Conclave Day 2: White Smoke! We Have a New Pope
The cardinals have two more votes today.

*12:10 PM ET: We have white smoke! The College of Cardinals has elected a new pope.
We will find out soon who it is. After the cardinal accepts his election, he goes to the “Room of Tears.” It’s called that because so many have cried after receiving the enormous responsibility of leading the Catholic Church.
He will put on the white papal vestments.
Once everything gets settled and ready, the senior cardinal deacon will declare from the central balcony of St. Peter’s, “Habemus papam!” (We have a pope!).
The new pope will emerge and give us his first papal blessing.

Previous post:
It’s day two of the conclave, where the College of Cardinals has been deciding on a new pope.
The 133 cardinals released the black smoke twice this morning, signaling they have not chosen a new pope yet.
A cardinal needs two-thirds of the majority to become the next pope.

The next two votes should happen at 11:30 AM ET (5:30 PM local time) and 1:00 PM ET (7:00 PM local time).
The conclave has averaged 2-3 days since Pope Saint Paul VI in 1963.

If they elect a black pope, and release white smoke, isn’t that racist? My DEI friends want to know.
Well I was wrong about the food. They aren’t getting gourmet meals. They also are getting anything like stuffed ravioli or roasted whole chicken for fear messages could be passed in the stuffing.
Considering the choices and the last social justice Jesuit I’m not hopeful.
At least this time around I hope they’ve elected a Catholic.
Pope Guido Sarducci!
He would ah e been better than the last
I just hope he’s Catholic
Well… Biden, Pelosi, Pope Francis, all claimed they are Catholic.
So, having said that, I hope the Pope is a real Catholic, not a Pope on a Rope “I’m OK with abortion, and taking money from some people to give to others.”
I hope they’re not just blowin’ smoke.
Trying to care…
Good luck, Catholics
We Have a New Pope
What you mean ”we’, kemosabe? 😉
I believe I speak for ALL the Protestants with that. 🙂
Having said that, I agree with all those saying they hope he’s really a Catholic, and not a Jesuit. Big Guy In A Funny Hat has way too much power in the world for anything else to be good.
WOW. Legit never thought I would live to see this day. I wish my mother could have seen this. My wife & I are in stunned silence.
Also, I don’t know much about Prevost. He’s an Augustinian, an order that has a reputation for splitting the baby, theologically, doctrinally and…politically.
I was hoping for orange smoke
It’s an American, which is interesting.
Robert Francis Prevost, Pope Leo XIV
A cardinal needs two-thirds of the majority to become the next pope.
They need 2/3 of the conclave. 2/3 of the majority would only be 1/3 (plus one) of the entire conclave.
The answer, my friends, is blowing in the wind.
In bocca al lupo!
