EU Approves Retaliatory Tariffs on U.S. Goods

EU Approves Retaliatory Tariffs on U.S. Goods

Bloomberg reported the tariffs will be around €21 billion ($23.2 billion).

The European Union approved its first set of retaliatory goods on U.S. goods.

From the European Commission:

Today, EU Member States have voted in favour of the European Commission’s proposal to introduce trade countermeasures against the United States.

The Commission’s proposal was made in response to the March decision by the US to impose tariffs on imports of steel and aluminium from the EU.

The EU considers US tariffs unjustified and damaging, causing economic harm to both sides, as well as the global economy. The EU has stated its clear preference to find negotiated outcomes with the US, which would be balanced and mutually beneficial.

Today’s vote of approval by Member States means that – once the Commission’s internal procedures are concluded, and the implementing act published – countermeasures will enter into force. Duties will start being collected as of 15 April.

These countermeasures can be suspended at any time, should the US agree to a fair and balanced negotiated outcome.

Bloomberg reported the tariffs will be around €21 billion ($23.2 billion).

The EU faces 20% tariffs on U.S. imports.

The bloc filled with a bunch of unelected bureaucrats offered President Donald Trump “zero-for-zero tariffs for industrial goods.”

Trump said the offer was not good enough.

the europukes dont even pay up the measly amount they were asked to pay to support their own military

so they and the msm can then run around the world telling all how great they are with their free medicines healthcare etc

all based on lefty bs

and now the eurobums team up with china against the usa….no surprise there

trump looks like a monster b/c “mom” let the world get away with acting bad and now the man of the house is home and he doesnt have time for the instability and uncivilized culture that has been created and promoted by the troublemakers

The E.U. members of NATIO have never met their minimum funding obligations. They are cheapskates and freeloaders, especially France and Germany.

Trillions of dollars are leaving the US Economy.

This trade war is impoverishing the Untied States of America.

You will need a detective to find the voter who cares that it impoverishes other people more when it comes time to vote and the only way that detective will find someone who isn’t imaginary is if it is Sherlock Holmes who you can’t hire due to tariffs.

You’re right. Trillions of dollars were leaving the US economy because the world was screwing us with THEIR tariffs, taxes, or outright bans on US goods.

Funny how you jackasses never said a bad word about that, huh?

You are a mother fing liar and you know you are a mother fing liar.

The United States Economy was prospering with the negative of inflation.

What Trump campaigned on is he was going to fix inflation.

Instead he and you are supporting increasing inflation.

A vast majority of Americans oppose these tariff polices.

Maybe that has something to do with the fact that Trump had to lie and claim he was the one who would stop inflation to become president?

Go ahead go back and watch the tik toks of people comparing 2020 prices to 2023 prices.

doge helps to bring inflation down as gov spending is the leading cause ( or close to it if its not) of inflation

Azathoth in reply to Danny. | April 9, 2025 at 12:41 pm

          2020 prices when?

Before or after the entire workforce was forcibly quarantined?

But 2020 wasn’t the problem. The problem was 2021.

And it has not been resolved to this day. Prices were not good in 2023 Or 2024.

And they’re not good so far in 2025. But we’re not even 4 months in.

They will stop inflation. They’ve already done it twice before.

Inflation was pretty much driven by out of control government spending thanks to Bidens increase inflation act.

The big problem for the EU is it exports a shit ton more to the states than it received back in return so has a much smaller base to leverage back in return, which puts them in a big disadvantage.

The fact they’ve got to ally themselves with their enemy tells you how empty their threats really are.

Secondly heaven forbid the EU actually works with America to even the trading floor right 🤔 However if it did that it wouldn’t be able to protect its car manufacturing racket…which oddly enough doesn’t seem to apply to China and it’s car manufacturing industry flooring European markets with its cars from brands formerly owned by European companies 😂

Can we ban this guy? Usually I don’t care because opposing opinions, even when stupid, are good because they cause debate.

