Trump Vows to Bring Columbus Day Back ‘from the Ashes’
The President also slammed Democrats for destroying explorer’s ‘reputation’ .

We are a long way from from my favorite month, October, in the calendar year.
So image my surprise at seeing ‘Columbus Day” trending on X.com.
My surprise diminished considerably when I discovered that President Donald Trump recently declared on social media that he is “bringing Columbus Day back from the ashes,” blaming Democrats for what he describes as efforts to erase the holiday and undermine Christopher Columbus’s legacy, particularly for Italian Americans.

Columbus Day remains largely a celebrated national holiday, but the president suggested he has plans to boost it and its namesake even more amid mainly progressive complaints about the mistreatment of indigenous tribes after Christopher Columbus connected Europeans to the Americas.
“I’m bringing Columbus Day back from the ashes,” Trump wrote in a fiery post on Truth Social. “The Democrats did everything possible to destroy Christopher Columbus, his reputation, and all of the Italians that love him so much.
“They tore down his Statues, and put up nothing but ‘WOKE,’ or even worse, nothing at all! Well, you’ll be happy to know, Christopher is going to make a major comeback,” Trump wrote.
“I am hereby reinstating Columbus Day under the same rules, dates, and locations, as it has had for all of the many decades before!”
It must be noted Columbus Day has never been removed as a federal holiday. It continues to be observed on the second Monday in October, as established by federal law.
What Trump means is that the federal focus will be on the Italian explorer’s successful expedition, rather than the ‘Indigenous People”, the anti-Western-civilization tribute to paganism that it has morphed into under the progressive guise of tolerance.
The hate directed at white males Americans revere has heroes has been such that statues of Christopher Columbus are targets for vandalism on that day.
During the 2020 racial justice protests following George Floyd’s death, at least seven Christopher Columbus statues were destroyed across the nation. Demonstrators targeted these monuments as symbols associated with colonization and the mistreatment of indigenous peoples. In response, officials in at least 27 additional cities ordered the removal of Columbus statues that year to prevent potential vandalism.
In 2021, Biden became the first president to issue an official proclamation commemorating Indigenous Peoples Day, also on the second Monday of October to “honor America’s first inhabitants and the Tribal Nations.”
Maine, New Mexico, Vermont and Washington, D.C., have renamed the day Indigenous Peoples Day in 2019. Several states still have an official public holiday exclusively called Columbus Day and others like Nebraska or Pennsylvania celebrate both.
Trump regularly praised the 15th century Italian explorer in his Columbus Day proclamations during his first administration, while notably not mentioning Indigenous peoples.
America-loving Americans are thrilled with this development.
Five years ago, radical leftists tore down the Christopher Columbus statue outside the Minnesota State Capitol.
Over the following year, Columbus Day would slowly not be recognized under Democrats control.
But today, Columbus Day is back — Thank you, President Trump! pic.twitter.com/F1CNLfqDpU

Lat year, one of my posts stressed the importance of Columbus’ efforts for the greater welfare of humanity. The Americas provided Europe, Asia, and Africa with a rich variety of new nutrient-dense food items: Maize, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, peanuts, tobacco, and cacao (chocolate).
Columbus’ voyages improved navigation techniques and map-making, and pushed the boundaries of what was known about the world. And there were many positive benefits to humanity as well, which go unmentioned in the toxic, revised histories being offered today.
Some heroic teachers endeavored to commemorate the true meaning of Columbus Day, despite the progressive hostility toward it.
I dared to publicly express a defense of Columbus Day when I was a teacher in 2020 and it almost cost me my job.
I’m glad I didn’t cave to the Woke mob then, even if it was scary and stressful. pic.twitter.com/YDTKJVQBtO

I am happy to see the restoration of the true meaning of Columbus Day, It will me interesting to se how many more American “norms” Trump will restore over the course of his second term.

Now do Washington’s and Lincoln’s Birthday as separate holidays. I’m sure there’s one federal holiday we could give up.
I can think of two one of which was recently enacted during the democrats continuous fit of pandering,
Juneteenth day PLEASE
We have a Washington’s BD, a floating Monday in February
I accept Junteenth as a national holiday. I think we *should* celebrate the end of slavery; it is a worthy celebration. One that says no matter our mistakes, we can learn and grow and repent and move forward.
Your welcome to celebrate it. I’m tired of the endless pandering, the days, the months, and so on. It satisfies no one and makes no one happy. It is just another excuse to want more and more and more. It’s changed nothing and will change nothing.
Oh please stop, I’m Texas it was considered a joke, even with the black population
Juneteenth is a stupid holiday. It does NOT “mark the end of slavery,” any more than finding the last isolated holdout septuagenarian Japanese soldier on a South Pacific island “marked the end of World War II.”
For your information, the last soldier was found in the middle of March and is celebrated to this day as March teenth.
Repent of what? Slaveholding? All the slaveholders, who I think you want to repent, and their slaves are long dead. Nobody alive now has owned another person as a slave so WE have nothing for which we should repent. It’s in the past. Let us learn from it and leave it there.
.
Delaware and Kentucky were the last states to give up slavery when the 14th amendment went in to effect.
And…?
13th.
There is no need to know what number of the amendment is, us home folks just call it Amendment Teenth.
Thanks Milhouse for the correction. I knew it was in the 13-15 range.
That is why Lincoln’s Birthday should be a separate holiday. Juneteenth is a worthy celebration, as are many other worthy celebrations, but should not be on the lever of a national holiday during which government offices and courts close.
Junteenth like Kwanzaa and Indigenous People’s Day (created to replace Columbus Day) are just invented, feel-good holidays that few, if anyone, actually celebrates and could very easily be eliminated with no real repercussions beyond the howls of outrage from the usual liberal democrat suspects.
Except for one little problem. I have nothing to “repent” for as I have never owned a black slave nor has my family or ancestors. I owe the black race nothing and that’s where it ends.
The day would more accurately be called George Floyd Day.
Yes, more of this!
Exactly! We need more and more paid federal holidays for federal employees.
Columbus Day is ALREADY a Federal holiday, ya simp.
Columbus did not discover America. The Vikings did. So why don’t we celebrate Leif Erikson Day?
I dunno. Why don’t you draft a series of ignorant and mendacious posts pushing for that, so we can have fresh material to use for ridiculing you.
I do, in my own quiet way.
Well, yes. Vikings opened up to the new world and Viking settlers began arriving by the thousands. They settled all of North America and that’s why everyone speaks Danish today and is the reason we have so many Trolls
Actually, I’m with JR on this one.
I mean Columbus Day is just one of those random holidays most people simply don’t care about.
But it’s certainly more real than President’s Day or Labor Day.
I was born on Columbus Day (October 12), so…yeah, I do kinda care about it.
People stopped caring about it because the Nation stopped caring and in fact considered you a murdering racist to celebrate it
There’s a century long psychological information operation that must be counteracted. To echo the comments of others, five federal holidays a year where employees get the day off is enough. If the federal government is not funding holidays for the entire working population of the United States this is a giveaway for insiders, it’s pandering for votes, and it should stop.
Blame Howard Zinn.
Geez- what a great 100 days for the Harvester.
