Colorado Senator Blames California and New York for Democrats’ “Toxic” Brand
Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) noted that Democratic Party is associated with coastal elites of California and New York, and “not anymore with working people in this country.”

As I have noted before, California Gov. Gavin Newsom is trying to remake himself into the second coming of President Bill Clinton.
Newsom recently appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher, where he engaged in a wide-ranging discussion about California’s governance, the Democratic Party’s challenges, and his controversial podcast.
During the show, Bill Maher criticized California’s extensive regulations, sharing personal frustrations about bureaucratic hurdles he faced while repairing his roof after wildfires. He urged Newsom to “clear out” the state’s excessive regulatory processes.
In response, Newsom had described the party’s brand as “toxic”, citing polling data that showed favorability for Democrats under 30%. Newsom acknowledged the challenges, actually admitting that unnecessary regulation reflects “ineffective liberal governance.”
When he cited examples of expedited infrastructure projects (such as restoring Interstate-10 in eight days after fires) it is clear he is rapidly distancing himself from the progressive policy-making that has been the hallmark of his administration since he became the governor in 2019.
It has been my contention that Newsom won’t survive the primaries. There is a wide array of reasons I could offer, the top one being is dreadful handling of the Greater Los Angeles wildfires this year.
But there might be an even more significant reason for Newsom’s upcoming failure: Other ambitious Democrats, who also will rework their resumes to be more Clinton-like.
For example, Senator Michael Bennet, a Democrat from the increasingly blue state of Colorado.
Bennet recently weighed in on remarks made by California Governor Gavin Newsom regarding the Democratic Party’s image. Bennet, speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, agreed that the Democratic Party’s brand is “really problematic”.
Bennet appeared to concur with the California governor, leveling harsh criticism at their shared party for losing touch with everyday voters. The Colorado senator said Democrats need to present a “compelling vision” for the future of the country, and the failure to do so was responsible for President Donald Trump’s two non-consecutive White House victories.
“The Democratic Party has lost touch with working people in our country at a time when fifty years of trickle-down economics has meant that most Americans feel like, no matter how hard they work, their kids aren’t going to live a life better than the life they led,” Bennet said.
But Bennet offered a fun twist to his acknowledgement: California and New York elites are to blame.
Bennet noted that “with all respect” to Newsom, the Democratic Party has become associated with the educated coastal elites of California and New York, and “not anymore with working people in this country.”
Yes, yes he did. https://t.co/mfeceWNy6b

Newsom fails to remember one important aspect of Clinton’s success: Clinton was a relatively unknown entity in 1991, and the paper-trail was either non-existent or hidden by a willing media.
Newsom has been a leading figure in creating the “toxicity”, and thanks to the new media, American voters have all the receipts. He cannot now rebrand himself.
The way Newsom handled Covid, the homeless crisis, wildfires, and his soft-on-crime policies? Downright inept. From dining maskless while everyone else was locked down to ordering citizens to cut water usage while his wineries consumed record amounts, he epitomizes hypocrisy. pic.twitter.com/Mz9tOySqFX

Those competing against Newsom in the Democratic primary season have lots of chum to throw into the water. I doubt Newsom will make it much past the first primary before someone with less of a track record of failure is put forth.
And while a Colorado politician may believe he/she/it can play the two coasts off against each other for a win, I would suggest that the state’s centrist tendencies have become…questionable.

