free speech. Republicans are simply not welcome anywhere near campuses.

ABC News reports:

South Dakota students weigh protest against university honors for Noem

Dakota State University hasn’t experienced the student protests taking place at other U.S. colleges. Nestled in rural South Dakota, most of the nearly 4,000 students have been focused on their studies or job hunts, avoiding politics and partisan groups.

Until now.

The university administration decided to award an honorary doctorate to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and invited her to give a commencement speech May 10, bringing politics to the campus.

In response, students have planned a rally on graduation day opposing the former South Dakota governor and the Trump administration and expect protestors from across southeast South Dakota to join them.

They want to speak out against the federal government’s immigration policies, which are being implemented with Noem’s oversight, on behalf of peers who fear for their legal status. They also are expected to protest Noem’s anti-LGBT actions during her time as governor.

Some students and faculty also said they thought the honorary degree was too high an honor to bestow upon her.

Among DSU students, many are unsure if they should join the objections or stay quiet to avoid the kind of punishments suffered by students at more outspoken colleges.

“The atmosphere is tense,” humanities instructor Daniel Spencer said. “Students are afraid of making their voices heard.”

Students studying in its renowned cybersecurity program have traditionally been hesitant to take political stances because they fear potential blowback when they later seek government and private sector jobs.

I salute her!!!

To high an honor? It’s DSU for god’s sake. It’s not as if it’s Harvard! Wait……

They are right to be concerned, employers do not want trouble makers. There are many students who will pay dearly for their actions.

Let them protest up to the point they are disruptive and/or violate school rules. If they do, discuss their continued association with the school. Let them decide their next move.

Once again a relatively small number of activists can generate a big time recruitment drive with the assistance of a credulous press, a few disgruntled faculty, and ineffectual campus leadership by the responsible adults. Resistance to radicalization is not censorship, nor simply a “freedom of speech issue”. Unless the wiser heads show up early and often the crazys may win by default.

It’s amazing how few outlets are reporting what the honorary doctorate degree is IN.
It’s in Public Service.
The woman was their elected governor, for heaven’s sake, and is now a Cabinet Secretary. Pretty sure her record of achievement in the field is beyond falsification at this point.
What’s next — denying Musk an Honorary MBA?
