VP Vance Targets Denmark and Mainstream Media During Greenland Visit

VP Vance Targets Denmark and Mainstream Media During Greenland Visit

Meanwhile, President Trump posts an intriguing new Greenland video: ‘Now is the time to stand together’

The Trump and Greenland saga continues, with another chapter featuring Vice President J.D. Vance.

In my last report, I noted that Second Lady Usha’ Vance’s trip had morphed from a cultural excursion with her children to view the famous Greenland dog sled race to a visit with her husband to the Pituffik Space Base on the Arctic island to support the trips.

Our Vice President did not disappoint, as he bonded with the troops there with respect and humor.

Our troops received the bulk of his affection. During an address during the visit, Vance unleashed some hard-hitting statements directed at our ally Denmark. Essentially, Vance took a diplomatic sledgehammer to Denmark’s treatment of Greenland, suggesting that Copenhagen has treated the island more like a neglected outpost than a strategic priority.
Vance did not sugar-coat his opinion of the obliviousness Denmark has had to the threats Russia and China pose in this region.

US Vice-President JD Vance has accused Denmark of leaving Greenland vulnerable to alleged incursions by China and Russia, as he asked its people to “cut a deal” with the US.

Speaking during a visit to the Arctic island, Vance minimised recent threats by President Donald Trump to take over the island by force.

….He used the opportunity to take aim at Denmark, alleging it had to “keep the people of Greenland safe from a lot of very aggressive incursions from Russia, from China, and other nations”, without providing further details.

He specifically called out the countries for taking interest in routes and minerals in the region, as the island of 57,000 people is believed to hold massive untapped mineral and oil reserves.

In his remarks, Vance sought to reassure the people of Greenland that the US would not use military force to take the island from Denmark. Instead, he urged Greenlanders to embrace “self-determination” and sever ties with Denmark, which has controlled the region since 1721.

I will simply note China has previously expressed interest in mining the region, to secure even more of a rare-earths monopoly than it already has.

The American press coverage of the Vance visit has been disgraceful and has traitorously undermined our security enhancement efforts and negotiations for a more robust partnership. To begin with, CBS laughably insists President Donald Trump is actually going to invade the island.

Vice President JD Vance will join his family Friday on a trip to Greenland — a vast island northeast of Canada that President Trump wants to absorb into the United States. Roughly three times the size of Texas, Greenland is covered mostly by an ice sheet and has a population of only about 56,000.

…The U.S. president says American must control Greenland for security reasons, and he has refused to rule out using force to make that a reality.

The press also ignores the potential for a wide range of diplomatic arrangements that could be made with an independent Greenland, and how much the Greelanders want to be free of Denmark.

But Vance really let the press corps(e) have it over “Signal-Gate“.

“The same media that covered for the Biden administration after the untimely, unnecessary deaths of 13 Americans is [now] really, really interested in forcing the president to fire someone because of a Signal chat.”

“That is not honest behavior from the American media. If you think you’re going to force the president to fire anybody, you’ve got another thing coming.”

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump released a new video highlighting historical U.S. military efforts in Greenland and advocating for closer ties with the Arctic territory. The 90-second ad recounts the U.S. defense of Greenland during World War II, particularly a 1943 mission in which American troops sacrificed their lives to protect the island from Nazi forces.

The video connects this historical moment to current geopolitical challenges posed by Russia and China in the Arctic, emphasizing Greenland’s strategic importance for global security and urging unity between the U.S. and Greenland.

“In the cold silence of the tundra, a bond was born not from treaties or trade, but from blood and bravery. While Germany controlled Europe, the Nazis set their sights on the Arctic. Greenland became an unwitting combatant, and the United States stepped in, not to conquer but to protect,” the narrator says in the 90-second video that was released Friday.

“In 1943, nearly 1,000 American soldiers with four chaplains set sail from New York to Greenland, carrying with them hope, duty and a quiet fear. But their ship was torpedoed by a Nazi U-boat, and the frigid waters of the North Atlantic became a grave. Those four chaplains gave up their life vests, giving their lives so that others might live to protect America and Greenland,” the narrator said in the video that was created by Securing American Greatness, a pro-Trump dark money group that was formed during the 2024 presidential election.

In conclusion, Greenland is happening, despite the histrionics of the European Union and the American Press. I suspect that there are security threats the Trump administration has detected that the former administration chose to ignore, and that is the reason for the intense focus by Team Trump.

“US Vice-President JD Vance has accused Denmark of leaving Greenland vulnerable to alleged incursions by China and Russia, as he asked its people to ‘cut a deal’ with the US.

