Biden’s Ill-Fated Gaza Pier Debacle Caused Over 60 Injuries to U.S. Military Personnel

Biden’s Ill-Fated Gaza Pier Debacle Caused Over 60 Injuries to U.S. Military Personnel

“The fact that more soldiers were injured than previously known is also a red flag. It illustrates that the previous US administration was not forthcoming about this failure and that no one spoke up at the time.”

I hate to bring up one of the most horrific aspects (for multiple reasons) of the Biden Administration, but surely you remember the complete train-wreck called the Gaza Pier, which we diligently reported on:

And there was other reporting in the general press that things were going horribly:

I could recount the entire, sordid history, but I’ll spare you. Except for this one video of the Gaza Pier porta-potties that encapsulates everything that was so horribly wrong with the Gaza Pier:

And now, after all this time, during which I had hoped to never think of the Gaza Pier again, the Pentagon’s Inspector General has released a thorough report explaining that over 60!!, yes 60!, military personnel, were injured during the Gaza Pier’s troubled existence.

From the Jerusalem Post: Gaza aid pier: Why 62 US troops were hurt in a mission that shouldn’t have happened – analysis:

A new report has revealed that the temporary pier the US military deployed to Gaza was more dangerous than previously known. The Pentagon’s inspector general’s office released a report that said a total of 62 people were injured during the deployment.

The pier, called Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore (JLOTS) was ordered by the White House to be sent to Gaza in March of 2024. It was supposed to help deliver humanitarian aid.

From the beginning, it was obvious this was a bad choice. The forces lacked training and equipment for the mission. The US Army is supposed to be responsible for the capability to deploy a floating pier.

However, the army watercraft for the mission was not ready.

The article then goes on to blame the U.S. Army, and not President Biden or even the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and his staff, but I’m not sure that’s the way it happened. It seems to me the most likely occurrence was that the Army did brief the Chairman and Biden, they told the Army to shut up and make it happen:

But instead of telling the Pentagon and the president that it was ill-prepared, the army went ahead anyway. This wasn’t a place and time for heroism. The US wasn’t fighting a war. This also wasn’t an aid mission to a hostile place. This was a mission to Gaza, which is controlled by Israel.

The article does make some more good points, though:

Therein lies the core question: why did the US need to send vessels thousands of miles across an ocean, which took months to reach Gaza’s coast, carrying humanitarian aid that could have been delivered by trucks across the border?

Israel at the time had cut off most of the land crossings to Gaza. If the US wanted to send aid, why didn’t it just make an arrangement with Israel to deliver it via trucks from Ashdod? In fact, that is what eventually happened. The pier was not necessary. Nevertheless, it set sail and was erected in May but only functioned for a few weeks due to bad weather.

It turns out that there was no real study conducted to see if weather conditions and Gaza’s coastline were appropriate for the mission. A report at Marine Executive noted that “In addition, the Army and Navy pontoon systems were different and resulted in damage when used together.

“They were designed with different amounts of freeboard, and Army boats would ram into and puncture the sides of taller Navy pontoons. After challenges experienced in a previous exercise, the services had concluded that these systems could not be used together – but they were still deployed and combined for the operation off Gaza.” [See good picture of this damage in IG Report, below]

The long list of problems makes it clear how badly this mission was planned…

There should be many lessons learned here. The US should not send soldiers on missions that they are not ready for, unless it is absolutely necessary…

The fact that more soldiers were injured than previously known is also a red flag. It illustrates that the previous US administration was not forthcoming about this failure and that no one spoke up at the time.

No kidding.

You can review the entire 94-page Pentagon IG Report here.

This is one of the most infuriating occurrences of my lifetime, perhaps mostly because I am sure then-President Biden didn’t give a tinker’s damn about the fate of the U.S. military personnel who were tasked to get injured and die operating this clusterf**k.

So for the leftists, “deferred” means forever (as in DACA), and “temporary” means about 5 minutes.

Demspeak is a true mystery.

The length of time that the pier was active and the pier’s efficacy are totally irrelevant, in my view — what’s noxious and outrageously indefensible is the notion of the U.S. giving succor and aid to a terrorist regime and its “civilian” cohort who murdered and kidnapped American citizens, and, our ally’s citizens.

The very notion of the pier, itself, is grossly treasonous.

