Former Rep. George Santos Sentenced to Over 7 Years for Fraud, Identity Theft

U.S. District Court Judge Joanna Seybert sentenced former Rep. George Santos (R-NY) to seven years and three months after he pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

From The New York Post:

The wayward, openly gay ex-Long Island pol, who was exposed for fibbing about much of his life story, was sentenced to seven years and three months behind bars by Central Islip federal Judge Joanna Seybert. He must also fork over $373,000 in restitution as part of the sentence.Santos, 36, pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft in August, admitting he defrauded donors and used the names of dozens of people, including family and friends, to falsely inflate his number of contributors.

Santos cried before Seybart handed him his sentence. He offered everyone his “deepest apologies.”

“I cannot rewrite the past, but I can control the road ahead,” Santos added.

Seybert didn’t believe him, telling Santos she never saw his remorse and he “appeared to feel that ‘it’s always someone else’s fault.'”

The prosecutors pointed to Santos’s “recent social media posts casting himself as a victim of prosecutorial overreach.”

Santos will report to prison on July 25.

Santos claimed he graduated from New York University and Baruch College. He also said he worked at Citigroup and Goldman Sachs. He loved to portray himself as a successful business owner.

The guy never graduated from college. He never worked directly for Citigroup or Goldman Sachs.