However, there’s ad hominem, and there’s ad hominem attacking someone’s mother because you don’t like what’s been said.

This adds nothing to a reasoned debate, and just wastes everyone’s time.

If the economy under dementia Joe was so great there’s no way anyone would have won campaigning against it. It sucked

“Go ahead go back and watch the tik toks….”

This statement pretty much removes you from consideration as a serious poster.

“You are a mother fing liar and you know you are a mother fing liar”

This statement pretty much removes you from the human race.

      Fûck off. Biden impoverished America.

Calling them “retaliatory” when there are already huge tariffs on American goods is a bit disingenuous. Similar to the “See what you made me do!” an abuser might use against their victim.

Dolce Far Niente | April 9, 2025 at 11:26 am

Completely predictable; the status quo has served the Euroweinies well since the end of WW2. Of course they and the globalists are screaming.

They were not at all interested in “outcomes with the US, which would be balanced and mutually beneficial.” until overtly threatened with tariffs, so one can only conclude that the tariffs are working as planned.

So far their only concession seems to be zero tariffs on categories in which they sell a great deal more than they buy; not really a concession.

I wait with great anticipation for the next few months; even when consumer prices rise (as they have risen immensely since 2020) the downward pressure on housing stocks and other necessities from fewer illegals sucking our lifeblood will go a long way toward easing the pain, as will onshoring vital industries and fast-tracking things like mining and industrial permits..

DOGE invades the EU.

The bureaucrat class depends on tariff revenue to fund their largess.

Don’t think they are going down w/out a fight.

Europe: Well tariffs are stupid. They are only a tax on the country that imposes them. Why would anyone be that stupid.

Inquiring minds: So what are you going to do in return.

Europe: Well raise our tariffs, of course.

Hmmmm..

destroycommunism | April 9, 2025 at 12:18 pm

The welfare state in the usa is THE WORST FORM OF TAXATION on the people of the usa

so you can argue tariffs blah blah

the welfare state destroys the family and the economy allll at once

So the EU is cutting their tariffs?

Trump is the one issuing retaliatory tariffs –the EU ALREADY HAD tariffs in place on the US, as well as outright trade prohibitions.

The EU isn’t retaliating. They’re escalating their previously laid hostilities.

The EU-China Alliance is fighting back

The EU is about to learn a tough lesson. Golly gee whiz it would be a shame if the USA reinstated a ban on oil and LNG exports to Europe. Then simultaneously withdrew its Naval assets from Red Sea area to instead focus on the completely unrelated spike in mysterious shipping losses of vessels headed to/from Europe. Pirates are tricky and can pop up all over the place. Good thing the USA still has a Navy to enforce freedom of the Seas ….unlike most any other Nation. Damn shame about all those tankers going down what with the EU ban on Russian oil/NG imports. Not to worry, the US Navy will be on scene to find the culprits….eventually.

This is a all classic negotiation tactical battle. I used to do labor contract negotiations for a company of 50,000 employees. Everybody shouts and waves their arms and makes threats ….in public… because it looks good to their constituents… “We are calling your bluff!”

However in another room, away from the public glare and pressure, the REAL negotiations happen.

Trump is very good at this. If he makes a threat, he never fails to pull the trigger if his bluff is called. However in economic matters bullets travel very very slowly. It will be months before the bullet fired today impacts consumers….if it ever does. Yes, the stock market will panics in the short term, but the smart players will be back as soon as the gun smoke clears enough to see what is REALLY going to happen.

Ungrateful clowns. As I’ve said we should withdraw from NATO. However even if we don’t we should withdraw at least a brigade of troops from Europe and perhaps a couple of wings of planes at this time. They can be withdrawn for repurposing or for training. Doesn’t matter. Send a message.

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt | April 9, 2025 at 10:05 pm

Remove all military from Europe and shutter all military bases immediately. Germany first.

America completely out of NATO.

Immediate 300% tariff on German automobiles, alcohol, clothing and any other goods. Immediate 300% tariff on Italian annd French alcohol, clothing, and other goods.