In other words, “Nice place you got here, Greenlanders. Be a shame if Denmark let something happen to it.”

Stay tuned for another “color revolution”.

    That’s a Democrat move.

“Color revolution” is the latest name for this favorite method of effecting regime change. And BTW, Victoria Nuland (who put it into practice in Ukraine) had also served in the administration of Republican president George W. Bush.

And what is wrong with regime change, if it’s in the USA’s interest?

Trump is insulting Greenland, insulting Denmark, insulting Canada, insulting Ukraine, insulting our allies. It seems like the only country in the world that Trump is not insulting is Communist Russia. Go figure.

alaskabob in reply to Milhouse. | March 30, 2025 at 3:07 pm

It also is in no position to invade the rest of Europe. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia has been in a defensive mode. They found out the hard way that they couldn’t project enough power to seize enough of Ukraine to have a short war….er… Special Operation. What hampered Napolean and Hitler has worked in reverse for Russia…too big and too far for supply lines within Ukraine.

Trump has stripped bare much of the veneer that is the EU. I think the US has to step back enough to not be dragged into a solely European problem… although the US has major fingerprints on Ukraine’s Color Revolution. All of this didn’t have to happen and everything after 2013 proves that. Russia’s demographics point to military impotency (manpower) in about 30 years.

scaulen in reply to moonmoth. | March 30, 2025 at 10:42 am

Something USAID has been doing behind the scenes with no oversight for how long? It’s refreshing to actually see when the government is negotiating for cooperation instead of funding an opposition group to cause enough turmoil to send in US “advisors”.

20 years ago, we could count on Canada as a strong ally. Now, after years of left wing governments (notably that of, as my friends in the western provinces lovingly call him, Justine Turdflow), that secure northern border is doubtful.
As Canada continues its march to its self-destruction, Greenland takes on an even greater importance for the US. Thank God Trump is smart enough to see it.

Why is he insulting Denmark IN DENMARK

Humiliating Denmark (what you are doing when you insult them while on their soil) is not a good carrot for Denmark selling us a piece of their sovereign territory.

If Greenland was not in a strategic location not a single person would pretend they care about Inuit nationalist causes (How many causes that consist of 30k people at most do you feel strongly about elsewhere?).

The trip is counter-productive at best.

Denmark is an ally of the United States that has aligned with the United States in every possible way (in recent years despite massive pressure from leftists all over Europe Danish Parliament rejected recognizing a Palestinian State. Again Denmark is an ally that aligns their foreign policy behind ours) it should be given the carrot for why they should sell Greenland not humiliation and the stick.

Publicly attacking allies makes third parties watching think that having an alliance with you might not mean very much.

healthguyfsu in reply to Danny. | March 29, 2025 at 8:47 pm

Another idiot. That’s like saying Hong Kong is China.

According to treaties signed and ratified after WW2 Greenland is part of Denmark

According to every single government including our own Greenland is part of Denmark

According to all internationally recognized borders Greenland is part of Denmark

      Greenland is Danish sovereign territory.

To get Denmark to sell us Greenland means they are doing something for us.

To get that humiliating them is at best counter-productive.

If negotiations to sell Greenland fail you could thank J.D. Vance for going to what is as of right now a piece of Denmark and insulting Denmark there.

If Denmark wanted something from the United States and a senior Danish official showed up on American territory to insult America you would be the first outraged person demanding negotiations end I promise you that.

Milhouse in reply to Danny. | March 30, 2025 at 9:21 am

Tell us all about the last negotiation you closed for nine or more figures.

BobM in reply to Danny. | March 30, 2025 at 3:48 am

To some, the only way we should interact with allied nations is to be subservient to them, to basically be the junior, yes-man partner in whatever arrangements and agreements we hold to. Anything else is “attacking our allies”.

    Well, F that.
NATO for decades has spent the money they promised to spend on self-defense on socialist bread & circuses. German military equipment, air and ground, is less than 50% operational, most is sidelined for lack of working parts and only kept in inventory so they can lie about what they “contribute”. The other members do similar. Soldiers get weekends off? So nato’s best hope is that they’re never attacked on a Saturday or Sunday.

And in line with all that, Greenland is a “protectorate” that Denmark doesn’t spend much effort or money protecting – they’re even pulling hind-t*t when it comes to feeding off of momma’s (socialist) infrastructure spending.

An “Ally” who you aren’t allowed to negotiate with or criticize isn’t an Ally, instead you’re their (sub)servant nation or colony.

Danny in reply to BobM. | March 30, 2025 at 6:26 am

If you want to get another nation to sell you a portion of their sovereign territory insulting them on their soil is the last thing you want to do.