Meanwhile in CO, you can lose custody in family court if you Truename your child. But, yeah, go blame those other Democrats, like you’re not all in the same boat — the S.S. Soros.
In some states, we’ve now reached the point where the government will criminalize the name you call your own children. While Trump can’t exercise his black letter Art II authority without some local judge enjoining him, I suspect normal people in California will have to wait for a long time before a federal district court judge stops that madness. This house is hopelessly divided. There can be no reconciliation with these people…and maybe there shouldn’t be.
This is the fundamental problem in America — a lack of a shared morality. There is no middle ground between people who think it’s wrong to transition other people’s children behind their backs and those who believe it’s wrong NOT to transition other people’s children behind their backs.
Bennet is a lowlife scum sucker who is philosophically EXACTLY like the CA and NY dems he claims to be castigating. This CO native has had enough of Bennet, Polis and all of their ilk. A pox on all of them.
“There can be no reconciliation with these people…and maybe there shouldn’t be.”
That is the plain truth. I saw a piece a little while ago about the Dems favorite Red Diaper Baby- B. Hussein Obama imploring the left including law firms to fight the Trump agenda. There it all is in a nutshell–Obama’s America that looks like China and MAGAs agenda that looks like America is supposed to be. There is no reconciliation between the two.
“not anymore with working people in this country.”
It hasn’t been for decades. The Democrats are also the party of regulate, regulate, and regulate more, with ever-more regulations pricing starter homes out of the reach of Joe Wrench, or a decent new car out of reach for Jane Admin.
Bennet should pay closer attention to his own state. It’s turning into East Germany with great skiing.
Pot calling the other kettles black. The Dems compete to be like or better than each other.
I’m thinking that Senator Bennet (D, Tren de Aragua) blaming NY and CA for his party’s toxic look might be a losing strategy.
When is the last time Bennet did not vote with the TDS coastal elites?
Plenty of crazy Dems in Colorado.
Bennet needs to review the status of Colorado. His party has invited in those coastal elites into Colorado and they have turned a once relatively politically balanced and prosperous state into a copy of California. Their progressive agenda is to destroy our 2A rights, bust our Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) tax controls, and welcome illegals with open arms among other things. Gov. Polis has been in the forefront of this multi year effort and Bennet has been here for all of it.
I am pretty sure that it was Colorado that tried to remove president Trump from the ballot like a bunch of fascists
Bennet has been a reliable radical democrat vote for as long as he’s been in office. Why is he blaming California and New York politicians? He’s just as bad if not worse.
He probably harbors a desire to be President like most politicians so he is playing the age old game of deriding his competition to elevate himself.
CA Pols: Newsome, Pelosi, Schiff, Harris
NY Polls: AOC Gillibrand, Schumer, Hochul, James
To label some with name recognition.
He’s not wrong that they are the face of it but the blue Colorado granolas are very arrogant. They are just too high to be reached for comment most of the time.
Not much chance of a centrist d/prog. Any major figure, Gov or Sen even non public office holder like a CEO is gonna have a history of toeing the d/prog line on Trans, open borders, abortion, taxation, interventionist Foreign policy/military adventurism particularly re Ukraine, hysteria re J6, support for Covid Mania mandates, coddling criminals, support of BLM riots, anti free speech stances on govt/Corp/tech censorship, do nothings on de-banking, support for asinine/ineffective gun control, anti Parental rights, globalist economic policies… on and on.
The vast middle-class, the 70% between the bottom 15% and the top 15%, has coalesced around MAGA/MAHA center/right populism of non intervention, USA first, supporting the nuclear Family policy agenda. Tough to try and fake that to win over these voters when their past record shows opposition to these same sorts of ideas, especially so in the internet age when past statements, writing, speeches can be found and put back into view.
This is one time Co can take some credit.
??
CO was first state to legalize weed, which triggered migration of leftists from states like CA that forever changed the electorate from purple to deep blue. CO is leftie wacko social experiment now.
Here’s another leftist, convinced that it’s only that the Democrat “message’ that is faulty, and if they can only phrase it correctly the electorate will once again reward them.
And maybe they’re right; the public has certainly lapped up the racist Nazi meme and seem to be convinced Elon is stealing their Social Security.
I despair.
Any politician who has a “D” after his or her name is not worth voting for. I don’t give a damn how allegedly “moderate” or “centrist” they claim to be.
The Dhimmi-crat Party is a party of evil and destructive totalitarians. End of story.
I’m not a republican or a conservative. I’m a moderate and a centralist and an independent, 25 years ago I identified as a democrat. That party has moved so far to the left that many consider me right wing although my politics over all haven’t changed. I’ve just been moved to the middle as everything slid over.
Having said this I will never, ever vote for a democrat again. I despise them and this goes well beyond their current politics. I despise every aspect of them. As the saying goes if a democrat was on a fire I’d consider pouring gasoline on them before urinating on them to put it out.
You have to be genuinely stupid to the bone or genuinely evil…. You can be both … to be or vote for a Democrat….there is no longer any gray area on that
That’s right, all of them are Dem. They vote that way and take to the streets and riot and calling them leftists or far leftists is to lose the language war. All are Dems of one stripe or another. Any Dem who stands up against this voting habit and riot habit can be given a pass……
In other words “REAL communism has never been tried!”
Fuck off, bitch boy.
Toxic comes in many faces and forms; NY and Cali are one and Senator Bennet and Governor Polis are Colorado’s own version of toxicity. Bennet is doubly blessed, as he’s also as stupid as Hank “let’s hope Guam doesn’t capsize” Johnson.