The Army wasn’t ready to deploy JLOTS for a mission that wasn’t really necessary.
$230 million spent, 20 days in operation, 62 soldiers injured and one dead.
Not one field or flag grade officer held responsible.
Former SecDef, former Chairman of the JCS, and former POTUS are unaccountable and MIA.
And we’re just now finding out how bad it was.
Think you despise Biden’s administration? You don’t despise them nearly enough.

    Again I ask:

Who was operating Joe bidens auto-pen?

I think this is important to know. Who was running the country?

The unsuitability of the equipment assembled for the task was evident at the time.

Sal Mercogliano at What’s Going on With Shipping? (YouTube channel), a former merchant mariner who was actually part of the Pentagon’s JLOTS management at one time, describes in some detail what equipment was used and why it was unsuitable for the mission as planned.

This video aired while the pier was deployed. This guy demonstrates there was no need for a ‘study’ of the scenarios. He’s now a naval historian and YouTuber and was able with his own resources to describe the problems with the plan and put together an alternate scenario. My take from watching the video at the time was that the primary cause of the failure was the Biden administration insisting “no boots on the ground” which meant that the equipment could not be deployed in the way it was intended. That would have required dedicated and trained people, i.e. US soldiers and sailors, on shore to properly prepare and manage the installation.

So the pier was operational for about 20 days, and injured over 60 soldiers. At least we saved the salary of the guy whose job it would’ve been to change the numbers on the “zero days since a work related accident” sign.

What a despicable, feckless and indefensible stunt this was– dotard-crime boss, Biden — really, his chaperones/puppeteers/minders — obsequiously kowtowing to and pandering to goose-stepping, Jew-hating Muslim supremacists and Islamofascists in Michigan, Minnesota and elsewhere in the U.S., by ordering the U.S. military to give succor to the Gazan Arab invaders from Arabia who murdered and kidnapped U.S. and Israeli citizens, and, took hostages from both countries.

First time in American history that a U.S. president ordered the U.S. military to provide aid to terrorists who killed and took American hostages. That’s the vile, evil and stupid Dhimmi-crats’ way of doing things.

guyjones in reply to guyjones. | May 12, 2025 at 8:38 am

The only things that the U.S. military should have delivered to Gaza were a cruise missile and/or smart bomb strike on appropriate targets, and, a special forces insertion to rescue American hostages.

what i find most amazing is the 94-page Pentagon IG Report.
it took that many pages and how many man-hours to prepare a report that essentially said —

Just another example of the previous administration’s gross ineptitude.

Nothing to see here, folks; move along.

And could anyone here imagine what the Biden regime would have done to anyone who had the audacity to tell Joe that they “weren’t prepared” to fulfill his lame-brained Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore (JLOTS) scheme? They’ed be skinned alive and replaced by some other lackey that would do exactly what the Biden regime ordered without hesitation. Because Joe didn’t appoint people for their brains, he appointed them to be his, “Yes Men” and nothing more.

destroycommunism | May 12, 2025 at 10:03 am

lefty doesnt build success

they tear it down

destroycommunism | May 12, 2025 at 10:04 am

had the pier worked out

the admin would have touted it as the first

all female built trans engineered success in the military

It wasn’t a debacle. It accomplished EXACTLY what they wanted it to accomplish.

Their goal wasn’t deliver supplies. The goal was to ‘set up a pier’. They set up a pier.

The fact that it delivered functionally zero actual supplies, injured dozens (and allegedly killed one), and tore itself apart, all for the cost of hundreds of millions of dollars, doesn’t matter.

They got their stupid photo op pier.

Mission accomplished for the leftists.

To be sure, delivering aid was a sideshow stunt, whether it happened or didn’t happen.

The pier’s political goal was to pander to and kowtow to Islamofascists/Muslim supremacists in Michigan, Minnesota and elsewhere in the U.S., for crone-harlot, Harris’s, electoral benefit. To show these pukes that the wretched “Biden-Harris” Administration “cared” and was “doing something” to help the allegedly victimized Gazan terrorists and Islamofascists.

Pffffffft, you silly Americans, if you want to know how to do it right just search – – – Chinese Amphibious Bridging System – – -. Coming soon to a beach near Taipei City.

The sad thing is half the country doesn’t care that this was a total failure at every level and that no one was held accountable or that nothing was probably done to remedy the problems outlined. Half the country hates this country, Never mind the illegal aliens who at least want to be here for whatever reason. Deport half the country that hates it.