If Denmark wanted a major concession from the United States and a Danish official showed up on American soil to insult America we wouldn’t be having a conversation that would be the end of negotiations.

It is time to live in reality a place that does not have room for childish antics in international diplomacy.

henrybowman in reply to Danny. | March 30, 2025 at 12:27 pm

I’ll be laughing at you when Trump achieves exactly that, and you’re left standing with your dingus in you hand.

moonmoth in reply to henrybowman. | March 30, 2025 at 1:20 pm

Trump may indeed succeed in acquiring Greenland, but the price will be higher, and our allies will be more distrustful of us than ever.

But many regulars in the LI comment-section echo chamber will be willing to pay that price to prove to the rest of the world that the US can continue its neocon ways.

Danny in reply to BobM. | March 30, 2025 at 6:28 am

To add on a follow up Denmark has aligned with the United States one very international issue including China and Russia.

Strong arm them when they hold the cards they keep Greenland, and change their approach to America does that sound good? How about a Russian or Chinese military base there?

As much as you may want to see our officials insulting our allies unprovoked that behavior could have dire and purely negative consequences and the best case scenario is no backlash.

Denmark is not our enemy China is and I would like to see something to weaken instead of strengthen China.

CommoChief in reply to Danny. | March 30, 2025 at 8:12 am

Greenland is a territory of Denmark not Denmark itself. The people of Greenland have the option to become independent of Denmark and then enter into a similar arrangement with the USA of the wish.

If you believe that Denmark or the people of Greenland will choose to enter into an alliance with China b/c we are once again expressing interest in acquiring Greenland… opinions vary.

Danny in reply to CommoChief. | March 30, 2025 at 1:14 pm

The status Greenland has is what the Danes say it has. If they chose there is no process for it to become independent.

Canada is realigning to China because of the insults.

The best case scenario for insults is they do nothing.

A worst case scenario is a national backlash in the country being insulted as shown in Canada.

This is exactly like when Zelensky insulted Trump at the press conference did that make you more pro-Ukraine?

Sanddog in reply to CommoChief. | March 30, 2025 at 7:58 pm

Danny, China is realigning to China because the government is leftist. Have you not been paying attention the last 20 years?

CommoChief in reply to CommoChief. | March 31, 2025 at 9:48 am

          Danny,

As a loyal US Citizen I am only pro USA and in.favor of policies that place the interests of the vast middle-class (the 70% between the bottom 15% and the top 15%) above the considerations of other Nations and most other policy considerations.

Canada depends upon the continued goodwill of.the USA and it far more in their interest to appease the USA than China whether from a sense of being a good neighbor or from a place of fear. I’d rather have good neighbor but that’s dependent upon the Canadians acting to secure our friendship v exploit us economically and free ride to a large extent on our military defense.

Greenland is within our hemisphere. We are the hegemonic power in our hemisphere. If a European Nation seeks to intervene contrary to our wishes, see the Monroe doctrine. The status of Greenland is in fact wholly dependent upon what the USA says it is. See the dispute with Mexico re borders. See the nation of Panama and the Canal being created by the USA. See Puerto Rico and other formerly Spanish possessions which now belong to the USA.

Brian in reply to Danny. | March 30, 2025 at 9:53 am
. If Greenland was not in a strategic location not a single person would pretend they care about Inuit nationalist causes (How many causes that consist of 30k people at most do you feel strongly about elsewhere?).
IMO, over the last several decades, world events have placed Greenland in a highly strategic location and that fact merits strong US interest.

But if you feel Chinese bases in, and exploitation of Greenland’s resources are not threats to sea-lanes and not an step against US interests and not a step towards Chinese world hegemony, please say so.

If you think heavy Chinese influence in Greenland and Chinese bases would become a major threat to the US and a large step towards Chinese world hegemony, what would you do, if anything, to stop them?

moonmoth in reply to Brian. | March 30, 2025 at 1:06 pm

No one here has said that Chinese bases in Greenland wouldn’t be a threat to us. And you’ve provided no evidence to support your hypothetical, that China can — or intends to -h establish such bases.

Danny in reply to Brian. | March 30, 2025 at 1:11 pm

Do you have major reading comprehension issues????

The quote you stated literally says and I will copy paste

“f Greenland was not in a strategic location not a single person would pretend they care about Inuit nationalist causes”

In other words I made it very clear I think it is strategic.

That is why we should not be actively insulting Denmark and instead should negotiate in a way that is likely to get them to either sell or if they decide they want to keep it do so while remaining an ally of the United States as it has been since WW2.

      How about this?

