Trump Pausing, Reviewing Military Aid to Ukraine

Trump Pausing, Reviewing Military Aid to Ukraine

Trump exploded after Zelenskyy said, “An agreement to end the war is still very, very far away, and no one has started all these steps yet.”

President Donald Trump has decided to pause and review all aid to Ukraine. It is not permanent, though:

BREAKING: The United States is pausing all U.S. military aid to Ukraine until President Trump determines the Ukrainians show a commitment to good faith peace negotiations, a senior Trump administration official tells Fox News.

“This is not permanent termination of aid, it’s a pause,” the official emphasized. “The orders are going out right now.”

The official said this is in response to Ukrainian President Zelensky’s conduct over the last week.

The move comes hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed the war with Russia is “very, very far away.”

It’s almost as if Zelenskyy does not want the war to end:

“I think our relationship (with the U.S.) will continue, because it’s more than an occasional relationship,” Zelenskyy said late Sunday, referring to Washington’s support for the past three years of war.

“I believe that Ukraine has a strong enough partnership with the United States of America” to keep aid flowing, he said at a briefing in Ukrainian before leaving London.

Asked by a reporter to comment about the outlines of a new European initiative to end Russia’s war, Zelenskyy said: “We are talking about the first steps today, and therefore, until they are on paper, I would not like to talk about them in great detail.”

“An agreement to end the war is still very, very far away, and no one has started all these steps yet. The peace that we foresee in the future must be just, honest, and most importantly, sustainable,” he added.

No war means lifting martial law in Ukraine, which means elections! It also means no more aid or less of it.

Awfully suspicious, isn’t it?

Trump sure thinks so. He wrote on Truth Social:

This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer! It is what I was saying, this guy doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing and, Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelenskyy, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the U.S. – Probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?

When you are brought in to help end a war, you go to the aggressor. It should not be shocking to anyone that Trump went to Vladimir Putin.

Why is Trump the only person who wants this war to end?

Maybe we should ask Lizzy Cheney and her daddy Dick. I’m pretty sure they can explain how war is profitable.

Peace is boring and makes no money.

Zelensky is learning the meaning of FAFO.

I suggest Ukraine change course.

Zelensky is a nut case, and will never learn anything. He’s counting on the US to give in to domestic and international pressure and bail him out of his losing war.

Paula in reply to EBL. | March 3, 2025 at 10:38 pm

After he left the US he went to UK where he was wined and dined and got his butt kissed. Even got to see the king. He’s in hog heaven.

    diver64 in reply to EBL. | March 4, 2025 at 5:18 am

I understand Zelensky is thinking about Ukraine and wants the best deal possible but that doesn’t include a return to the borders that existed before Russia invaded. Putin has no incentive to do that and no one around the world has shown the will to put an army on the ground to force him out so why should he? Like it or not, talking to Russia is called diplomacy and that is the only way the war is going to stop. I’m mystified as to why Zelinsky did what he did, though. He should have handled that stuff in private not a news conference.

I’ve had this same discussion with folks who don’t seem to understand. At this point Z having a head on his shoulders and flying a blue and yellow flag is a win. This is over as far as reclaiming territory.

      >” I’m mystified as to why Zelinsky (sic) did what he did, though.”

Zelenskyy did what he did because he arrogantly thought that Trump was going to just be another brain dead President like Joe Biden and that he could manipulate Trump to get whatever he wanted. Of course, that was a massively incorrect assumption on his part and Zelenskyy rightly had his hind-end handed to him for his arrogance. And it was done in public for all to witness. Not in some shady backroom of the White House where it could all be kept a secret.

Zelensky has had plenty of time climb down off his high horse, apologize for his insulting and ungrateful conduct towards our Nation last week. He compounded that error by refusing to sign, for the third time, the deal for mineral development at the WH. He tripled down by departing the US without signing. He then went to the UK and pouted until they gave him $2 billion. Then silence for a couple days, no apology, no top level effort from him to reach out and attempt to repair the damage he caused to the ‘relationship’ with the USA.

He doesn’t want to face the fact that his Nation had already lost when Russia made the decision to cross into Ukraine. Russia has already taken 80% of the territory they wanted, now they are running up the score b/c this clown Zelensky won’t cut his losses and make a deal to stop the carnage. Sucks to be smaller and fighting a larger, meaner opponent and Ukraine did abuse well as they could but they are risking total defeat, destruction.as a Nation if this continues. If y’all don’t think Poland would carve out a big chunk of NW Ukraine for themselves under the right conditions if given an opportunity…..

