Trump’s Education Department Slashing Almost 50% of Its Workforce

The reduction will leave the department with 2,183 workers.

Nearly 50% of the Department of Education workforce will go on administrative leave on Friday, March 21.

Well, it’s a start since President Donald Trump cannot legally end the Department of Education.

“Today’s reduction in force reflects the Department of Education’s commitment to efficiency, accountability, and ensuring that resources are directed where they matter most: to students, parents, and teachers,” said Secretary of Education Linda McMahon. “I appreciate the work of the dedicated public servants and their contributions to the Department. This is a significant step toward restoring the greatness of the United States education system.”

The department said it would still “deliver on all statutory programs that fall under the agency’s purview.”

The programs include “formula funding, student loans, Pell Grants, funding for special needs students, and competitive grantmaking.”

The department had 4,133 workers when Trump took office.

The reduction will leave the department with 2,183 workers.

However, the reduction includes the 600 employees who chose voluntary resignation opportunities and retirements since the inauguration.

Good riddance to rubbish “education.”

If you can’t get rid of it, reduce it to a desk in the public toilet.

I wonder if DOGE demanded that they list five positive contributions they make to education since their inception in the late seventies?

They should.

They would list all kinds of harmful stuff that they think is good. I’ve never met an Ed. D. that couldn’t destroy education and feel righteous while they do it.

They’ve greatly improved the performance of athletes in women’s collegiate sports.

You gotta get those numbers up! Those are rookie numbers!

I want the salt contract for when they tear the DOE building down onnacounta it’ll need a lot of it.

UnCivilServant | March 12, 2025 at 8:02 am

You’re halfway there. I won’t think you’re serious until at least 100% is cut.

Can’t figure out how to get past 100%? start cutting from other agenices that provide services to the department.

OH BOY: “The Lyndon Baines Johnson Building?” You gotta be kidding me. Surely one of the most corrupt presidents ever, and he very well could have had a part in JFK’s asassination.

Small wonder that the DOE went so far downhill. Anything the demonrats have control of turns to devastation and money thrown to the wind and no Conservative ever would have implemented the disgraceful programs that have gone on for so many decades!

TY Mary… Linda had a really good interview on the Ingraham Angle.
She impressed me… following 47’s directives..

This is a good start, but the real problem lies with the teachers’ unions. Those are what needs to be dismantled.

BigRosieGreenbaum | March 12, 2025 at 10:57 am

Good, shut it all down and get rid of the union.

Since Jimmy Carter got the Dept of Education started the education in the USA at all levels has went down badly. My sons finished HS in the early 2000s and HS was extremely bad through all classes. Me and my wife could not get through to any of the teachers, the admin, and the school board so we tutored both sons through all classes.

When each reached HS we gave them a choice of college or Trade School. Both chose different TS the year they finished HS and it cost less than half a year of college and within 5 years of finishing TS they each were making 6 figures in a steady career.

It is time to end the Department of Education and give the money direct to the states. The states should handle education better.

Give the money to the states! Why? Why is the federal government stealing our money and then turning around and sending it back to the states after taking their cut. This process is wasteful in and of itself.

Learn to code. Since they were at the DOE, should be easy if dum-witted coal miners can do it.

Also if they feel stressed about current events, go get a Margarita and go to a kick boxing class.

Shoving that back in their smug faces will never get old.

hopefully the 50% that is still employed are the janitors sweeping up the mess

maga and DO IT NOW

50% is a start, they need to finish the job

They could take the remaining 50%, sit them down and in a classroom setting, and have them write “I do not have a useful job. I am a parasite.” 10,000 timers per day, every day.

Good, those people might have to do something useful for a change

Halfway to the goal.