A great way to prevent Chinese and Russian incursion into Greenland is to not alienate the current owner, not insult them unprovoked on their own soil, and not behave like they are our enemies?

For the future of Greenland the current owner holds all of the cards. If we treat them well we may get them to sell it to the United States, and at worst will keep them as an ally preventing Chinese influence there.

If we treat them as enemies….how is that working out for Chinese influence in Canada? Canada is openly realigning behind China.

Strong arming Denmark seems the wrong approach to me.

This needs to be a political win for Denmarks leadership, supported by their subjects.

They should be wooing them, lile a romance.

The US cannot work with Denmark on this for a simple reason — history lesson required, and here goes.

The US has tried on three occasions to buy Greenland from Denmark: just after the Civil War, during WWI, and just after WW2. Each time Denmark said no. But, in 1917, Britain (while fighting in the war) became concerned that one day Denmark WOULD sell. So they paid for a ‘right of first refusal’ with the Danes. If Denmark ever did make a deal with the US, Britain would have the right to match it and take possession themselves.

That agreement is in force today.

So if the US were to make a deal with Denmark, the current government of the UK would most certainly match it and take possession. There is no doubt of that.

NOW you understand why the Trump administration is encouraging the Greenlanders to consider ‘self-determination’ — if Greenland declares independence, Britain has no way to claim the island.

When did the current British Government or any significant opposition party ever imply they would do that?

stevewhitemd in reply to Danny. | March 30, 2025 at 10:37 am

In 1917 when they made the deal. In 1948 when they communicated to the US that they would enforce their claim. Does anyone think the current UK government, given the tension between the Starmer government and the Trump administration, would NOT do this? Mr. Starmer would find the money just to spit in the Donald’s eye.

I despise everything the current British government stands for from the trumped up charges to the opposition to arresting parents for asking for transparency in how schools are selecting racist headmasters.

However as of right now since Trump has entered office the British government has been rapidly retreating from everything said about Trump in the past and has been aligning British foreign policy behind American foreign policy with the exception of Israel.

If the incumbent government had the intentions you credit it with Chagos would be in Chinese hands right now because he would have proceeded with the Jimmy Carter like intention of giving it to Mauritius eliminating America’s ability to project force in vital trade networks that America relies on.

Prior to Trump entering office that was exactly his intent. A call from Donald Trump the intended give away was cancelled.

He is bad for America because he undermines our values by transitioning Britain to an essentially fascist state.

His intentions for America on the world stage however are essentially the traditional alliance between Britain and America.

stevewhitemd in reply to Danny. | March 30, 2025 at 5:01 pm

Chagos: as Wednesday Addams would say, “wait…”

But to ensure Diego Garcia remains an American military base, we should purchase the archipelago from Britain. Alternatively, a 99 year lease that neither Mauritius nor anyone else could cancel.

MoeHowardwasright in reply to stevewhitemd. | March 30, 2025 at 6:44 am

With that diplomatic caveat in mind. The self determination becomes paramount. Hence VP Vance’s visit and comments. Denmark have put themselves in this position by ignoring the local residents for centuries. By using self determination and partnering with the US every local could be cashing a profit sharing check every month. I predict that the next article debasing the US will be centered on “ruining the pristine” glacial areas and scientific research in to climate change.

CommoChief in reply to gonzotx. | March 30, 2025 at 10:05 am

With granting of some level of autonomy by Denmark to Greenland it is largely moot. If Greenland chooses to become fully independent of Denmark and then uses that independence to become a territory of the USA with an eye to Statehood or remain more like Puerto Rico, Britain has no claim. Their claim is contingent on the ‘sale’ and if no sale takes place the claim is worthless.

Trump is not a ‘neocon’ — that refers to a person who demonstrably left on everything except American power projection to benefit the deep state and their preference for ‘democracy’, as they define it.

Trump is a populist, somewhat conservative on social and economic issues, and a strong traditionalist. None of that is neocon.

We went from a friendly, respected, prosperous country to an aggressive, despised, bankrupt country in two months.

Thank you redhat cult!

Ahh, “respected” That must explain why thousands of people were running across our borders illegally every day–because they respected us.

“Prosperous” Well that depends on whether you want to call it prosperity when it consists of a government borrowing money to hire more government employees + giving billions away to “charities” and NGOs formed specifically to live off the government teat without producing anything of value. Hey as long as the bank is willing to loan you money to spend, you can really live a “prosperous” life! Really?

When the employment numbers have to be corrected downwards by MILLIONS of jobs due to “errors” in counting those employed, and when the increases in employment come entirely from government hires and illegal immigrants…you may call that “prosperous” if you want, but it’s a prosperity I want nothing of.