Zelensky is taking the orders of his EU masters.

They’re just outright admitting at this point there is no plan to end the war. They just straight up REFUSE to even talk to Russia, and think that they can just keep the US money graft train going indefinitely with the only strategy of RUSSIA BAD, PUTIN EVIL, SEND MONEY.

Americans are DONE with this farce.

JohnSmith100 | March 3, 2025 at 8:29 pm

I think my earlier comment about Zelensky thinking he could grandstand and buffalo America into knuckling under to him was dead on. There is a profound arrogance with Zelensky.

Absolutely no military or financial aid to Ukraine. No rare earth deal either because that’s a trap to get the US into a hot war with Russia. The Europeans, with a few exceptions want to keep the Ukraine war going to exhaust Russia at American expense. Glenn Diesen explains the whole thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXIbBQwLm_c

You can also read his work in a book, “The Ukraine War & the Eurasian World Order.” Martin Armstrong reaches similar conclusions.

Europe, along with the American deep state, and the Democrats want to eventually break up Russia into smaller weak regions to eventually plunder its resources. The Russians are wise to the plan, and will fight even if that leads to nuclear war. Once one becomes familiar with the complete history, this theory makes a lot of sense.

Trump needs to quietly tell the the UK, France, and Germany that if they send troops to the Ukraine, the US will withdraw from NATO. They will back off quickly as they lack the military resources to fight Russia.

Sanddog in reply to oden. | March 3, 2025 at 11:29 pm

Russia is not some hapless victim. History teaches us a lesson about what happens when Russia is on the march. I’m not sure why some people think it’s different now just because Putin likes to talk about freedom.

mailman in reply to Sanddog. | March 4, 2025 at 1:42 am

And where exactly is Russia going to march?

The reality the left refuses to acknowledge is that Russia is nothing more than a regional power incapable of power projection outside its immediate sphere of influence.

Unlike China, who actually has the money to project power outside of its borders Russiansumply does not have that capability. It is no longer a world player.

And that means it will be up to Europe to contain Russia because it is a local issue for them.

      Virginia42 in reply to Sanddog. | March 4, 2025 at 8:26 am

Nothing happening is inconsistent with historical Russian policy and security goals. But apparently western “movers and shakers” don’t read any freaking history.

        starride in reply to Virginia42. | March 4, 2025 at 8:41 am

You are absolutely correct, Now ask yourself why a country with a similar GDP of Mexico would put themselves in the position of going up militarily against both the U.S. and the EU?

          Virginia42 in reply to starride. | March 4, 2025 at 10:17 am

Right now? Given geographic realities they don’t have much to worry about. The EU hasn’t got the strength to do much (and neither do we, given we can’t even manufacture enough ammo for our own uses).

Trump doesn’t have to be nice to Ukraine. He has to be nice to Russia. He’s moving them both equally towards a common solution. That is, where they both come out ahead if they stop fighting, compared to continuing the fight.

War only happens when one side is badly miscalculating.

mailman in reply to rhhardin. | March 4, 2025 at 1:47 am

The problem we have is that the intellectual Pygmies on the left have turned Russia in to this arch nemesis that it simply is not.

And they have backed themselves so hard in to that corner that they simply cannot bring themselves to have anything to do with Russia other than calling them mean names and demand the war never end.

Meanwhile Europe continues to give Russia BILLIONS for its gas and oil because it’s made themselves gazproms bitch.

      diver64 in reply to mailman. | March 4, 2025 at 5:20 am

I remember when Trump warned about Russian gas and the Germans laughed at him. In fact, one of the guys laughing then was just on a podium crying over something or other and isn’t laughing now. Europe has no leverage to do anything and Putin is laughing at them talking tough and buying the oil and gas funding Putin at the same time.

I thought Maxine Waters would have filled that role quite nicely. Or not nicely, in her case.

She could tag team with Rosa DeLauro against Godzilla.

I’m not sure we should give any more aid to Ukraine but if we do it should be no more than the average amount of aid given by the individual European countries,

“(Trump) Withdraw from NATO…….Rubio was involved in making that nearly impossible.

“Since December 2023, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024 includes a provision (Section 1250A) that restricts presidential authority to unilaterally withdraw from NATO. It states that the president cannot “suspend, terminate, denounce, or withdraw” the U.S. from NATO without either:
Two-thirds Senate approval (67 votes if all 100 senators are present and voting), or

An Act of Congress (a bill passed by majorities in both the House and Senate, subject to presidential signature or veto override).

This law was bipartisan, spearheaded by Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Marco Rubio (R-FL),

DaveGinOly in reply to SHV. | March 4, 2025 at 12:26 am

What might Milhouse have to say about a POTUS’ authority to unilaterally suspend a treaty? Did Congress overstep its authority when it sought to constrain the POTUS’ authority to suspend or cancel a treaty? (Seriously. I value Milhouse even when I disagree with him. I’m asking him to weigh in because I’m pretty sure he’ll have something interesting to say.)

Milhouse! It’s your at-bat. Where are you?

Milhouse in reply to DaveGinOly. | March 4, 2025 at 1:21 am

That law is likely invalid, and definitely unenforceable. The most direct precedent is Barry Goldwater’s attempt to sue Carter for abrogating the treaty with Taiwan. The Supreme Court said it was a matter for the two political branches to work out between them, and not justiciable. In other words, whether or not Carter had the right to unilaterally abrogate treaties, the courts couldn’t stop him. The same would apply to Trump.

Milhouse in reply to DaveGinOly. | March 4, 2025 at 1:22 am

The constitution says how treaties are to be made. It doesn’t say anything about how they are to be abrogated. So presidents’ default assumption has been that they can do it unilaterally.

        Capitalist-Dad in reply to Milhouse. | March 4, 2025 at 10:21 am

Once a treaty is in place, the Executive Branch administers it through the State Department. Surely, except in the mind of leftists, proper administration must include the power to penalize the other country for trying to leverage advantage where none should exist. Zelensky was trying to muscle concessions from the US, mistakenly thinking withholding the mineral deal gave him the advantage. Considering that all the adults thought the signing was a done deal , Zelensky’s little gambit represented an 11th hour surprise that only blew up in his face.

          Milhouse in reply to Capitalist-Dad. | March 5, 2025 at 1:13 am

We have no treaty with the Ukraine. We are discussing the NATO treaty, and who has the power to abrogate it. The answer is that the constitution doesn’t say, so presidents have traditionally assumed that they can do it unilaterally, while Congress has traditionally assumed that it must have some role. In the Taiwan case SCOTUS said “You two work it out between you, we’re not mixing in”.

Lucifer Morningstar in reply to SHV. | March 4, 2025 at 9:55 am

Well the, if that’s the case the the Republican controlled House and Senate should pass legislation that repeals those clauses and restrictions on Presidential authority and give Trump the right to unilaterally withdraw from NATO if he determines that is the correct course of action that is needed.

Trump will force an end. Zelenskyy is a fool and hurting his country. There are now calls for his impeachment. Perhaps well-deserved. Maybe he’s like Bidenites and totally corrupt. Where did the money go?

In any event, every will complain and call all sorts of names, but in retrospect it will be seen as an act of statesmanship to end a useless and unnesessary war. A gravy train for some as well.

Putin is not off the hook either. Trump will take his revenue away once Ukraine is not the focus.

Absurd that so many are so addicted to ideology that it gets in the way of morals and logic.

Time for him to move on and let the world get on with doing what it needs to do.

RepublicanRJL | March 4, 2025 at 6:05 am

Laura Ingraham had an interesting story last night where the US stood by as Russia took over several countries.

Why? Because it wasn’t our war to win.

Comrade Zelenskyy doesn’t want peace. He wants the US to continue funding Ukraine so he can win back the lost lands to Russia.

Cut him off completely. Trump choke holds are determinant.

smalltownoklahoman | March 4, 2025 at 7:29 am

I’ll take boring any day of the week over not having to live in constant fear of my life! And I’m sure a lot of Ukranians, Russians, and others feel the same way. And an alternative: Peace means having to find other ways to make money besides risking the lives of millions. It means compromise, respecting promises, and not always getting what you want in exchange for getting along with your neighbors. Small wonder why some pushing this war don’t want that.

He’s going to hold up military aid unless Zelensky digs up dirt on Hunter Biden…Oh wit….he already did that. LAFFRIOT
